Jump onboard as I have the chance to drive the Peugeot 406 Super Touring car from 1998 driven by Paul Radisch.
Special thanks go out to Colin the owner as well as the Superformance team.
Also a HUGE thank you to Michael from MW race & Rally for some of the footage as well as the brilliant pics from JEP photography as always.
Enjoy!

Would love to have an engineer do a detailed lengthy walkthrough on the design of one of these cars. Feels like anywhere you look is a piece of art and craftsmanship. Every fitting and all the hose routing. Where everything is and why. There are probably multiple iterations and years or decades of experience that led to those decisions. Race cars hold so many cool secrets and its rare to get to hear about it. Like, I find F1 cars fascinating but don't really care about the racing (at least these days.) The insane, exotic designs, materials and what not for everything is way more interesting.

Something I wondered when watching this video and the one about the Honda: why did these cars, which are obviously custom built racing machines, have super barebones carbon interiors, yet still come equiped with the full plastic dashboard you'd have in your road car? Surely must have something to do with marketing, right?

This ducting works remarkably well. The front has a huge high pressure area like all the cars. And sides have fast moving air pulling it very well out (you see there are also vent ribs at the bumper corners). Also this has downforce benefit aswell as air from engine compartment is not blown under the car but rather to the sides of the car

Heavy, turbo engine, wet sump, standardised suspension, hybrid too now -- you can find a few NGTC videos, there's one with Scarbs at West Surrey Racing. Most of the teams don't have fabricators anymore, as there isn't anything much to fabricate under standardised NGTC rules. The emphasis is just on tuning the shock absorbers and setting up the suspension geometry (it's still a little bit adjustable despite being standardised) now. TOCA bench flows the cylinder heads, so you get a boost level based on how much your cylinder head flows, so all the engines should perform about the same whether you have the category engine or your own engine. The body kits are matched in a wind tunnel to perform about the same too. The NGTC arrangement is definitely a million times better for privateers who don't have unlimited money, of course. Though TCR cars (also heavy) works pretty well too using BOP, despite needing to use the suspension pickup points & type from the road car, so those rules also work IMO. They are also wet sump IIRC.
@jakehillracing
@jakehillracing 2 месяца назад
Honestly no need. From a feeling point of view the current cars are heavy, turbo, less passion, less engineering and not as fun. The only reason our cars today are faster is they are over 100hp up, much wider tyre

I'm desperate to see some of these on track again, they're like motor racing royalty. I went to Donnington on Easter weekend as the headline race was supposed to feature some super tourers in the afternoon. We walked round the paddock during the day and spotted a Vectra in the back of a huge articulated trailer and a Mondeo on the back of a smaller trailer. The time for the race came and we waited trackside, the whole grid made its way past on the warm up lap... not a single super tourer to be seen 😢
@UPnDOWN
@UPnDOWN Месяц назад
Probably the best-looking SuperTourer of them all, if not the most competitive. Pretty sure the guys who built it got no help from Peugeot France, whose european campaigns were much more successful. Wonder which engine that is. Logic suggests it's an XU10 (iron block) but has a lot of XU9J4 bits on it (an 80s engine from a 405 Mi16, or Citroen BX 16v)
