@@chuckp413 PGT says 400ml around 4:10, and then around 5:30 says 400ml again as he is measuring out of a metric-graduated media bottle. The recipe is forgiving though, so it would probably still set up fine even if you're 20% too wet.

I just need to say thank you. I have been growing mushrooms for almost 20 years and agar has always been intimidating. I always saw it as the pinnacle of mycology, especially for a hobbyist. I figured that without a proper flow hood I shouldn't even bother. After watching this video I just successfully put my first spores and cloned flesh to agar and I couldn't be happier. All of your videos are primo but this one definitely gave me the confidence to do something I didn't think I was ready to do.

@mraBJJ33
@mraBJJ33 2 года назад
@@LustrousLiam the condensation forms on the lids of your agar cups because of the temperature difference between the hot liquid agar and the cool room air above it, so stacking the cups keeps hot liquid on top of the cup below it minimizing that temperature difference. The problem is when you stack your last agar cup on the top it will still form condensation on its lid, but if you put hot water into a cup to then stack on top of your stack it will work the same way, therefore all of your agar cups should get minimal condensation on their lids.

Video suggestion: I'm noticing ALOT of posts and questions on reddit and your discord about surface conditions (too dry, too wet, do I fan/mist more, less?, Is this cobweb or mycelium? etc. perhaps you could cover that more in depth and show different troubleshooting examples (ie. If your tub or fruits looks like this, do x to correct) it seems the standard 'fan and mist twice a day' we are all finding every where isn't quite addressing the concerns given the massive amount of new growers and the learning curve.

@@OcSongTheSoulSinger That's the glory of images, they are timeless. Reddit simply doesn't have the archival information that Shroomery does. Especially not dedicated albums with 1000s of pictures all relating to the one specific area of cultivation. Its not hard to cut through the noise and ancient posts, just filter them so you are only reading the contemporary stuff. Real time information is also reliant on the respondent actually being knowledgeable, archival threads with years of existing pools of knowledge almost act as a check & balance to incorrect info. I use Reddit more often, but when i was researching cultivation methodology etc i found Shroomery infinitely more useful & accurate.

The reason stacking the cups stops condensation is because you're keeping the lids warm. Condensation happens when hot water vapour meets a cold surface so it cools down and turns back to liquid water. If you keep the lids warm, there are no surfaces to condense the water vapour on 10/10 video btw

You could also add ground activated charcoal as dye. Thats normally used for legionella, but I Imagine the visibility of both mycelium and contamination would be great

I hope people understand how much of a service to humanity this video is and like and subscribe to his video and channel. Most other recipes floating around online claim you have to get barley extract and nutritional yeast, and those two ingredients are either a pain to find, or they are not cheap. Also it is a very genius idea to use these plastic salsa cups. You don't need the actual petri dishes. You can puncture those with a hot pointy object too, but these small cups are the easiest method.

I read from a chemistry major that agar can be sterilized in the absence of an auto clave/ PC if you boil in a covered pan for 5 mins, then place into glass jars that have been sterilized.

Great Video! Very clear and easy to understand for a lot! By the way I saw in you other video that you had APEs and I assume you got them through a swab, I was wondering on how your methods are for inoculating agar? Ive had a few grows up my sleeve but theyve always come from prints. I would also suggest a grow along/ grow log on APEs because i know they tend to be more tedious compared to other cubes. Anyway love the work and mush love!
