311allmixedup That's seriously one of the best parts of her performance. She completely validates the flat note by the way she soars back into the melody. It's incredible that woman's ability as a vocalist.
I've always thought this song had Grateful Dead written all over it, though written by Ryan Adams. This song as well as Easy Plateau...Come to think of it the whole Cold Roses album has some Grateful Dead influences. Maybe that's why it's my favorite Ryan Adams/Cardinals album.
For all of those wondering about this song and "Rosebud", Ryan Adams is a huge deadhead, and wrote both as tributes to the boys. Not sure about the rest of the Cardinals being heads, but Adams is most definitely one.
wow.. Joan Osborne AND Jimmy Herring?? Doesn't get much better than that. Seems like the spirit of the Dead is alive & well. FABulous. The steel player is wonderful, too.
@Ehrabe you are fortunate. Red Rocks has got to be the best venue for such a concert. Saw Neil Young there many years ago from 8th row. I'll never forget it.
Just listened to Ryan Adams (full marks for a great composition) and the Cardinals - cool and competent but this version is much more adventurous and exciting - Joan is outstanding as usual.
Ryan never does just one version, especially for the songs on this album. Check out this version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VmGEZDAgtHQ.html
@sc583501 I never knew that! It totally makes sense now that you pointed it out! "Rosebud shipwrecked up on the Ohio" and Rosebud is in a glass case in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland Ohio. The lead guitar on Rosebud reminds me of Dark Star, not just the tone of the guitar, but something in the notes or the melody. You're right about it showing up with the cardinals more so than Ryan's solo stuff. Thanks for sharing!
This was the late show at the joint, I believe it started around midnight and they played three sets. Camera doesn't show Jimmy Herring on lead guitar, in addition to Barry Sless. They played several Ryan Adams songs that night, and played them really well.
CzarOfVermont..... No I have never seen Furthur perform live, but I have grabbed a few show from them off the internet, and they are very good. I still dont know if I like Furthur better than Phil and Friends, but its close. Arent some of the members of Further and Phil and Friends some of the same? The reason I like Phil and Friends is because of the special guests he sometimes has. I love the shows with Chris Robinson, for example. Other guests I like are Ryan Adams, Warren Haynes etc
