The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Thomas Hood.Thomas Petula is still alive and well. She recently appeared on BBC 1's the One Show saying she is about to reprise her role of The Bird Woman in the stage version of Mary Poppins. She as also recently recorded a duet with John Williams Syndicate called New Flag. So she IS TRULY one of the great ones.

Petula Clark in SENSATIONAL SULTRY MOOD. Here with a distinctive recreation of a absolute Beatles classic. Petula also makes her very own version an absolute classic. Incredible vocals that are pinpoint accurate and a unique take on a much loved song. I LOVE THIS VERSION and I LOVE PETULA CLARK TOO.

The song, Fool On the Hill first came out in 1967 by the Beatles. During the summer of 1968, Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66 released their version of it. We can only guess that Petula Clark worked on the song likely at some point in 1969. If you look under the Ed Sullivan heading, it will tell you that she sang this song on his show on November 2, 1969.

Billy Martin: When Petula Clark does a cover version of a song she very much likes to put her own spin on it. This is EXACTLY what she as done here. Being a very accomplished songwriter herself she is just showing her audience how she would have written this classic song. very, VERY different from The Beatles original yet still a very CAPTIVATING and Wonderful rendition. You may not like it(and it most certainly is anything but ****as you so very wrongly say) but I think it is a INCREDIBLE version.

Saw Petula sing this live at the Albert Hall London in 1969 a few days before this performance and it was electrifying..Petula is a song stylist who often puts her own interpretation to songs ..of course Paul’s version is great but I love Petula’s version too of many Beatles songs ,and she was the first to cover Please Please me in French when it first came out .
@darrenplumpton9737

Christopher Alonge: PETULA obviously likes this Beatles classic and decided to put a alternative spin on it. I think she did a GREAT job of doing so. It is always nice to have a different interpretation on any song.
