Excellent work, thank you for sharing. I'm recovering one Peugeot 106 myself your videos as been quite a good help. Specially because I don't have any technical books about it. 😊 Word of advice, when messing up with the balljoint, remove wishbone first it's so much easier! 😆
Thanks, the best source for technical information is the haynes manual, they can be picked up fairly cheaply and will cover everything right up to a full engine rebuild. As for removing the wishbone, that does sound like a good idea thanks.
You didn't show separating the hub and strut carrier from the drive shaft or bottom ball joint on the wishbone. Also on re-assembly why not attach bottom ball joint on new wishbone to the hub carrier first before attaching to the chassis?
Congratulations, i hope you enjoy the saxo. They are brillant wee cars to drive and a lot more simple and enjoyable to work on compared to more modern cars.
Thank you, Switched cars from an old VW passat '98 which has 4 arms, to my "newer" peugeot 307sw, which also only has 1 + wishbone that needs replacing ;)
***** Yes the old B5 passat has a few too many bushes and joints for its own good, a real headache to work on, the 406 and 307 just uses a simple mcpherson strut arrangement which does the job just just as well.
Hi, as always thanks a lot for your helpful videos! I am having a problem on my Saxo 1.4 with rubber cover of the ball joint. The outer side (wheel side) clip on the rubber cover was gone, and so I installed a new one, but it keeps pulling off from time to time. This is annoying, and I am worrying about condition of the ball joint (I can not hear anything wrong from it yet). Additionally, inner eds of the rubber covers on both sides got broken so it is not clipped to the drive shaft anymore, but they seem to stay in place anyways. Would you recommend to dismount drive shafts and replace the rubbers or keep using it until something wrong can be heard from the joints, and then replace the whole joints as the car is from 2001?
Hello Friend nice video there. So i have 106 XSI model and with mechanic we tried to remove front suspension shock but we couldn't managed to separate cv joint from wheel hub. Probably it was rusted. Mechanic hit 20 times to the axel of the CV joint but without any success. Is there any way to remove shock?
Excelent..! thank you so much.! I have a Saxo 1.1 and love "him"..please could you tell me what is the liquid which appear when u are starting to put the lower balljoint?..only curiosity..And thank you so much again.!
The liquid is the gearbox oil coming out, when i moved the hub it pulled on the driveshaft letting the oil pour out, it was a bit of an accident as i didn't expect it to happen, so a bit of a mess was left on the ground, its a good idea just to put a drain pan under the driveshafts just incase they pull out.
You could get around it but the driveshaft is then likely to come out of the gearbox (it can still do it even if unbolted but its easier to avoid if done) it just seems easier to undo the driveshaft nut and release it from the hub, for the amont of extra time it takes it will make up for it with less hassle
Hi, how do you remove the front strut from the wheel hub because i dont see a bolt or somthing, i have 3 wheel bolt's instate of 4 (sorry for my bad typing i'm ducth) i hope you got the answer for me!
Hi, the back of the hub has a bolt that clamps it around the strut. Undo the bolt and use a spreader tool or chisel to widen the area of the hub clamping to the strut, the hub and strut should then separate from each other although WD40 and some persuasion with a hammer may be required.
I'm jealous of your anti roll bar. My 106 has none and it rolls on the slightest bend. I know there are a lot of different suspension variants for the 106 but does anyone know if bolting on this small type anti-roll-bar is worth the trouble?
I didnt know there was a more basic suspension than this 1.1 independance had although looking at it now it has the more luxurious 4 stud wheels, presumably your car is a 3 stud one without the anti roll bar? I know from coversations back in the day with friends who drove 106's and Saxos that a 3 to 4 stud conversion was possible, typically done to add different alloy wheels. I would recommend asking on the Peugeot enthusiasts page on facebook or the citroen equiviant, there will be quite a lot more 106 owners on there who may be able to advise on what exaclty is involved. If it is possible to make a 3 Stud citroen AX into a Saxo VTS based sleeper it should be possible to add a roll bar.
yes there are, inherited from the 205 i think. Mine is a 1.1 accent, indeed with 3 studs but it has the same control-arm/wishbone as yours but without the ARB mounting holes. I know there are ones with different wishbone arms and at least 3 types of anti roll bars. Some with drop links as well. I think i'm going to install this simple type anti roll bar out of curiosity and see how it will effect the ride.
Hey, do you know if a Strut from a 106 Diesel will fit on a 1.1 independence? Trying to find the easiest/cheapest way to raise front suspension on my 106 off road project :)
Unfortunately i dont, peugeot now charge for servicebox access so i cant check part numbers. Best asing on one of the facebook groups for the 106/saxo or peugeots in general someone on there may be more familiar with parts compatibility of these cars.
Hi, I have a peugeot 106 of 1993. Over the years the steering wheel became harder to turn and now i can barely turn it. Can those ball joints cause this or is it something else ? A mechanic will charge much for this job ?
Ah if it had power steering possibly the pump has failed Ball joints when they fail will create "free play" in the steering which makes the steering feel loose and imprecise. If your wheels have low air pressure it can make them seem harder to turn, i remember on my mums old 1.5 diesel 106 that made a difference to how easy it was to steer. Other than that possibly if the steering rack gatiers have perished road dirt has got into the steering rack and caused it to bind and become hard to steer, the universal joints for the steering may have also become stiff over the years and may need lubricated.
Hi there, this is the set of sump keys that i use. Laser 1580 Drain Plug Key Set 5pc www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003AN3S12/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MDBWVP6762SZ1GZZ8CPH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 I know its the square one as i have a 106 in at the minute having its clutch changed.
@@peugeotCitroen2CV thanks bud i removed both today , it was a 8mm square bit , the same as my oil sump plug, i did a drive shaft passenger side ,also iv got a dipstick end stuck in the dipstick tube couldnt push it through so i removed sump and pushed up and there was 3 dipstick ends stuck in tube, now im scraping old gasket off sump and refitting but when i was removing sump bolt 2 snapped , so scratching my head abit now
@@peugeotCitroen2CV this will make you laugh , when I was removing the sump bolts I removed in a Chris cross pattern they were all long bolts then I unscrewed one it was rusted and a quarter of the size of the others and cracked and jagged at the end , so I swore chucked the bolt in the bucket thinking it had snapped unscrewed a few more long bolts then another quarter size snapped , swore again chucked in bucket got a torch looked in the thread holes in the sump could see what looked like the rest of the bolt in there , so I started scratching my head thinking how am I too remove the bolts etc deep in the hole , started looking for screw extractors and a can of petrol to set fire to the car if I can’t remove 😂 but then when I was buying a gasket for the sump I came across the workshop drawing of the sump and it does actually have 2 small sump bolts 😂😂 so I got the bolts out of the bucket and the ends were covered in hardened gasket sealant which made them look snapped or Broken 😂 so I was very relieved ,sump went back on nice aswell with new gasket 👍
