So, a Peugeot 108 instead a of a Nissan GT-R?
Why not? Let's look a the humble Peugeot 108 and give it a little bit of a review.
While this may seem like the ideal car for an elderly person I will highlight how this car can appeal to young drivers or even sports car enthusiasts.

"It is more fun to drive a slow car fast, than it is to drive a fast car slowly" I find your car reviews very entertaining, keep them coming! I draily a slow vehicle myself, and love it. 230hp, 2400kg, ancient and sloppy automatic, rear wheel drive, high center of gravity. It is momentum based motoring at its best.

My mom is exactly like yours: only buys new cars, drives less than 10 km per week, and is afraid of buying used.

Everyone should have a car like this. No worries about it being scratched etc, you just drive it from A to B in town and if something breaks it is mostly cheap to fix.

My mom has a C1 from 2013 it’s same as the 108 Mario’s mom has. It works like a dream and is quite a fun little car with the paddles/engine sound.we can now say we have a c1 and a corvette C3.

Same feeling. I have nice E39 with beige interior in good shape and sometimes I look for new car, or not feel grateful enough. But then I drive my brothers Dacia (bad looks, not good drive comfort, AC not cold enough, shitty audio) or my ex Citroen C4 (with many technical issue, broken AC, you have to hold steering wheel because car going to side) and go back to my car and feel like winning jackpot :D

Those are great cars! At least the first generation C1 / 107 / Aygo have Daihatsu engines. I had an first gen Aygo Automatic. Runs good its cheap and has a nice 3 banger sound.

@@swisscarguy I have the 107 petrol.It is quite dependable and little issues.Last week i drived it Bergen Trondheim in Norway.Mountains and stuff 1200 km round trip.Back it was wery windy over Dovrefjell, a long mountain pass, then it shaked a little bit but no problem. The engine last 500 000 km if oil changes, it,s timing chain and a Daihatus engine.

Well I own the c1 twin of the bunch. I do achive 5l/100km fuel consumption in real life, and in the 2 months I own it we have travelled about 4500 km so yes it is a great car in my book.

I have a 69hp Ford Fiesta. Steering wheel included by default. I always pretend to be Swiss on the motorway and holding tight on 110-120 kmh because around 130 it’s like an old Fiat 500, noisy and unsafe. Lack of air conditioning is killer nowadays.

Timing chain or belt?

Chain. The engine-out belt changes on my mom's previous car made her a bit apprehensive about the Issue.

One of these c1's, aygo's, 107's or a basic 1.2 fiat 500 what would you prefer I wonder?
@swisscarguy
@swisscarguy 2 года назад
The Fiat is 'more' car in the sense that it feels a bit more premium and slightly less built down to a price. The Fiat is also more stylish (in my opinion). Both are not going to wow you with performance. The Fiat has a nicer feeling manual gearbox and the single clutch autos in both cars are equally meh. The Fiat has a nicer sounding engine and is slightly more comfortable for longer distances (ride and noise). The triplets are more practical with their rear doors. Basically go for the 500 if looks are important. Otherwise, the triplets are the more pragmatic choice. A Panda would be even better in that regard as it is more spacious than either but still shares the drive train and underpinnings with the 500. The 1.2 8v FIRE engine is a work horse and pretty much bullet-proof. As it's a non-interference engine even a snapped timing belt would not be more than a nuisance (as the car would not be driveable until replaced, but no bent valves that require a top-end rebuild). The 0.9 TwinAir is certainly a more delicate engine (the cam phaser is very oil-sensitive) and the 1.4 16v will be somewhat more engaging to drive (even though timing belt changes should be done in time as *that* is an interference engine). Very torn, either are good choices for basic transportation. But in the end personally I would go for the 500. if you're buying used, just go for the car which is the better deal if you have no preferences. And most important: *drive the cars!* Just because a car might seem clearly better on paper does not mean that it will feel that way in real life. Maybe you don't fit properly inside or have trouble getting in/out (I often bang my head on some cars). And maybe one car just feels better and more special to you. After all, even economy cars are large purchases and the heart plays its role in the decision process.

@@swisscarguy actually one more question if you're free to answer. I actually have access to a 2006 base spec panda and I quit like it apart from the rolling suspension on faster corners. Does the 500 1.4 or 1.2sport have the same wobbly suspension or is it different and hopefully abit tighter? That's the only thing I don't particularly like on my dad's panda. That and it being very bland inside but it's a base spec so to be expected. I've had to give up using my 1993 mk1 mx5 which I've owned for 19yrs because of the new ULEZ rules in London unfortunately so I quite fancy something like a small (hopefully fun) city car.
@swisscarguy
@swisscarguy 2 года назад
@@danielm6381 The 500 1.4 Sport is pretty decent in that regard and I suspect the Panda Sport might be too. The triplets are very wobbly, pretty much the same as the base Panda and 500. Don't the ULEZ rules make exceptions for classic cars? Your MX-5 surely has been around long enough to qualify as a classic car?
@danielm6381
@danielm6381 2 года назад
@@swisscarguy cheers for that I'll look into getting the 1.4 then if it handles flatter. ULEZ has killed all the modern classics in London as it's not technically a classic in the UK until it's 40yrs old so all those great 80's and 90's cars have just disappeared out of town like mine.

184cm. I reckon there is enough headroom that you would have more space than in the 108 than in either the GT-R pr the Lexus.
