Admittedly I avoid them because I'm still playing thru thief 1, and I generally don't watch ciivie videos on things I intend to play and haven't finished first.
Man, Garrett's voice actor is one of the best. Conveying his total apathy to the whole situation besides getting paid without seeming disinterested in the script is a tightrope he walks incredibly well.
And then doing a 180 and sounding genuinely concerned when he find Lotus. Man, what a performance. Also, good on the writers to just let the silence hang if you mercy kill Lotus. No, "They're gonna pay," or "I'll avenge you," just silence.
I love that the Pitch Black in this Petty Thief allows for Dancers to a Discordant System within corridors of Camelions.! (Its hard to make a good joke but i tried!)
The thing I appreciate about Civvie is that you can feel his love for this franchise. The fact that he laments the low viewcounts for the videos, yet continues to showcase the games regardless because he clearly enjoys playing and wants us to share in that is a massive plus in my eyes. Sometimes, despite the fact a lot of creators have to play the algorithm, I believe there are times when you have to say "fuck the algorithm" and share a passion even if its not popular. It makes a channel feel genuine, rather than just feeding the amorphous content math monster for the sake of views. Thanks Civvie. I know it must suck to see that dip in the analytics, but know that there are people that appreciate your passion for this cult franchise.
Fun fact about the Cavador mission is that he only starts his route once you read the scroll with the site order and the map. There's a perfect place to ambush him at the corridor between site one and site nine (right next to the exit), as you can make it dark and it's unpatrolled. Provided you don't disturb the level too much, you can just go there, then read the scrolls, grab some snacks and just wait for him to come to you. Alternatively you can just not read them at all and he will remain in site five, where you can also find the new scripture and Cavador's diary (a bonus objective).
My favourite thing about ambushing him in a completely dark place is that if you only take him out, his guards will just stop and stay there. IIRC if you try to start with his guards, he'll panic and run away.
@@zulubunsen9067 I had the exact opposite thing happen in my recent playthrough. Between I think Area 1 and 2, I took out Cavador's guards with gas arrows, completely forgetting he would run - but, he didn't. He just stood there until I ran up and knocked him out. Fine by me - an early, easy Cavador knockout is always welcome. I spent the rest of the hour and a half just playing around and fucking with the Mechanists, even finding Cavador's diary, which I had no clue was a secret mission until this playthrough.
Also, some of the most influential games ever made. Sadly, the most important lesson was missed. You don't have to crouch to sneak. God I hate that in every game it's in. Crouching to sneak is just stupid.
My partner Tin passed away over the weekend. Your channel was some of his favorite stuff to watch. We spent many long nights binging videos while laughing and joking with other friends. They wanted to make something someday, and be part of the retro shooter stuff that's been in it's new golden age. I'm sorry they'll never be part of that, but I wanted you to know how much your videos meant to them, what you inspired them to attempt, and how much they shaped someone who is no longer with us. Thanks Civvie.
the lost city is a curious place. miserable to visit, but the almost intact remains of a civilization that had a superior mastery of magic and technology sparks the imagination nonetheless. one wonders if the organization of the keepers can trace their history back to it, or what viktoria or her late master might have thought of them, or whether the master builder of the hammerites was a living personage in those days
I'm shocked this series never had any novels or short stories that expanded on the universe on Thief. You could do short stories of one off characters living their lives or expand on secondary characters.
The hammerites and the pagans were always interesting to me. I can't decide which one I liked dealing with more in these games but I do agree that a little one-off thing related to the games world would be cool.
But if she did cut the joke... how would we know? What if she cut the actual joke and just moved the comment to a different part of the video? Thus is the terrifying power of the editor.
These videos are way better than I ever expect, it's like kicking back with an old buddy while he tells you a meandering walkthru of a game he's replaying.
I never understand why this series doesn’t perform. I love it. It’s so relaxing to watch and has such weird crap that it’s as enjoyable as any other video on this channel. Keep it up Civvie, I cheer every time a new thief episode drops
Rude. There's so so many good civvie videos. These are just episodes of average quality. Don't be a gracist... A game racisist... A judgy judgy bad man.
It's what got me to start watching Civvie. I grew up with the Thief games, and it's nice to see someone who likes the Metal Age (and dislikes Thief 1's zombie bullshit) as much as I do.
I remember playing this game for the first time when I was like 14 and being over the damn moon that the steampunk fantasy of this universe was able to support a Nautilus
I'm not a huge thief fan but hearing Civvie dissect the levels and characters in that voice only a annoyed bio-weapon scarred military veteran can project makes me happy.
Really hope you continue this series with the third entry, I get it's considered the worst -of the classic games-, but still, I think it's a nice game that deserves a chance.
TDS is only considered "bad" when compared with TDP and TMA, but that's because those are masterpieces. It's a great example of the Oblivion effect (from when Oblivion came out and was considered to be a terrible game solely because it was compared to its better predecessor, Morrowind) It's a great game that suffered from being given humongous shoes to fill
I love this series so so much. Thief is such a good example of the incredible talent and attention to detail in older games, while also clearly juxtaposing the quirks and flaws.
I absolutely love the petty thief series and was so happy to see you bring it back. Shame others dont like them as much. Or perhaps its some weird youtube thing and going out to recommendations?
Civvie!!, There's nothing more engaging and interesting in this entire platform than your channel, love the commentary, the editing, the lore. Hope you get the algorithm presence you deserve bro!!!
That is a really long Mark Hamill section xD Chariot of a sad dog, sounds like a band name 10:15 Noooo, now we won't know what they want to say Finally we're in the endgame and Karras gonna get what he deserved!!
Damn, the lost city level sure did suck! It'd be a shame if the next level were even more confusing and obtuse to complete, or a repeat of other content. That sure would be silly.
I cackled like a madman at 5:58 . Amazing. I'm glad you've done this series because I sorta bounced off the Thief games but I just love all the lore and worldbuilding and atmosphere they have that you've been able to show off.
I'm currently in the middle of finals, so thanks for this procrastination masterpiece. Real talk though, thank you for all the effort you put in these videos Civvie.
i find it great that civvie takes the time and effort of doing something he knows ain't gonna bring him views but still does it because he wants to. a true artist.
The petty thief series is one of my favorite to sleep to, the darkness and less intense noises of a sneaky game make it so calming. I would say spooky but there's only so much 2 poly zombies can really do
Oh yes be this a glorious day... my Civvie watching slippers and robe were prepped for this like a week ago..... I needed a nice relaxing Sunday morning... thank you
