As a fellow amateur poker player, I stand up every time I go all in, regardless of whether the hands over yet, or whether I’m holding the nuts. It’s just how I do.
You misread the situation. The amateur was actually scared he was gonna lose, he stood up because he was prepared to see Kk as he genuinely explains at the end
@@erikolson5291no he wasn’t scared of Ivey having kings. Ivey said u got the nuts and he said I know. I took it as if he was just trying to act a little more polite when he realized Ivey wasn’t too happy about how he reacted. Maybe he’s a big fan of Ivey and didn’t wanna be rude so he just said whatever he could to try and make up for what he did. But who’s to say
@@davidrobertson2826 that's the point. Ivey told Duffy " why did you stand up, you have the nuts". Duffy pointed out very specifically that Ivey could have had pocket Kings for a higher boat. Given the fact that Duffy had a Jack in his hand, he knew that ivy could not have pocket jacks. Either way though, Duffy certainly didn't have the nuts like Ivey stated. The point of the comment is that ivey said sit down, you have the nuts and Duffy said "no, in fact I don't"
When he pulled the earbud, you knew Ivey was tilted af. Wasn't even plugged into his 1983 walkman during the hand. FYI - McGregor played this hand virtually perfect with bet-sizing and overcalls from Ivey's 3-bets. 🎉
This is actually something Phil Helmuth does. He gets angry that he lost, so he tries to make it out that the opponent did something “wrong”. Whether that something is poker related, etiquette related, or really anything. Ivey just got coolered in the longest and most grueling tournament, so I understand him uncharacteristically losing his composure there. That said, it’s very clear the opponent did nothing wrong (even if for example it was a bad call pre, there’s nothing inherently “wrong” with that). Just a rare showing of Ivey’s human side. Ya know, the one with emotions 😅
This is partially true. I play for a living and based on action of the hand, the stand-up looks like a weird slowroll to Phil. That is how I would've seen it too. Once amatuer explains that he was prepared to be shown a hand that literally never plays in such a way, Ivey says "nevermind, we just see things differently"

This is the one and only time I’ve seen Phil Ivey out of line at the poker table. In a 30 year career of greatness you are allowed a few moments of frustration and this was one of them.
i saw one where dwan hit a flush on the river and overbet; ivey didn't know if it was a hit or bluff.....when he called, dwan said 'i got it' because he knew that phil knew he was either bluffing or strong and phil tilted like a b-hole.....says "you got it" like he's mocking dwan; "what do you mean *you got it* pfffft" with a douchey look on his face

But here he's trying to tell an amateur how to behave when even some pros can't handle their emotions after throwing down their cards with an all-in call? They don't need to hide their tells when going all-in and cards up, so I understand being excited. Etiquette? Standing up when excited is far better than trash talking. If this is a matter of Etiquette, then screw Etiquette. Put it in the freaking rules if it's so wrong. If he's not breaking any rules, and he's not breaking any laws, then let him stand. Next up, WSOP sitting only edition. You stand, and you're disqualified, lol.
@TaipanPete the previous people replying were ripping on me about not knowing Poker Etiquette. Yeah, I don't know poker etiquette, but I do know how to treat people as human beings.

I mean its just bad math to insure 15% for 4.5x. I don't care how you run or how unlucky you are, you are supposed to make the statistically sound plays. For people who don't understand, this is the equivalent of someone saying "I'll bet you 10k dollars on a coin flip, but you only need to pay me 6.75k if you lose."
I read it as him standing up out of excitement. Heart had to be racing against Ivy. I think the second all his chips were in he wanted to stand up. Not because he thought he was going home.
Nuts would of been k j. I don’t think there’s ever not a time to stand up when going all in or putting most of your chips in. Standing isn’t disrespectful to the other player in the slightest. Even if the guy actually did have the nuts.

@@R0BACE I don't even think KJ raises this turn but it's possible. Even if we say KJ is in Ivey's range, there's only one combo of KJ left and there are a ton of Jx/flush/full house combos that you beat.
He stood up in excitement, because he outplayed one of the best players in poker history. Ivey should have checked back, especially when he got called on the turn with a paired board.
Wouldn't say outplayed. Just a crazy turn. And without knowing preflop action, can't say he should of checked back. Kinda hard to put someone on J8o if any raise pre.
He stood up because he was excited. But from iveys view watching another player stand up after putting it all in is a sign of resigning or knowing you might be beat because you don’t have the best hand.
Well, considering Ivey is one of, if not the top player in history, he could easily have had pocket Ks. In which case, the guy was beat. And no, standing up is not a sign of resigning. Anyone can stand up at any time when ever they want to. It means absolutely nothing. Unless you have the stone cold nuts, you can always be beaten so standing up is not out of the question when all your chips go in.
I hate it when people say you got the nuts when you don't, and I would've used the KJ or KK excuse too, guy was just very anxious and ivey just very salty 😂
I gotta agree with Ivey that’s a little tilting to beat someone in a pot stand up attract attention like that. Call the bet turn your hand over scoop the pot stay seated. It’s actually a rule in some poker tournaments for players to not stand up during hands granted this is afterwards bit still. Win your money and move in act like you’ve been there at least.
