I can't say much about this video here without spoiling the entire game but these final three tracks: Never Looking back, Test of Loyalty, and Phantom Liberty main theme left me GUTTED.

It sucks, in a beautiful way. In every ending for phantom liberty you lose someone. The 'boss' of every ending is a friend, and you lose them all in one way or another. No matter which path you choose or which you think is right, someone ends up burnt and it all feels incomplete. It's painful and beautiful and I love it for this reason

@@quindecim7507It's not about So Mi betraying V, it's a physical representation of these large corporations and governments changing your soul. It was obvious So Mi was hiding something and probably could save V by her mannerisms and how she talked to V in private. Myers and Reed moulded her to be this way, to betray and backstab as the FIA sees fit. It's the only thing she knows how to do to survive. It goes back to Johnny's entire reason he rebels against the corpos and the gov, they change your soul. It's why he's not mad at her betrayal and why he's supportive of you helping So Mi, and why he calls you Judas if you sell her out. If you help her Myers loses, and she is finally free of her "gilded cage". Her punishment for betraying V is just her having to live with the guilt. We know So Mi backstabbing her friends eats at her, she tells us that she constantly has nightmares about when she backstabs Reed. It's not about V's survival, V already died he ate Dex's lead. It's about not letting the corporations win

I was thinking of the end of Phantom Liberty for a week... I went through this exact thought process but ended up killing Reed. I was looking at his body for a good while before I started moving again. Then I kept delaying meeting Alex for the follow up mission for a long while, and waiting for word or any news from or about Song... 10/10 expansion. What an absolutely amazing experience. PS: I still think about it, and keep thinking about what Johnny said on that operating table when you get the face mod. Paraphrased but he was right, "neither of them are wrong, but it's up to us to decide who's right." Edited this comment a few times at this point, but I'd like to add one final thing: the best part about the end was how I ended up evaluating my own morality. Sure I had a vague sense of what it was, but there's never been a game where I was forced to choose between two characters I'd grown to love. Where the "final boss" was a friend. Where I inevitably had to choose which of those friends was "right." Again, what an absolutely amazing ending.

It's tough, genuinely.

Fearing that So Mi was indeed paranoid and being controlled by the Black Wall, I took the Reed path. In the end it forces you to make an even more bleak agonizing decision than the Songbird option -- probably the hardest vid game choice I've EVER had to make. It wrecked me. I just sat there, tears in my eyes,. Hollowed out. Empty. Like the expanse of desert we watch Reed disappear into in the final shot. But... the Reed path had shown me new info -- moving backstory for how Song had gotten to where she was: all her loss, her desperation, her regret, her sadness. So, I did something I rarely do in games like this, I immediately went back in and played through the Song ending -- committed now to saving her. Because in the end, the arc for V -- for my V at least -- is one of learning to value the impact you can make in people's lives. V doesn't need to be a Night City legend, they just need to be a hero to the people they care about. And while the results never yield a "happy" ending, at least V gives Song a chance -- and there's a warm flickering flame of hope in that amidst all the neon cast shadows. Thanks so much for your thoughtful passionate breakdown here. Your vids are treasures! (And spoiler alert: You do indeed find out if she survives on the moon.)

what was even harder to me was at the end to SPOILERS... ... kill your own brother in A Plague Tale: Requiem, that in principle already spoils the outcome in the title, but that was equally, if not more horrifying to me than pulling the plug on So-Mi, cause basically all games are about saving him in a way, So-Mi just for the DLc and even that just later in the storyline, at first your plot is to save the president lol. so you get not as invested. As some other commenter said, Nier Automata was also equally an emotional rollercoaster, Soma as a game, although you "just" kill robots or digitalized psyches as well.

The world of Cyberpunk 2077 is a dystopia for a reason. There are no heroes or happy ending, just victims and varying degrees of tragedy. In the end, everyone loses. Even if it is just their humanity. Meer survival of the churn of blood and chrome is the best outcome one can really hope for.

I'm surprised that the music wasn't as recognized at it should be. With PL bangers like Force Projection, Contra de la Luna, Gate K9 and even Idris Elba's Choke Hold are decent bangers. I had previously played through multiple V’s, males and females. So, I finished each ending differently. After contemplation, the only ‘good’ ending is ending Song Mi’s life when she begs, and go solo on Arasaka not dragging good people to their deaths. As Song Mi said, she never got a second chance and giving her to Myers would make her forever trapped in an endless cycle, a living Hell.

The last time a game hit me this hard was the original campaign. I think the way Cyberpunk 2077 uses first person really heightens the emotional connection so much, and I know the devs have talked about it some, but I don't think it gets enough praise. The game is just so damn emotionally immersive, and the characters are all so complex, and it all feels so intimate and close. I went with Songbird on my first playthrough of the expansion, and I still think it's the better choice. The other path (that I admittedly haven't played) expands on why this is, but to put it simply, choosing to betray Songbird might save V's life - but it almost certainly dooms hers, and potentially many others if the NUSA's back-room experiments with poking at the Blackwall go wrong. As the credits song titled after the expansion says over and over, "I'm just tired of looking the other way". I had the opportunity to potentially free someone from the seemingly inescapable hell that is Night City, and I took it, and the Songbird flew free, the smoke from the rocket's engines covering the corpse of Solomon Reed as I watched it rise into the heavens. She may not have deserved to be saved, but I still chose to save her. I don't know what that says about me, or about CDPR's writing, or about any of this, but I know what I did and I know I chose to stick with it.

Did most variations and will always pick to put her on that space ship and send her off. 0 regrets and I don't blame for lying. Especially at that point. I'd rather die than hand someone over to be a slave and lab rat to a bunch of nasty people and inhumane organizations. Reed chose to become the monster he is, and dragged others in that game too. Tried to be buddy with him initially, but the more you see, you realize what and who he is. Especially with seeing the major endings, he is pretty nasty. (as he also blames V for all his own personal failings and shifts all blame on you, even when you follow his plan and realistically go way beyond what would be reasonably expected from V. Which is just despicable behavior. Mayers is probably even worse.) Songbird was more the other direction, wasn't sure at all if I can trust her, so 1st time I stuck to the plan with Reed. (idea was to get her out Hansen's hands and then I can figure out the next step, help her etc.) The more you see of her story and character, you understand her. It's a good ending. The fact Alex makes it out alive and is chilling somewhere nice, in that ending, makes it an even easier choice. Both Song and Alex seemed to be doing better, so that's great. As V, you also have potentially other options. Wouldn't sacrifice my empathy and integrity by handing her off to be a lab rat. To people that don't care about her one bit, outside of that. Yes, Reed included. All talk and platitudes, 0 actions to show for it. Rather, the opposite. If I did that, I would be no better than them, seeing her as a tool rather than a person or a human being. (I do get the, highly ALLEGED, "cure" can be a strong motivator, maybe? But not that much) But yeah, Song and Reed were very, very well realized characters. How you hit a point where you really come to see all their layers. While initially I wasn't sure about them, if i find them interesting or well written. You really need to go to the end, and preferably do at least the 2 major different paths. Whole picture really rounds them up and makes it all work.

I started out wanting to help Songbird but slowly as time wore on, Reed convinced me. I didn't play a netrunner, more like a gunslinging merc. So when it came to crunch time, I went with Reed. Once it was all over I sat there and came to a conclusion. Songbird is a hypocrite. She admits to screwing over people and even screwed over me and it all fine, yet when I screw her over she has a hissy fit and uses a rouge AI to murder people. Even learning her backstory I knew she deserved pity but that doesn't excuse her for screwing over everyone. Despite others, I kept the medal, not as a source of accomplishment but to remind me that good intentions don't almost equate to good actions. Sometimes I need to do wrong to do right.

And that's the magic of the DLC. If you sided with So Mi, you would have seen a completely different side to Reed, the same way Reed's choice shows you a completely different side of her. Only after you play both sides you truly see what both characters are truly like, and come to find that Johnny's comment of "neither of them is wrong, but it's up to you to make one right" rings so true.

Helping her frees her from her "Guilded cage" she mentions she's in. Helping her makes Myers lose

Cyberpunk 2077 is the most influential game I’ve played in my life. The things I’ve experienced and done as V have had such a profound impact on me personally I can barely describe. It’s a game that dares one to feel such raw emotion in the face of such an overwhelming depressive world, and that juxtaposition of the small moments of heart, against the cold and soulless world of Night City makes them shine like the stars in the night sky making beauty in an otherwise empty world. It is not hyperbolic to say that Cyberpunk gave such a shift in perspective that it literally saved me from the self-destructive path I was on.

Firstly, I love how you put what we couldn't say out loud into this video, in your own words, so thank you for that. I betrayed So Mi in the stadium, choosing to wait for Reed, lost Alex in the process, and when all hell broke loose, I chose to give So Mi what she wanted, a relatively peaceful way out of the horrible life she endured for so long, and earned Reed's ire for it, though thankfully, he came to understand what she went through. I don't regret my ending, and the music that played during my final choice, when I bade So Mi farewell, will forever leave me with shivers. I am still surprised why Cyberpunk 2077 wasn't even nominated for best sound design at the TGA, but at least its community appreciate it for what it is, a diamond in the rough. Hats off to you, Projekt Red, this is is probably the most realistic story in a game that I've played, what with all its nuances and how our own choices affect how the story goes for us.

I love your analysis, you've understood everything and put into words what I'm feeling. I loved Cyberpunk as soon as it came out. It's always been an emotionally poignant game for me. Mature, cruel, dark but also with a lot of good writing and gameplay (even more so today) that's really enjoyable and edgy. With the DLC, they've done even better. In no other game are the NPCs able to convey such emotions to me as in Cyberpunk. You can feel human emotions through the pixels of the screen, and yet it's only a game, but the music brings it all to life. Right from the start, and my boyfriend noticed it because when I play Cyberpunk, I shake my head and sway during moments of action. I let him listen through my headphones to the atmosphere, and he understood why. It's a huge plus for immersion, whether it's the sad music or the badass music that makes you feel like Johnny Wick or Neo in The Matrix as you pirate, slow down time and make mega jumps. What a game. The problem is that the games seem bland after such a deluge of emotion and quality. And I agree that you can feel the developers' love for what they've accomplished. They released the game too early but never let up. This DLC is a love letter ❤

In hindsight, I learned a surprising amount about my thought process from the choice i made. It was easy, to me. All the red flags were there for everyone, sure, but a few notable ones were dealbreakers. Honestly i made the choice when Reed and Alex killed the netrunners. And it wasn't the action that was the final straw, it was that they didn't tell or even hint to me in advance. In the car, when you hijack it, you end up digitally fighting them for control of the vehicle, but at the same time having to defend yourself from them actively trying to kill you. My V was a netrunner, damn good one, but she kept them alive and intact, as there had been no mention of actually hurting them, and fought her way to the drop-off point. It wasn't easy, they nearly got her, and that was AFTER she upped the ice on the car. And then Reed and Alex immediately execute them. That was the plan all along. They knew she could have just rendered them both braindead with a single daemon the second they plugged in and driven the car back without a fight. Instead they made her risk her life, needlessly, stupidly. Her, one of the crucial assets for this whole plan to be a success, and they risked her life. Why? Just so they could kill the twins personally? Why in all the hells wouldn't you inform your operative that this was an assassination, not an abduction? That was the straw that broke the camel's back. The first was the two dudes in the apartment who helped defend and hide Myers. I liked them, especially the fellow Nomad. Reed definitely killed them, and why? Just cause they were a "loose end"? The second was Slider. Honestly a decently reasonable dude all things considered, and of course Reed was definitely gonna kill him if the Blackwall hadn't gotten to him first. The third? Song's backstory, honestly. And Reed's undying loyalty to Myers, no matter what atrocities she commits, no matter how many times she sacrifices him. I mean... we all realize what would have happened if her screwing with the Blackwall went any worse, right? There's nothing beyond but death and horror for all. And not-quite last... the ICEbreaker. Really, Reed? So Mi is probably one of the best netrunners EVER. And you think it'd be a FANTASTIC idea to try to ICE her? Via my personal connection?? She's already all up in my brain, dude! That's genuinely idiotic to think she wouldn't immediately know! Yes, So Mi lied, about a lot. But... she literally never asked for this; the experiments, the backstabbing, the Blackwall, the FIA, Dogtown. She was blackmailed into this life, and by who of all people? Reed. And yet he desperately wants to think he's her savior. Ironic. Another factor was that, by the time Firestarter happened, my V had already made peace with the idea she was probably going to die. She knew So Mi hadn't disclosed everything, had probably lied about some more things too, but Reed had lost her trust (if he'd ever had it in the first place), and honestly? She wanted to help So Mi, even if that meant damning herself in the process. She was already damned anyway. Would rather die helping someone who deserved better, who could have a future. What's another pile of corpses to a mountain of them? What's another lie and another truth to a library of them? "I would have helped you anyway" What's one more bullet? Congratulations on the new headache, Reed. Stay down this time. I sent the bird to the stars, and I didn't have a doubt in my mind as I did it. Sure, I still bawled my eyes out to the credits, but I regret nothing. I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. Fly high, So Mi🕊

@briantown6716 Месяц назад
Yup exactly, the straight up murdering of the two netrunners after the car jacking...I was back and forth on who to trust but that immediately stopped me from trusting Reed. I see where he's coming from, it's his life and all he's known and good at and all he really has left but nah man, even though So Mi kept things from me too I still felt for her just trying to free herself.

First game since... probably the witcher 3 i have sat and watched game credits through and through. And i loved every moment of the ending, of ALL endings - i went through all 4, and listened to the credits every time. Every option felt painful, every ending left someone dead, or someone wishing they were. They were all beautiful, and they were all painful. I'd never have it any other way. Dawid and everyone on the music team, writing and design teams all did so well, phantom liberty felt truly amazing to play, i actually had to force myself to pace it out so i didn't blow through all of it in a weekend. (Also the credits playing felt like the intro to a bond movie, it was beautiful)

It's interesting to hear of the motivation of others in this choice. I pulled the trigger. Reed was a professional. He knew what could happen to him in the line of duty the moment he took that oath to the FIB. Given what we see on the Tower ending perhaps at some level he'd rather die in the line of duty than be stuck behind a desk and left to slowly moulder in numbness and regret. Perhaps if he could save Songbird in death where he'd failed to do so in life, perhaps that would give both his life and death meaning.

There is something to be said about this expansion being a nigh-on masterpiece. I went through the same feelings as you did, but the difference between you and I are night and day; after finding out the truth, the decision I had taken was not difficult to take at all: I saved So Mi; I shot Reed. In spite of the obvious manipulation, the overpromising, the callous disregard for innocent lives ended by her machinations, the anger caused by her lies: I saved her without a second thought, for my own principles and morals led me through to that decision. Even if she had said the truth, that the cure could only save one person, I would have helped her escape from Myers and the horrible fate she would have at the hands of the NUSA and Militech as the middleman between the Rogue A.I.'s behind the Blackwall and Real-space. No doubts. No Regrets. The Songbird is free.

I'd like to point out something no one seems to be pointing out about PL. This story isn't V's... it's Songbird's story. This is further exemplified by the fact that all the mission names are song titles from the 80s goth/post punk era. Songs...for the song bird. Harmonies

I shot Reed and sent So Mi to space. I felt like V, despite the let down of So Mi's betrayal, wanted to actually save someone for once. Killing Reed was easy; V has killed countless people. But selflessly giving someone the chance of a happy ending felt right, especially when V knows she likely won't be getting one herself.

The experience of Cyberpunk with the expansion has been a whirlwind. An experience of betrayal over. and over again. Tons of times. And it is your choice whether to give in to the hope of better society or give in and be the narcissist and execute decisively all choices to screw over people to your own gain - yet come out with empty hands later on. The morality and humanity questions that come through this game is just enormous

Still thinking about it after finishing the game a few weeks ago. Felt terrible helping Reed and turning on So Mi but she was ready to burn and kill anyone or anything to try to survive. Was my V ready to do the same? In the end, I did what she asked of me and put V back at square one. Brutal choices in a brutal world.

One thing is if you help her she straight up tells you before she takes the ride up. She didn't have to do that. She was helpless and didn't have to tell you the truth. In the end what did Mayer's or Reed expect they both have forced so mi into a life she did not want into being an agent a tool worthless to them beyond her skills but one of the first things you learn as an agent is betrayal and that knife cuts both ways she betrayed Mayer's Reed her country V and even herself to some extent I personally have sent her on that shuttle to the moon in hopes that now free from the tyrants and chains that had held her for so long she can finally make her own decisions not forced by primal survival or desperation, and she can finally live .................. At the end of the day there is only one good ending, all the other endings you are being cruel or cowardly to your self and to So Mi. In the end Songbird did what she was taught to do she had no one until V shows up, so when she discovers that V do really care for her she had already made the choice to trick V because she had no one that was willing to help her. In the other hand V has a lot of people willing to help. My choice will be always the same help So Mi because it's true we will never know if she can get help in the moon but after this incident she will definitely be trated like a dog and be locked up to a slave to the NUSA to the rest of her days.

After learning that So MI is basically a walking-talking WMD, my further decisions were based on the idea that Myers should not have So MI no matter what because she has no idea what she is messing with. This conviction was reinforced after visiting cynosure bunker. Thus, at least for me, there were only two acceptable options: So MI is free and cured, or So MI is dead.

I immediately knew, when "Gate K9" kicked in, that I was entering the last part of the DLC. It was clear as day that things were about to ramp up drastically: it was going to be brutal, with no time to think, and probably no glory either at the end of the tunnel. The soundtrack conveyed that message in mere seconds and the game delivered. And just as I was escaping that area with Songbird, the soundtrack went almost silent. The feeling I've been through at this very moment is hard to describe... You know you've escaped, but you still feel the pressure because everything is way too silent now, even though you're in the clear. You already know things are going to go horribly soon, it's just letting you breathe before the big finale.

Phantom Liberty is like a mastercrafted spy thriller in which you are a main protagonist. Not the hero, just a protagonist. There are no heroes in PL, just victims and survivors. There are no good choices, just various no win scenarios and bad deals. There are no happy ends, just different degrees of tragedy, betrayal and loss. I too didn't want to finish Cyberpunk 2077 after finishing Phantom Liberty. Because the impressions and impact of the experience can only be conveyed by a true masterpiece of immersive storytelling. And i kinda didn't want the ride to end, even though it was clear from the first hour that it will, that it must. No other game of the past decade has left such an intense impression on me than Cyberpunk 2077. Baldur's Gate 3 may be GOTY and deservedly so, but Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is my personal game of the decade!

[Spoiler] Marco I chose the same ending as you, because I felt betrayed. But what if I tell you the "cure" that we got was a ruse, 2 year in a coma, how reluctantly and sorrowful Reed talks with us in the clinic, what if they crippled you on purpose, because you know too much, what if they made you weak so you cant do anything about it and put you into a coma so they could experiment with Songbird and your biochip. This is at least a theory of a lot of people and it makes that ending feel even more devastating. Reed: "No need, V. You got no reason to thank me."

I saw 3 endings from the base game and 2 endings from Phantom Liberty, I know there are more but I know the outcomes of the ones I have not experience it and without getting into spoilers territory, I would say that for me personally the canon endings are the ones in Phantom Liberty. I don't like where the story goes in the base game and I think Phantom Liberty came as an expansion but also as another way to give V a different Path in case you don't like the path you are on in the base game.

Songbird's confession to V is the act that redeems her. A wicked, profoundly corrupted person, a person controlled by a malevolent AI following some cold, survival oriented logic would have kept playing the role that guaranteed the maximum probability of survival -- she would have remained silent until she was safely on board the shuttle... or maybe forever. But So Mi was still human... and she confessed to her greatest competitor for the cure - V. After that point, there is no way I would ever hand her over to Reed or the NUSA. And even if you cannot forgive her for her betrayal, is it wise to give back a "ticking bomb" to the person/country that abused her? Myers will just force her to continue those black-ops through the Blackwall, and eventually she'll break down and make a VERY costly mistake. Also, you must know that the moon is basically governed by the Highrider Confederation, basically a group of space-dwelling humans, who has no love for corporate Earth. Tycho, where So Mi will end up, is famous for ending the Seven Hour War with a shot from one of its mass drivers that levelled Colorado Springs, destroyed the US military command, and ensured the defeat of the US. No wonder that both Lucy and So Mi picked the Moon as their "safe haven".

There's no happy endings in this universe. You have the choice between killing her, leaving her to be experimented on, sending her to Mr Blue Eyes' people on the moon not knowing if she's even okay, or have the FIA "save you" by simultaneously stripping you, a huge threat to the FIA, of the ability to ever use implants again. It's ALL bad. The Cyberpunk universe has told me one thing: Happy endings aren't guaranteed, get used to it. Sad thing is, this is closer to reality than any fairy tale Hollywood portrays.

Even though she lied to me I could understand where she came from and would have honestly done the same in her position. So some spoilers to follow... I took the other route. I thought that maybe, just maybe, by incompassitating So Mi, I could get her, the matrix and convince Reed to just for a moment do what was right for her and get us both some help. He'd gone dark for seven years, seemed to have his own motivations despite his loyalties. Perhaps he'd finally let the NUSA go so he could help his friend, the lil sister type that he mentored. But we never got that chance. So Mi tapped into the black wall, got possessed by Rogue AI and went on a rampage. And after an hours worth of digital eldritch survival horror... Her sickness caught up to her. She was weak, scared... in pain. Begging me to kill her. That anything less would be worse than a death sentence. And I fuckin' struggled with it. I wanted to help her despite the lies and I came to the conclusion that what she asked for was the only help I could give. Then I saw Reed's reaction... Was plagued with the "what have I done" of it all until I then met with Roslind... So Mi was right. And Reed... If he didn't toss his badge right there he'd be doomed. I felt so guilty. Would songs plan have faired any better? Was the FIA really going to cure V and if so would she come out of an operation room soon after? I wanted that happy or mostly happy ending but... Wrong city... wrong people. Just like always. City of Dreams...
