❤ Not bad for a drummer “who sings a bit”! :) One of the best drummer ever!!! He joined Genesis in 1970 as their drummer. He did some backing vocals to the singer, Peter Gabriel, and also as the singer on 2 tracks up until 1976. Peter Gabriel left 1975 after the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour and the search for a new singer began. After MANY auditions for a new singer, the band decided that Phil would be the new Genesis singer. They released the 1976 album A Trick Of The Tail with Phil Collins on vocals and drums. For tours they hired an additional drummer, Bill Bruford and in 1977 they hired Chester Thompson (the other drummer in this video) who played on tours. Phil Collins is one of only three artists that has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a group. The other two is Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. A busy drummer “who sings a bit”!

Ohh my god! I didn't know about this. What happened to him?
@ForeverDegenerate
@ForeverDegenerate Год назад
@@rachelmckitterick Phil suffered a Spinal Injury in 2007 that resulted in Nerve Damage. Despite having that Spinal Injury corrected in 2009 (he underwent surgery for it), he never healed from the Nerve Damage. In fact it got worse. Much worse. He couldn't grip drumsticks and began to lose mobility over the years. Then he developed Diabetes as he got older. He's wheelchair-bound now. However, I don't think @Anita Wright is correct in saying he can't sing anymore. I think Phil can sing just fine. In fact, he just finished his final tour with Genesis a year ago. And, yeah, his son Nic plays drums in his stead for Genesis now. Nic was just 18 when he had to step in for Phil for the first time. Interestingly enough, both of Phil's sons are excellent drummers. The elder Collins Brother, Simon, has his own career that, actually, mirrors Phil's. He's also a drummer that happens to be the lead singer for a rock band. So yeah, Phil wasn't about to ask his eldest son to shelves his own successful career to take over for Dad. Besides, Nic was of age, ready, and willing. So Phil gave him the chance. Nic isn't Phil on the drums, but the boy hits that Iconic Drum Fill HARD. Nobody will ever play it the way Phil played it, but Nic comes close. You should look him up on RU-vid. There are videos of concerts of Nic playing the drums with Phil on vocals. Nic is short for Nicholas, by the way. Nic has a bright future ahead in the music industry if he stays, which I think he will. You can't ask for better mentors in the industry than the Legendary Band known as Genesis. And I have no doubt they will do right by Nic and look after the son of their fallen leader and friend.

It all begins with a rumble of a knowing storm in the distance, but its coming with certainty. A conflict coming like a storm building. A predictable clash, intensely building. The final countdown, the clash, the storm rages with no way to avoid it tearing everything to bits! The surprise, the emotion, the shock, the unleashed fury, the awaited confrontation that needs settled so the storm can pass! Doors are thrown open, words are finally said, the unleashing of judgement is pronounced. Then,,,, the storm is over! Things will never be as they were and never will be again! The calm begins of the passing storm with a new life, alone and yet, new! But, its settled! Exhausted, yet time to rebuild and move on!

If you can believe this, the studio version of this song from 1981 is pretty ordinary and very much of its time. There's no way that listening to it, you'd ever think it could've spawned this live live performance which is one of the very best live performances of a studio track in history.

970This song débuted on Phil Collins' first solo album in 1980 (he was part of the super group Genesis from 1970 until 1994) when he was twenty nine yrs old. This 2.5 hour concert is from 2004 (Paris) and he sounds even better. You will love all of this music. And yes, he has a marvelous voice and is very intentional (good word). Genesis is the same, very intentional. Check out the music from the Disney movie 'Tarzan'. Mr. Collins not only sang all the songs for it, but wrote all the music. He even received an Oscar for 'You'll Be In My Heart'. Amazing talent.

This song and this performance- details aside, its about the feeling of seeing justice come to pass by a strong hand-whether that be God or the representative of God on earth. It's terrifying and enlivening of joy at the same time- its a build and release of that primordial mob mentality within us all. I don't know a better example of a perfect song being brought to a higher level of intensity with a perfect performance. This is like standing at the gallows to watch Jack the Ripper be hung from the neck until dead.
