Formerly found throughout the Philippine archipelago, the ’Critically Endangered’ Philippine Cockatoo population crashed due to the destruction of its habitat and nest-poaching for trade. Less than 1,000 have survived.
One of the most important projects of the Loro Parque Fundación, it started on the island of Rasa, where there was only a population of 22 cockatoos, but thanks to the measures to protect the species now there are more than 280.
Parallel to the efforts being made in situ (in the place of origin of the animals), Loro Parque Foundation works in its own breeding centre to create a gene pool of this species, for example in this aviary we have 6 youngs, 3 males and 3 females that we expect will make new pairs.
