You just seriously couldn't be any more adorable when Phil began his drum piece. "In The Air Tonight" will forever be a legendary part of music history. Love ya Phil ❤🥁🎤
It is very sad to know that Phil has hardly any feeling left in his fingers to hold a drumstick. I love his music. He has a unique voice and incredible multi talent.
I was just reading that yesterday. He said he can't even hold a drumstick anymore and he's struggling, alot 🙄 He's a great man and my best thoughts & hopes are with him. He has so many ppl he'll never meet that love him like family.
A lot of us were introduced to this song in that premiere. It ushered in a new stylish genre of tv and the greatest drum drop in the history of the world.
Ive seen numerous ppl comment that they've seen this same video many times and they still hold their breath because they don't think he'll make it to the drum set in time lol. Love Phil❤
Unfortunately no one will see Phil playing the drums again as he can't even hold a drumstick in his hand but he still sings even though he's in a wheelchair
here is something to think about that I have not seen anyone comment on. from the moment he is at the top of the stage, walks down the stairs, walks across the stage, up the stairs, finally gets to the drums is the exact time he needs to be at the drums. that in its self is awesome
Not bad for a drummer who sings a bit! :) We are talking about one of the best drummer ever!!! Phil joined Genesis in 1970 as their drummer. He did some backing vocals to the singer, Peter Gabriel, and also as the singer on 2 tracks up until 1976. Peter Gabriel left 1975 after the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour and the search for a new singer began. After MANY auditions for a new singer, the band decided that Phil would be the new Genesis singer. They released the 1976 album A Trick Of The Tail with Phil Collins on vocals and drums. For tours they hired an additional drummer, Bill Bruford and in 1977 they hired Chester Thompson (the other drummer in this video) who played on tours. He also played almost every Phil Collins solo tours. Phil Collins is one of only three artists that has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a group. The other two is Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. A busy drummer who sings a bit!
I have always loved Phil Collins music, but my respect for him soared when I learned that in the history of music, only 3 people have had a number 1 hit on Billboards Top 100 as BOTH part of a band and as a solo artist. The other 2 persons are Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. That is some serious company to keep. :-)
This was a hell of a performance, I wished I had been there. Loved how he timed his walk around the stage to end at the drums at the right time. When he wrote this song and “I Don’t Care Anymore” he was going through a messy divorce and that is where the energy comes from. As usual great reaction, Mo 💜
And every time I watch the video I get an anxiety attack thinking he's not going to make it to his drum set on time... Only a drummer can have such an impeccable sense of timing.
Thank you SOOO much for watching the whole performance before commenting! Most "reactors" pause it multiple times to talk~ and that diminishes the power of the performance. It's so evident that you really appreciate and honor the music~ and your adorable!!!
The first time I saw Phil live was with Genesis on Peter Gabriels last tour with the band . Phils vocals on Carpet Crawlers stole the show. I was hooked ever since that show in 1975
Genesis are going on a world tour soon. Phil Collins's son is going to play the drums. Peter Gabriel,Phil Collins and Michael Rutherford was topping the charts with soloprojects at the same time in the 80s. Great Band. Love your reaction and you look great as allways ❤
@@FLmickey90 I think he is playing in a prog rock band.Forgot the name. There is something special with father and son drummers. Have you seen Jason Bonham playing with led zeppelin at o2 arena. Check out Kashmir its fantastic.
@@rolfjamne8922 I haven't kept up with him (Nicholas) lately, but thought I may have heard something about that. It sure is! That was for Celebration Day right when Jason played with them? If so, I have seen that one and have watched it MANY times!! Kashmir is one of my favorite songs by Led Zeppelin and love that live video!! There's just something about how that song sounds is just amazing! Plants voice for that concert (for the videos I've seen from it) is still AMAZING!! I like their music, but there were times I'd change the station when they'd come on, but now when I hear some of their songs I'll keep it on now, ESPECIALLY Kashmir and Stairway. Have you seen Heart's version of Stairway at the Kennedy Center Honors?
@@FLmickey90 Kashmir is one of my favorites to.Its different maby its because of the arabic or indian scale in there. I think i have seen that show if it's the one where Lenny Kravitz plays Whole lotta love.
@@rolfjamne8922 That's what I think as well with liking Kashmir! I'd go back and forth over the years (80s and 90s) with their music and liking it and then almost being bored with it, but in the last 20 or so years, I've really have been better with liking it more. And yes, Lenny Kravitz did that song! It was great to see Jason come out with Heart and seeing Robert get emotional as from my understanding he felt bad that he didn't get in touch with Jason and then ..."SURPRISE!!"
This is my fav song of all time. I actually saw him live early 80’s. I’ve seen over 50 reaction videos and you just jumped into my top 5. I’ll probably rewatch this 20-30 times. You’re freaking adorable and react at all the points I feel are awesome. You go girl 👍😎🥰
God bless you, you didn't pause it! Lol, I watched several reaction videos to this, it's one thing to pause it in the beginning, but people pause it when he gets to the drums and F--K up the whole video. You have one of the best reactions if not the best to this because you were wise enough to appreciate this beautiful work of art and not pause it. lol, I know some people say you have to or you tube will delete it or something, but not at the deeeaaak guuuuum climax!!! Lol, Good job!!! Enjoyed you reaction.
He reminds me of my mates dad,who is an ex British special forces soldier in the clip. My friends dad had the same intense stare that as a young man would almost scare me even though he was a lovely bloke and a good father. He was always nice to me but i was always respectful to him .i knew he definitely wasnt a man to cross.
Phil takes us on a journey, building the tension. He has his audience in the palm of his hands from the first ethereal notes to the dramatic ending. Perfection!
Bless you for not pausing the video during this epic performance!! Your ability to see and feel the entire song, uninterrupted, provided a perfect reaction. Well done.
You’ve got a $million smile. Try listening to either Jackie Wilson singing Lonely Teardrops… or Nancy Wilson sings ITS OVER GIRL. They’re not related but from the same 60’s era. SOUL SHAKING
One of the greatest songs ever written. I got to see Phil one time playing drums for Robert Plant and he might have sang back up on a couple of songs. The man was an absolute pro. I wish only the best for Phil. Good man.
Hi music friends How you doing one love 3 years ago I watch Phil Colins live. European Tour (I am mot dead) it was awsome. He couldnt play the drum set but his Son did WOW WOW WOW WOW and more WOOOOOOOW WOOOOOOW. It Was der best live Show. But let me say this 1980 Bob Marley at Betzenberg Kaiserslautern Was the greatest.
Hi,,Baby girl you look so happy today. Now onto the video (Song). I liked you reactions and happy smiling face when he played the drums. Stay safe from Covid-19 to you and your loved ones.
Phil played the drums with Genesis before he became a lead singer! One of the best drummers of all times....AND SINGERS OBVIOUSLY!! LOL!! I knew that you would be blown away with this performance, so Thanks as usual Mo for your beautiful smile and great reaction as ALWAYS!! 💕
he starter off as the drummer, but Peter Gabriel left and they were looking for a singer, ( he said hey I can sing) never knew they had a bad ass in their group
July 2023 it is the drums isn't it? Thank you for this video reaction I've been watching many many people react to this song that's video. It's pure joy, if everyone of you reactors could get together you'd have your own concert-going watching him on this video again.
Not only a great drummer and singer, but Phil had style, every time I see him play the drums on this I still get goosebumps, thanks for uploading and a great reaction, and your lovely smile. Mick Thailand
Phil is a legend of our time, thru his voice in this song, I still see the image of street lights reflecting on the hood of a moving vehicle down a dark road...and that drum set he does...fuggeddabouit!
You know what? I've heard this song a billion times (well, maybe a few zeros less * lol *), can sing along perfectly and and and, but hearing this song here and you together gave me pure goosebumps. Wow.
After reading a couple of comments. I had no idea Phil was in such terrible shape God bless him and I hope he gets better and delights us again with his incredible talent Take care everyone!
Phil was the Drummer and later the Singer of Genesis, one of the greatest Progrock and Popband. Listen to „Los Endos „ from the Album „ A Trick of the Tail „ , and the Duke Album 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 My favorite Album is „ Trespass „ and „ The Lamb lies down on Broadway „ with Peter Gabriel. A very special Musican of this Band is also Toni Banks 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
The bass guitarist with the long beard is the LEGENDARY Leland Sklar! Check out his RU-vid Channel; totally freaking awesome!!!! The electric guitarist is also the fabulous Daryl Stuermer (pronounced "stir-mirr"). Both are from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Also, on drums, is the great great Chester Thompson (from Los Angeles, CA)!
This song was written as an "ode" to the guy who cheated with his first wife. He had given it thought to present it to his wife during the divorce. You can see he still can channel the hurt to this specific day. ... and it gives new meaning, knowing this, to the "uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh" rift... he saw it. In a later interview he said it wasn't anything specific, just going through the divorce. HOWEVER, it his first public performance of it, he has a paint can on the speaker, and the guy was an interior decorator. LOL Genesis band members disagree with the interview, said it was personal. I think he just has a lot of class and was done dissing people during the interview. This was in Paris, there were 80,000 of us there. Such a great time.
No, he played drums on "Do They Know It's Christmas". Then he played piano for 2 songs ("Against All Odds" & "In The Air Tonight") during Live Aid at Wembley, hopped on a Concorde Supersonic jet to Philadelphia, played the same 2 songs on piano, then played drums with the surviving members of Led Zeppelin. I saw it all live.
Phil was what I call "The Triple Threat." He was a great drummer, singer and song writer. It always puts a smile on my face when I see these reactions to Phil's drum solo.
