Here's another car that ticks all the boxes for me. I love the whole "sleeper" vibe of Phil's car. And a Rambler!! Inspired choice Phil! Absolutely beautiful...this IS hot rodding!

@@carcollectingfortherestofus Seeing as the American and Javelin shared the same basic chassis l would have loved to see one in TransAm. Actually I think the SCCA missed an opportunity in the mid 60s. A lot of the pony cars were sold with inline 6s. Most Mustangs certainly were until at least 68, maybe 69. A class based on A Sedan as the TransAm cars were initially but limited to say 3.75 Liters or 229 CID. Call it T/A 75 (6/8 = .75, 3.75L is 75% of 5L).Open up the engine rules a bit in terms just what you could do. It could have given us some decent 6s when the insurance and gas crunch hit. Replacement cylinder heads would have been a good place to start. The Chevy inline 230 is the same bore spread as the small block with the same bore as the 283 (4.400). The AMC 6 is the same as the Windsor (4.380) and only .020" less than the Chevy. Mopar has a motor right in the displacement but I'm not sure just how well they'd do in a road race environment. The Ford inlines have a bore spread of 4.480 for the 240 and 300. With the 140, 170, 200 & 250 family at 4.08. That's the same territory as the Slanty. It's an interesting thought experiment. Take say an AMC 199 and figure out how to open it up to a 4.000" bore*. With the 3.000" stroke that's 226 CID. Make a new head for it out of Small Block heads. It's been done for Fords and Chevys. Bore the cylinders out completely and tig weld or braze in sleeves? There is a tool steel known as O-6, trade name Graph-Mo. It has a decent amount of graphite in it and has a very good wear resistance. Originally developed for Timken roller bearings. Timken owned the steel mill.

@@carcollectingfortherestofus It's a shame the bean counters dropped the Spint OHC inline when they did. Delorean supposedly wanted to produce a twin cam cross flow head for it. Just look at what Ford Australia did with the small block six that eventually became the Barra.
