The ultimate secret weapon for phase adjustment!! Peep this quick tutorial for a tip that will last you a lifetime!
While many plugins can invert the phase of a signal 180 degrees, IBP stands as a true outlier in being able to cleanly rotate your phase anywhere BETWEEN 0-180 degrees!
From the UAD site:
The Little Labs IBP Phase Alignment Tool plug-in for UAD-2 hardware and Apollo interfaces lets you easily eliminate the undesirable hollow comb-filtered sound when combining out-of-phase and partially out-of-phase audio signals. Fully authenticated by Little Labs, the IBP Phase Alignment Tool plug-in is a “fix it” as well as a creative one, letting you tweak audio phase as a texture and tonal color.
Whether combining direct and miked signals, acoustic guitar and vocal mics, drum kit mics, or multiple split-guitar amps, the Little Labs IBP Phase Alignment Tool plug-in makes sure signal phase can be quickly and easily controlled and manipulated.

How will this Help with Multi frequency splitting in to 3 bands I have a record bell sound with condenser mic and I want to split the frequencies to Lows ,Mids and Highs To their own audio track separately means I have 3 separate audio files 1.lows 2.mids 3.highs then export each Individual audio out and then import into another audio program do a lot of manipulating to each separately and bring back into daw to sum together as one big sound ?
@ekozumusic
@ekozumusic 3 года назад
Hi, this plugin wasn't designed for that, however what you described is easy to accomplish using EQ. Basically duplicate your audio track so you have 3 copies of the sound. Then insert an EQ on each of the 3 tracks. Filter each EQ so that one track has only the lows, one track has only the mids, and the third track has only the highs. Then you can manipulate them individually :)

do you also change the starting point of the actual note when u change the phase? if yes i would have to cut the tail right?
@ekozumusic
@ekozumusic 2 года назад
Your note should still sit at the same spot on the grid. The math is pretty complex but I will double check this as it’s a good question. You won’t have to do anything with the tail.

…..or you could shift the kick / sub / snare around by ticks. This method is cheap and as effective. Rotate is a dance way of saying, ‘ moving by a few ticks / samples /.
@ekozumusic
@ekozumusic 2 года назад
That is one way of looking at it :) but using IBP gives you a better degree of control, especially with sub. Low frequencies need to move more than a few ms/samples to change their phase up to 180 degrees, and you don’t always want to change where your sub is sitting on the grid. I won’t pretend to know everything there is to know about phase, but I’ve definitely gotten better results with IBP than using, for example, In Phase by Waves to nudge the sample (though In Phase also is amazing). Thanks for your comment!

Why not use an oscilloscope to see where they’re out of phase while adjusting the phase?
@ekozumusic
@ekozumusic 2 года назад
Good question! For your kick and sub, for example, you might want 80hz and down to be in phase, but not care whether 500hz will be in phase, because 500hz won’t leave a “hole” in your bass response. Using Span like I show in this video is a helpful visual aid. As far as I know, using an oscilloscope wouldn’t be entirely reliable, but if you have luck, please let me know!

do you place the little lab on the kick or the snare?
@ekozumusic
@ekozumusic Год назад
It can go on either, but keeping in mind that the kick overlaps with both the snare and sub as far as frequency content. Whereas the snare doesn't interact with the sub as much. So I might put IBP on the kick, match it to the sub. Then if the snare isn't meshing with the kick, I don't adjust the kick IBP because that would change the kick's relationship with the sub. Instead, I would put another instance of IBP on the snare, and adjust the snare to the kick.

how do u know if they are out of phase with each other?
@ekozumusic
@ekozumusic 6 месяцев назад
On the frequency analyzer, when you are solo'ing both instruments at the same time, you will see dips/holes in the frequency ranges that are phase cancelling. Typically this is in the low frequencies.
