The history hasn't been updated to include the documented issues with disintegrating cambelts. The words genius and puretech are not compatible unless said genius is the same one who is now tasked with re-engineering the engine to use a cam chain. A good engine with a catastrophic design flaw.

Cambelt was a huge mistake. The modern engine should have chain. That is my only reason for not to buy one of this cars.

@@MrRoad007 You obviously have not heard of their prince engine 1.6 THP with a single timing chain. I though it was a permanent thing to have in an engine but god was I wrong. The whole assembly was replaced on mine 3 times under warranty as it kept going out of order once a year or so. The tensioner failed in about 20k km. Total crap design in collaboration with BMW.

@@Renuars Same shit with VAG time chains and Mercedes chains. It is not really anyway bulletproof and can also be done wrong. Solution is always to buy toyota, but they are so boring!

@@edn5170 Accurate observation about Toyota. Ive had two Mercedes cars. The chain was not a problem on either of them.

Wish the 130 hp version was fitted to the Peugeot 108 / Citroen C1 / Toyota Aygo.

are you creasy?! the 130 was only installed on the 308 and the 208II, 108 had first a Toyota 1.0L 68hp engine , and latest 108's have 72hp , never a more powerfull engine...

@@leneanderthalien Was referring to the city car trio’s lack of a potent engine to rival the VW Up GTi and Renault Twingo GT as the 130 is also a 3-cylinder, yet the original trio featured a large 1.4 4-cylinder diesel in the engine bay though concede 100-115 hp would have been reasonable roughly similar to the recent 1KR-VET or the supercharger kits for the 1KR-FE in the event the 130 engine cannot fit into the city car trio’s engine bay.

That said the EB / Not PureTech has come a long way in reaching 155 hp since then, yet the need for hot pocket rockets still stands.

But the THP150 in the 308 has cam chain right? I found one but its venting smoke from oil filler cap hole when its warm and i have stopped the engine. White/blue not sure smoke slovly rising. Feels like either turbo leaks exhaust gas into inlet air OR worse the rings are busted right?

The puretech 1.2, big timing belt faults even in the new version, risk of broken plugs, gasoline in the oil, and oil consumption. This is for the 2020 engine I own. Normal consumption 8L and heavy feet 10L and vibration logical engine 3 cylinders! Conclusion NON RELIABLE ENGINE!!!

I've had one for over 4 years. The 130HP version. Done almost 70k km. Not a single complaint. Not even oil loss. At worst 0.5l needs to be added between oil changes. 15k interval. And not every time so far. Had no clue people were having these terrible problems that I learn about now.

Terrible engine suffers timing belt failures carbon build up due to poor direct injection which will throw up your engine management light up and go into limp home mode AVOID
