Cubs fan here. I did like Jack Brickhouse's "hey hey" and Harry Caray's "holy cow" but no announcer proudly made baseball more entertaining than Harry Kalas' "outta here" and of course his historic final out call in the 2008 World Series.
Can you guys shut up American sports are the best I do like soccer but only mls in conclusion you guys need to stop your yapping about soccer being better than baseball
Pop Films he wasn't as bad as I thought he would be that game. He showed more emotion than I've ever heard from him, at least from a Philly perspective
Jeroe Bidlow Yes, yes they are. But, I'll remember this team for the rest of my life. My head still hurts from jumping into my living room ceiling when Stairs assfucked Broxton.
Thanks for including that play Chase made at 5:55 because in my humble opinion, it was the play of the Series. Chase Utley...you are the MAN! RIP Harry
@MANCHESTER UNITED No it won't. I assume you're basing this presumption on changing demographics courtesy of Mexican and Hispanic immigration? You have to recognize that, first, some of these peoples also love baseball and, second, many more of these immigrants will gradually assimilate to typical American tastes. The typical American view is that soccer is non-masculine if not outright "gay," and corny. Kind of like how many Britishers look down on baseball by comparing it to your "rounders." If you want to talk about changing demographics from Manchester, women's soccer at least will probably be gone outright in the UK in 2040 as all of your women are thrown in burkas and hijabs. By the way, why the hell are you on a highlights page for baseball? Hell, even basketball will most likely always remain more popular than soccer in America.
I am a Phillies fan. Joe Buck is terrible. He had no emotion though with any team until recently (McCarver leaving). He has some emotion now, but is still bad. Not personal to Philadelphia sports, just him.
@@PattyBandAidz Blanton never recorded a loss that year once coming over, he was a crucial pickup. Also the Dodgers got to him a bit, but he still had a 2-0 record and 3.18 ERA that Postseason in his three games. Not to mention 5:25, which, in spirit, gives him a 2.65 ERA in the '08 postseason, if you give him back a solo homerun.
I was at game 5 of the series, both nights. My junior year of highschool, pops came home, told me to get upstairs and get in the car. Surprised me with those tickets. I was in a stadium surrounded by grown men crying, my dad and I included. Magic.
SmithN' Wesson ....lots of men cried like kids that day, but so the f what....THAT WAS GREAT....AND the celebration after. Best was the, ahem mainstream media salivating foe some fucked up action....which never happened!!! Now that was good. Climbing poles and standing on truck hoods, all they got. Cause in PHILLY, we get along, An oasis in a somewhat troubled world, No Matter what other folks say. Truly, PhillyPA Rocks...always did and always will God bless us all you all, n take care truly. 2020 coming soon. Do the right thing. Trump for POTUS. 🙄😶🕊🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
Greetings to you sir from Philadelphia or thereabouts from Pennsylvania and a Phillies fan from Scooby from near Chicago and a Cubs fan. I saw that game on Fox Sports. Boy was that Joe Buck announcer a pathetic joke! I would've loved to hear Harry Kalas' historic message over the airwaves.
These Phillies teams from 07 to 11 were all very very good teams but this 08 year just might be the greatest assembled team in phillies history, you could not pitch to anyone in this lineup top to bottom, and the bullpen pitching that season, all season was almost umhittable, also helped that every starter was going at least 7 deep in every single game
As a lifetime Phillies fan, the celebrations have been few, but this 2008 Phillies team was absolutely one of THE BEST teams in MLB history…they simply gelled together like few teams ever do. A memory I will never forget.
yes they were the best of times. I had the thrill of being at both games 3 and 5 of the WS. being at CBP watching them finish off game 5 with my son will be a memory that I will take to my grave. As the celebration began my son said to "Dad what do we do now, the season is over". My reply, 'Jeff, it's only 92 days to Pitchers and catchers" Keep your chin up Philly, we have a young improving team. We'll be back to the days of CBP sellouts.
Len Perrone ...😁🤗😎😉😄🕊🦅Cool....ah, the memories. They will do it again. Not to worry. We may be a bit slower and not able to go bananas, as some of us would do in our youth, but the victory is still as sweet. My 56 yo husband cried as the Eagles took the Superbowl title. Tried to.hide it, but couldnt, LOL. ITS A.GOOD THING for a City or Town. Truly, have faith.....and lots of patience. Danielle. 🤗😁God bless n on to the next Season. Trump 2020!😎🕊🦅.Ya. Oui. Se. YES. later.
Those Phillies teams would fit right in today’s MLB. Home runs, strikeouts, and walks. That was the strategy. No bloopers, bleeders, or cue shots. One through eight, every hitter in their order was a threat to go deep.
Yeah, these team had a really good bullpen as well. Lidge was awesome this season, and Ryan Madson was the best set up man in the league, and could go multiple innings. JC Romero was also pretty solid as well.
That Matt Stairs pinch hit home run was one of the most electric moments I’ve ever witnessed watching sports. 2008 Phillies playoff baseball was the highlight of my youth.
Where is Utley's HR in the first inning of Game 1 of the WS? Also, I agree with most comments, total lack of professionalism by Joe Buck on all these calls. That team deserved your respect whether you have an anti-Philly bias or not. Can't understand why he's so respected in the business. (Besides having a legendary father)
MrMdmdmdm .....Lmao.....a vendetta?????!!!!...he is simply monotonous...that is it. Chill dude, or mam....LMAO....OVER JOE BUCK. 😁😀😆😂🤣😄😅NO F IN WORDS FOR THIS, JUST LAUGHS!
Totally agree with you on this. Why wasn't Harry Kalas on the play by play instead? As a Cubs fan who respects the Phillies I'm f***ing stunned. Totally disrespectful to the late great Harry Kalas.
2008 was freggin MAGICAL, total blast! Here we are again in 2022... :) And a World Series Game 3 in Philly on Halloween....I was at the 08 Parade on Halloween '08 Did I think Phillies would make it this far?? I fully admit, no...did NOT expect this at all. So glad I was wrong. - edit. Forgot about 6:11 , Pat hit that now infamous State Farm sign...same spot as JTs Inside the park HR a week ago.
Best Philles team ever in 2008!! Utley,Victorino,Werth,Hamels,Rollins,Howard!! I miss the 2008 roster soo much!! #GoPhillies #GoEagles #GoSixers #GoFlyers #GoTempleU #PhillysFinest
yea, I'm here again after they clinched a wild card last night.... Man, that 2008 team was special.. miss those guys. But glad to see the phils back playing some post season...
At the time of the World Series I lived on Roosevelt blvd and for the next like 2 days people would just be standing on top of their cars dancing and shit it was great, hopefully it can happen again in a few years
Goosebumps rewatching this, took me right back to my childhood watching Lidge throw that pitch, my family losing their minds, running outside with everyone in my neighborhood cheering, getting in their cars, and driving down to Broad St. to celebrate. I will never forget that night.
Frank Gradia .yes you said it. Those were BOTH sweet and much waited for victories. Long time coming...it will happen again. No doubt. Take care n God bless.
I cried both times. I’d never thought I would see any championships. I was only 4 years old when the 76ers won in 82/83. Until the 2008 Phillies I thought Philly was destined to never win anything. It’s still surreal to this day . Winning is very addictive, once you get that taste, you can’t get enough of it.
I was 28,I guess we’re even. What a great night. What a great 2 years with Halliday and his no hitter 2 years later. It was the unexpected golden age of Phillies baseball and I miss it. One of the home games for the Series the year after against the Yankees I was across the street at a Pearl Jam show which happened to be the last ever even before tearing the Spectrum down. Eddie kept the crowd up to speed on the score,we lost that game unfortunately. It was Halloween 2009
This was one of the first world series that I actually was glued to the TV paying attention to and I'm a Cardinals fan. All I remember is bombs I remember home runs being hit like they were nothing and they went far and high! Lol.
Watching this brought back great memories. I had just moved to NC after spending several years in Philadelphia. Will always be a lifelong Philly fan. I think there was a rain delay on the final game. I remember falling to my knees screaming with joy much like Lidge did after the final out.
DAMN!! 2008 WAS THE GREATEST MOMENT EVER FOR THIS PHILLIES BALL CLUB. ROLLINS, UTLEY, HOWARD, VICTORINO, BURRELL, FELIZ, HAMELS, BLANTON, RUIZ, LIDGE, ESPECIALLY THE LATE CHARLIE MANUEL. I MISS THIS ROSTER!!!
I'll always remember where I was. What I was doing during that last pitch.... south street Philly. Jumping around in the strees with everyone. Tears. Joy. It bridged all gaps. Color. Religion. Everyone was just..... full of love and celebration that night. Our city NEEDED THAT WIN
I guess I'm missing something with all the Joe Buck comments; they seemed fine. Enthusiastic enough about big plays. He's not supposed to be a homer. I love that Harry the K got to finally have his moment though, before he left. Grew up listening to his classic voice.
Wonderful memories. I still listen to the calls all these years later, wanting to jump up and down again like it's still 2008. We'll be back in another year or two.
All time Phillies Team? I am a Rays fan...I swear...I will $#!& myself if we go to Game 7. '08 was hard enough. Miss those guys... The Lightning got the Cup!!! The Rays WILL win the Pennant!!! And we have the g.o.a.t. (obviously Gronk) on the Bucs!!! What a time to be a Floridian (born and raised for 25 years)!!! Oh, get this, I live in Ohio now (all family originally from Zanesville, Ohio) and have family in L.A...Lebron (from Akron, Ohio) just won...with Dwight Howard (huge Magic fan) in Orlando (bubble playoffs)...and the Browns and the Bengals are so exciting now!!! Wow...2020 is repairing the damage for me here at the end of the year...ok sorry, I just had to say that once!!! My digression is over...let's go Rays!!! P.S. the 'Stros look good. Forget the past, this is an intense series!!! Can't help but love Dusty!
Good memories! Makes me think of my late brother, he loved the phillies as much as I, had season tickets....its never the same watching them without him here.
ever realized that the 2008 season was Harry Kalas' final oppurtunity to call the Phillies winning the title? Because he died before the end of the 2009 season. It's sad, but really a perfect story if you think of it.
@@nachocheez9690 up until 1980, only the national announcers on tv and radio got to call the World Series. After the Phillies won in 1980, it was the Philly fans that felt it should've been the local radio announcers (at the time, it was Kalas and Ashburn) calling the games on radio. Since then, local radio announcers of the respective teams got to call the World Series. So, next time somebody trashes Philly fans, remind them of this particular fact.
Crazy they won with hamels, myers, blanton, and moyer as their starting big 4 but couldnt win it all when they had the "4 aces"-hamels, oswalt, lee, and the late great roy halladay. Being a philly fan glad they got 1, but should have won at least 1, maybe 2 more during that run from 2007-2012.
Watching this after all these years and it seems like Joe Buck was bored calling the game. If this had been Cardinals or Yankees he’d have been more into it. Too bad Marv Albert didn’t call it or had Harry K do it. At least Joe won’t be doing it this time.
I would do anything to find the video of this run but shoot to thrill was playing over the audio. Don’t know where it went. It’s basically just this exact video but shoot to thrill is over it and it ends with we are the champions.
I got to deliver Phillies Championship clothing for 3 days to Dick's Sporting Goods stores. The first round we met a chartered jet at Phila NE Airport that came with the goods. I watched highlights of the parade, was too busy working. I loved every minute of my job then.
I remember watching a Phillies/ Braves game on TBS in late 2005 and being impressed by their lineup. I knew back then that they these guys were on the verge of having a great run and they did.
I recall vividly watching this on TV, Joe Bucks lack of excitement...almost total hatred that the Phillies were playing irked the hell out of me. (Probably wishing Dodgers - Red Sox WS at the time...bigger market in LA, ratings who knows) His final out...which I didnt hear live...was too busy screaming my head off (LOL), but then seeing it on DVR after getting back from a big gathering in NE Philly, my God his final call was pure sh*t. He pulled that crap announcing Eagles games also. Eh, in hindsight...who cares abut him. As Kelce said "No one likes us! We don't care!!" 😆😄
The memories of that year and being with your Mom watching that run are priceless. Every team re-builds we'll be back and I bet your Mom will be dancing with Harry K. when we get back on top.
