Peugeots have always been renowned for their good handling and the 308 is no exception. It's good to drive and rides well, while the big boot and top quality interior give it the edge over rivals.
There's plenty of safety equipment in the 308 and its high-class interior makes it feel like a more expensive car. The diesel engines are strong and at speed the Peugeot is very refined, so it's a great motorway companion. The 308 is let down by the fact that it's very similar to the 307 that preceded it, so it's cabhin seems a little old fashioned and doesn't feel like an up-to-date car. Meanwhile, the 308 SW has a better interior, but this car's trump card is its huge amount of space inside. The 308 SW is also available with an extra pair of seats in the back, which makes it massively practical and attractive if you have a large family.

I have a black 308 1.6 HDi S & it's a great car. Very good driver, nippy around town & on the motorway. Have had very little go wrong with it other than general maintenance. I love mine.

I have 308 1,6 HDI, and i have driven 257 000km with it. Really good car, economical, fast, easy ti handle and maintaine, bretty also, because my car has alloy wheels, tinted windows and roof spoiler, I had few problems with FAP filter and brakes when car was just bought, but they went under warrat. I live on country where we have lots of snow and cold in winter (like -35 in two months last year), No problems with starting and driving through snow.

People say it's an unreliable car. Arnt all cars unreliable, people treat cars like kitchen white goods or gadgets. Expect it to work with no maintenance or care through many conditions for many miles over the years. Then ignore any weird noises, movement or rattling, then get shocked when it fails an MOT or you break down.. If the masses today drove 1960's cars you'd all be parked up. Yes due to mass manufacturing, you get good and bad off the production line. But it's a machine you have to maintain it and if you don't know then learn, stop being soft, saves you a lot in garage fees, as that's most of your bill.

the visibility in the back isn't better in any hatchback, this is the structure. By checking the legroom please slide the front seat in a few positions. Seems like the dashboard is far away in the front so you could move the seat forward a little bit

All that being said; the Peugeot 308 is a fantastic car; it effortlessly climbs hills, has no problem fitting in the cramped down-town Amman area, is a joy on the freeway up North or down South, and the engine sounds fantastic. It also has generous boot space for a hatch; and the a/c works very well. I do not think rear-room is problematic (my seating position actually leaves me (I'm 177cm) with sufficient space for a melon between my knees & the seat in front.

I know a lad with a foresty spec one, he uses it to tow felled trees in his forestry and it never gave trouble. That is 100% truth

About to buy a 308 HDI 135 Sport.. I'm getting it as a daily driver as I have a Mk2 Focus RS for sunny weekends. It comes fully specked, cruise control etc, it has fsh, 1 owner, and all the original handbooks including fully stamped service book. Timing belt and water pump have recently been changed and it's done 63,000 miles.. it looks good in shark grey. It's a daily, so it will be all I need.

Nice! I own a Peugeot 308 in Brazil! I bought it recently, I´ve been with it for about 3 months. Nice car and nice looks! And honestly, the one sold in Brazil and Argentina, looks nicer than the one in Europe, with the Lion sticked directly tol the hood.

I love this car: I rent it occasionally here in Jordan, & I must say, WELL DONE PEUGEOT! It's fun to drive, and with 156hp of PRINCE you feel like a racer: even the BMWs and Mercedes' cannot keep up and it's massively practical. It takes some getting used to but its speed is such that I love every minute of driving it. As for being stiff (in suspension) I say, 'so what?' I actually like a bit of bump!

The turning signal sound of the Peugeot 308 I does divide a lot of opinions. Some like it, some don't. But at least that's the feature in this car that the driver (and possibly passengers too) pay the most attention to. 😉

Yeah well, exciting cars... we all have dreams, right? I got my new 308 in May and am really happy with it. It's safe, comfortable, I don't think it's ugly and what's more, it's all paid for. Which is also exciting. :)

How does this car compare with the Citroen C4 mk2? I have the 308 with the 2.0 hdi engine, and its perfect, everything I want in a car. Sound insulation is just incredible, the suspension is very comfortable, idk why they say its firm. I dont get tired on longer trips at all. Anyway, we need a second car in my family, and I am in a dilema, get another 308, or go with the C4 mk2? Any suggestions?

Agree, and even the renowed german automobile magazine Auto strassen verkher, when they tested it against the Golf a few issues back, rated it just a few points behind the Golf, virtually almost as good as the Golf they said, and the German auto press love the Golf, they do not let many cars come close, they allowed the 308 to... Cheers.

Just sold my one of these. Sad, it was a great car. Only sold as it was bottom spec and I really wanted cruise control. Was also just coming up to 50k miles.

Lol, he really doesn't like this car. Plus he is "economical" with the truth. I'm 6'4" (a lot taller than Matt), and can fit really comfortably in the back, and still manage to put a beachball between my knees and the seat in front.

I drove Peugeot 308 with a 1600cc petrol turbo (2011) with 156hp. Here in Amman, Jordan (which is hilly) it is useful and especially in our cramped streets (cramped w/a lot of cars parking but otherwise wider than UK roads) plus it is sporty. However, where I come from hatch-backs are not desirable; and Peugeot is viewed as an odd car (it depreciates quickly). Also, at 21,500 Dinars (about 20,000 GBP) for a country with about 1/5 the income of the UK, forget it.

had this as a hire car recently. Agree about distant dashboard but don't agree with body control. I am not sure it isn't one of the softest in the class I have driven.

Have my 308 Access 1.4 for 2 years now, good first car but i think the back is roomy enough. So far its reliable, handles good and has good sound insulation.

We used to have peugeots in the states until they pulled out like in the 70s or 80s. I think the 505, one of their last models here, is a particularly good looking car from that time. And everyone here thinks French cars are crap, which they kinda are, but I think some have really good designs. Especially the new citroen ds3 racing!

update bought mine now great to drive i prefer driving it in flappy paddle mode at town speeds as autobox can be a bit jerky till you reach higher speeds. fuel economy in the 1.6 diesel is incredible though cheap road tax too my only real gripe is not enough tilt for the headrest you find yourself leaning back a long way other wise great car will update this as i go along and let you know how reliable it is

@@ajayLDN yes only hit one minor snag really slight knock in suspension but ill get it sorted its still driveable and im sure it wont be too expensive will update when fixed

Although the suspension is stiff and firm; I would not say it's too bad; not as 'jarring' as a Honda Civic (Asian edition) and certainly the Peugeot has better acceleration and is funner to drive. The Civic by contrast is more of a 'sporty every-day car' whereas the 308 is a 'fun-drive' vehicle. I rented one (silver) filled it up with 95 Oct petrol & BROOOOOOOOOOM it was the best ride ever!

true.. back then cars were made to last a lifetime, not 10 years (at best).. i can't wait to finish assembling the engine, then fix the body, it's gonna be a nightmare.. but in the end worth it.. maybe i'll even put some videos on youtube!! :)

This car has maybe the best steering feel in it's class today? The new, on the other hand, Golf was a disappointment also in that respect (had a long test drive last weekend). :( PS. I hate when marketing people get motor journalists crazy over something that isn't any good only because it is german. :(

i got a 308 cc and i say the same thing, u need to lean to reach the radio, even tho after you scoop up ur seat, Peugeot should have done better with that.

I have this car & it's good, I can reach the controls such as the heating and ventilation system easily, the geabox even though it can be a little stiff is easy to reach. The stereo is in reach but why did he not mention that there is stereo controls behind the steering wheel. It's spacious in the back as well. Agree that the back panels are too thick. It also has one of the best indicator sounds too, sounds like an 80s computer game when you turn :0)

Beware .... the valves go on this due to a design fault and its a very big bill! This then doubles again as soon after fuel pump needs replacing as a result. Peugeot knows its a design fault but refuses to stand by the customer, even though 3 cars plus in 12 years, low km's and always serviced at one of their dealers.

Indeed. 308 is in so called compact class of Citroen C4, Renault Megane, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Fiat Bravo, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Lancia Delta, Opel Astra, BMW 1 Series, new Mercedes A Class, Toyota Auris, Subaru Impreza, Audi A3, VW Golf,... 207 is gone now and`s been replaced with new 208 which is in subcompact class of Citroen DS3, Citroen C3, Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta, Alfa Romeo MiTo, Mini, Opel Corsa, Mazda 2, Fiat Punto, Audi A1, VW Polo,...

I agree, and that is why I never buy a Peugeot on its first or second model year. I am considering getting the 308 (2011) here in Jordan, partially as the price drops quickly if unsold, mainly because the 2008 and 2009 models are a lot of maintenance bugs within 3-5 years. To be fair however, it's much better than the 307 or early 206s and 207s, and it's fun to drive. Another issue is that we get the 156 hp Prince engine, versus 140 hp for pre-2010 editions.

This 308 is built on the older 307 floor plan & is a similar size to the older 307.

Amit Omer no car will have an aux as old as this but it's very simple and cheap to have a stereo with and aux fitted by local garages etc.. mine cost me £40 and £20 to install

I was actually really liking this car until Mat pointed out that you'll feel it in the steering wheel when you go over bumps. If you painted this car orange, it would like Speed Buggy from the front. (I mean that in a good way.)

I'm 6ft 5 and when the driver seat's set up for me in my 308 there is plenty of room for me in the back too! So I disagree with your moan about legroom..

@amaya8182 You're talking crap and lies, because every single thing you said is totally opposite. Engines are great in peugeot, and very smooth petrols. Even the diesels are one of the smoothest on the market today. Plastics inside the cabin are one of the best in class. You probably dont even have driving licence...
