Something about Phil's creature design for Star Wars. They looked like they had a soul. I mean they could be obviously alien and intimidating, but you could almost feel a consciousness behind them. Must of been the eyes or something.

I can agree with that actually I would go even further to mention that his creations where believed because of their looks thay had in a sense of a used "living aged" quality about them.

Good point. They look like they had a growth period in their life, maybe had scars, wrinkles, sun damage, etc. so that added to the unconscious story we tell ourselves; saying, "This exists." And I think that is often lost in CGI. If I watch, say, a modern superhero movie I fee like I'm watching a cartoon with some live actors. I watch _Empire Strikes Back_ for example and I feel like "this IS somewhere in the universe." @@apphappy3796

To this day it's bugged me why they've never fixed the flipped shot of Boba Fett in Jabba's palace even in the special editions
