~Education is Key~
-----------
Welcome to MASpets! A channel dedicated to providing high quality information about exotic, alternative, and unique pets, as well as traditional ones. This channel supports the freedom of pet owners to care for the species of their choice as long as that animal has been shown to thrive in human care under the right conditions. We strongly believe that facts and education, not admonition, is the best policy for encouraging potential pet keepers to choose the best pet for their living situation. We believe there is no such thing as a ‘good pet’, and do not promote any particular species as pets, however we understand that the desire of some to own something different is essential to their expression and existence as an individual. Whether you are considering a pet, or are just interested in the subject, this channel invites you to become informed about the exciting world of animal diversity.
There are hundreds of species of exotic pets! Some examples include: fennec fox, porcupine, serval, wallaby, boa constrictor, rainbow crab, bush baby, zebra, squirrels, ostrich, kinkajou, macaws, springhare, lemur, leopard gecko, tarantula, capybara, sloth, owl, cockatoo, muntjac deer, lion, short-tailed opossum, raccoon, scorpion, green iguana, and more.
Domesticated exotic pets include domestic rats, hamster, gerbil, goldfish, guinea fowl, Bengal cat, peacock, fainting goats, and sugar gliders.
We post introductory videos to animals that can be kept as pets, care tips, address controversies, legal issues, and more. Please see the posted links for more information about this subject!

Why do they not simply let the Bobcat run free in the woods of Kentucky since he is native to the region? No reason to kill him at all.

Unfortunately because he is tame it could land him in trouble. He could scare someone and get shot for example. He also may lack some of the skills he needs to survive. It is a sad situation.

For context the boa was not owned by the man who owned the pythons. The pythons got transferred to another facility which was owned by someone else who is the actual owner of the boa.

Non-humans below the level of birds are not known to have a sense of self or a significant enotional repertoire, and therefore cannot offer the kind of interactions we associate with "pets". Their behaviors are almost exclusively instinctive, making them dangerous when hungry or when they feel threatened ,(their emotional repertoire is mostly just hunger, fear, and lethargy). It is hard to justify treating them as pets when they are basically mindless predators. The late, desperately unfortunate Terri Schiavo, whose cerebral cortex atrophed completely after she suffered a heart attack, appeared at first sight still to be functional because she smiled, moved around, and performed other "normal-looking" actions. But she wasn't. She was gone. Her "hardware" and some of her "firmware" still functioned, but the "software" that had made her "Terri Schiavo" was gone. Her eyes sent images to her her brain, but she was functionally blind because the part of her brain that used to process visual information was gone. And the rest of her was in the same degraded condition. Snakes and similar low-order non-humans cannot be pets in any meaningful way because they haven't the mental tools to initiate or contribute to such a relationship. They are in a state similar to Terri's post-accident, but unlike Terri they were born that way and will never be able to be anything more; that is their evolutionary niche.

Bobcats are not domesticated. If you wanna change that then go write a paper have it peer reviewed and if your amazing logic is correct then an army of scientists will back you up. It is actually quite simple. In the mean time stop proclaiming it as fact.
@Maspets
@Maspets Год назад
Feel free to send over any scientist to try and refute it, because heaven knows you can't, and this is your last-ditch effort to try and win, by dictating the terms, telling me unless I write a peer-reviewed article and get support from an "army of scientists" I can't be right. They are domesticated, get the fuck over it and stop bothering me with your ignorance.

This “army of scientists” can’t even agree on a singular definition of “domesticated” Since you seem to like biology, here are more than a few studies that support claims made by MAS about captive exotic pets. In Russia there are many people to own Lynxes as pets. Nobody cares about it.
@fj852
@fj852 Год назад
Literally no one but you says all these animals are domesticated. I just know the difference between facts and misinformation.
@Maspets
@Maspets Год назад
@@fj852 I am aware and I will change that. It's really just semantics, you can try and create a definition to exclude bobcats from multi-generational breeding programs, but you will be removing other animals that just _seem_ domesticated with them, possibly including dogs and cats. Their irrationality doesn't have any effect on the truth. Their and your ignorance is part of the reason exotic pets are being killed for no reason.
