Unlike in a normal car, the sunroof wind deflector on the Phaeton isn't directly linked to the opening of sunroof. Instead, an electric motor operates the deflector. The result is the deflector varies its position depending on speed and size of sunroof opening.
From VW: "The electric glass sunroof features an integrated deflector that adjusts automatically depending on the size of the roof opening and the road speed, helping to reduce wind noise and draughts."
