Phase4 + these four changes doubled my effective range

I took a 2023 Mathews Phase4 29, built precision arrows, super tuned my bow, changed to a thumb release, and destroyed 40 years of bad form habits to go 30 yards max to 60 yards max in just 3 months. I basically tore everything down and started over after 40 years of shooting a bow the same way. A must video for all archers who have hit a plateau.
I started with building the most precise arrows I've ever shot. Then I do a super tune on my Mathews Phase4 29 to match those arrows to the bow and get absolutely perfect arrow flight. I then swapped my release from an index finger release to a thumb release. Finally, I worked hard to destroy bad form habits from 40 years of shooting.
If you feel you can't shoot better no matter how hard you try? This video will help.

I got back into archery a year ago after thirty years of not shooting. Within a month I was experiencing target panic. This winter I watched a video by 'bow only outdoors' RU-vid channel on curing target panic with a surprise release. I bought a UV button and went through his process. I'm now out to 70 yards and feel like I have a very consistent surprise release. My bow is shooting a bare shaft within an inch of a fletched shaft at twenty so my bow is pretty well tuned but this is going to be my next area of concentration.

great video, just pulled the trigger on a phase 4 29 today! Same draw length and weight as you so this vid hit home. Looking forward to new thumb release.

Good video. I too was frustrated and changed some things as well. Changing from trigger to thumb and now hinge really improved my shot and form.

To help with target panic, just go through a sequence. As I’m holding on my target, I always repeat in my head, aim, aim, squeeze, aim, squeeze, aim, aim. Try to keep your pin on target after the shot. It helps me from jerking at the shot, and dropping my bow arm.

I was always taught to try and watch my arrow hit through my sights. Helps you stay in the shot. Follow through is an important part.

What is the name and model of the release you use?

What thumb release did you buy? I’ve been looking just unsure though.

Nice work. Kinda interested in the thumb release, is it really that much better for hunting? Appreciate it, thanks.

No, you have to keep track of it, leave it attached to your bow banging around, dig it out of your pocket, etc... if I was using one this year I wouldn't have shot my second biggest deer, we both walked into the clearing by my stand at the same time. If I had to mess around at all I would have watched him run away. Instead my release already being there ready to go, got me a nice ten point after he stared at me for a few minutes, and I could stay perfectly still.

It’s a personal choice. Some people like them and some don’t. In response to the other reply you can easily attach the thumb release to a wrist strap so it’s always ready. Good luck

@BowsiteBowhunting yep, and swinging around banging off your bow, and your stand, binoculars, etc... if you're not worried about seeing a deer on the way to your stand no big deal. It is a personal choice though. You may or may not like it. Some advice is to buy a cheap one to see if you like using it. I have an expensive stan just x that just sits on my shelf. I use a spott hogg wise guy with boa strap now. Rigid that folds back out of the way and stays there. To each their own. Good luck either way.

Bare shaft is not necessary broadlead tuning does the same
@Iscariot18

And broadhead tuning tears up your target. Don't mess up.

Youre still punching the trigger man, you have no follow through. Get your release hand flat against your face and never move your thumb. Drag your thumb across the barrel with back tension. Im not talking shit at all, ive just been in your same spot bud. Keep practicing and youll be out to 80 or 100 in no time

I came to say the same... there's no follow-through after the shot.... always should be pulling and pushing... if ur doing it correctly, you will see it in the release hand. HOWEVER, I have seen people do perfectly fine like this... unfortunately, it usually ends up in more troubles down the road.
