Seems a model family featuring in this old documentary film. A viewer informs me that the boy moved to Manila and his name is now Ramon. I heard that Ramon is now (2022) 76 years old and his sister Juanita 79 and the baby 70?. Rowell Sumang reported that his hometown San Luis, Pampanga, is shown.

What I learned from this is that the life before is simple but full of joy. People are contented with the life they had. They're educated, the girls have subjects like home economics which is a skill for people to know not just for girls. Children, all the people being seen in this video, are very hard-working, very respectful, and diligent. Glad this came up on my recommendation.

I am one of the baby boomers and this video brings back a lot of memories for me, I was born in the mid 50's and used to live in San Fernando Pampanga PH. I remember vividly the "Kalabaw", meals eating dried fish, garlic fried rice, living in a Nipa hut made out of bamboo leaves and bamboo. There was no running water so we have to collect water from the public "Poso or water pump" using a bucket, no toilet back in the days as this was after the WW2. That was our everyday normal routine / life and we don't know any better. Looking back, a lot has changed since then and now but I'm just glad I have experienced that kind of life, otherwise I won't appreciate the life I have today. The Gender Equality has improved now but men still get paid more than women for the same job. The modern convenience has a lot of improvement this day and age. The advanced technology like cars, phones, household appliances, etc.. My 2 cents? Life was much simpler back in the days than today but I won't trade the fresh running water and the modern plumbing like toilet, shower and bathtub. I know that there's a lot of ppl in this world sleeping like we're still the 50's but I hope their life improves as the time goes by like mine.

Way back when farmers can have a decent life. My grandfather was a farmer too and he managed to send all 12 children to school. Also he bought hectares of land as well. Farmers these days are so undervalued and not compensated enough for their hard work. This is what happens when the system only made for the rich.

Right. When I was a kid, I couldn't help but overhear my grandparents' and parents' conversations. They would talk about the lands they bought, and the lands that they own. I kinda get the feeling that the narrator isn't actually the farmer, but an American doing his best to sound like a Filipino speaking English. There's just a lot of inconsistencies with his accent, and some of the ways he pronounces words are not at all how Filipinos pronounce them.

@jevon bernardes Are you serious!? you make me laugh so hard, gosh! okay I’m no expert but I’m positively sure he’s no American doing his best to sound like a filipino. I mean come on! He sound exactly like filipino man who speaks fluent English. It was a documentary about the life of a typical filipino family who are Farmers back in the 50’s. The narrator might be an actor, journalist or an English teacher. He doesn’t sound American at all.! I mean are kidding me! His Tagalog pronunciation was spot on. I can’t even wrap my head around your comment. And add to my annoyance are the people who acknowledges your comment! I reckon you never met a decent Filipino who speaks fluent English. What a shame.
@jeb.2x
@jeb.2x 4 года назад
@@Maya-yp2ey I have met a lot of Filipinos who speak fluent English. Ones with accents, and ones without. None of the Filipinos with accents I've ever heard remotely speak the way he does. He can't pronounce tagalog words, and he even butchers his children's names. There's no consistency in the way he speaks at all. It also doesn't make your point to say that he doesn't sound American, because I wasn't saying that he sounds American. I was saying he's trying to fake what a fluent English-speaking Filipino would sound like. I only assumed he was American, because this is an American documentary. Even if you look up old footage and dialogues of fluent English-speaking Filipinos from that era, none of them sound like him. What I've said in my original comment is most likely true, because America, during the 50's, wasn't very inclusive to foreigners with anything. It was an era when most of the country was very racist, especially Hollywood and other film industries in the country. So it wouldn't be a stretch to believe that they hired a white man to do a voice over pretending to be a Filipino.

These are idealised visions of home life but as someone who might be old enough to be your father and one who has friends who grew up in farms and plantations, it's not as idyllic as these scenes appear to be. It's a hard scrabble life. What's the indication of that? Just look at the need and failure of land reform. It was meant to pull these people out of poverty but the advancing average age of farmers show how difficult it is for the next generation to take over. The need for capital and competition from more efficient farming in other countries squeeze margins and starve farmers.

My parents grew up in the Philippines and we migrated to the US when I was still 7, they told me about the life of hardship they had to go through to provide me the life I have right now, my parents helped both of their families, but unfortunately their siblings married too early and have children, then they asked too much from my parents to help my cousins education, my grandparents also asking my dad to pay for em' , my family was barely living. I haven't finished my college but I'm already a thousand dollars in debt in college loan and I have to get a part time job but still my grandparents asking my parents way too much. All because some of my relatives are lazy to work and just relying for financial assistance while pressuring my dad just because they thought that we have a better life here in the US, we're not rich, we're just like every other simple families. This is the reason why I no longer want to go back nor talk to my relatives.

But most Philippine farmers today don't speak English. Too much pride in dying languages is holding millions of people back. Also, schools focus way too much on arts and on contests. Because of rampant corruption in the Philippines--in every level of government--most industries are weak compared to other countries in the region. So English proficiency was the only advantage Filipinos had...but it's fading. :(

im filipino, im inclined to think that people now forgot how to think, couldn't be bothered to do their research, most of us are detached from reality, we have no virtues to uphold. we have elected a marcos back to power. shameful. im not surprised anymore. we've elected a criminal "duterte" (who openly admitted he killed people- criminals specifically but people nonetheless, violating their rights) and people continue to admire and praise his "leadership". we've elected his daughter for vice president 😒 you can't possibly imagine how disappointed i am with the state of my country. democracy is dead when people are fed lies and votes being bought. im beginning to hate the country and my fellow filipinos. and people who elected idiots and criminals to power moan about wanting good governance but electing them back to power. leni robredo could've brought the country to greatness and uniting people, bringing a sense of pride of being a filipino. we could've had it all. she had good intentions. women, in my opinion are better leading the country than men, take a look at new zealand, they handled covid better than most countries, queen elizabeth i and queen victoria, their country thrived under their reign.

I was born in 1996 and I live in the rural area of Cebu. I feel so blessed for being one of the few who last experienced this kind of Philippines. Our public classrooms were also old like what was shown in this video. I get to play "luksong lubid", tug of war, and a lot of traditional Filipino games during my elementary years. I got to dance different kinds of Filipino folk dances. And every afternoon we would walk home on foot, passing by the what was once a majestic beautiful lake we called "lamak" with many farmers and carabaos working until sun down. Those were golden years. The years where we still don't have smartphones and computers. The air was fresh and we would take off our shoes everytime we pass by the lake to feel the smooth green grass-covered soil. I feel so blessed to have experienced it all.

i was born in the year 1956. i missed those days where life was so simple. people are hospitable,accommodating, trustworthy and friendly. very nice of you to have posted this short film. i even remember those houses made of bamboo & nipa. in my childhood days we just played tops, hide & seek, slingshot & catch me if you can (habulan). no bottled water, smart phones, internet & computers. thanks for posting sir.

Wouldn’t it be cool if the real Ramon could comment here telling us he’s still alive and his ate juanita. Ramon could be 76 while juanita 78-80 y/o

I shed a tears watching this short video about the simple yet, happy life in my beloved country The Philippines. Back then life was less complicated. People are not corrupted by greed, technology and stuff. Filipinos were very family oriented, Polite, Friendly and resilient living a productive life after WWII ended. Good all days I won't mind living in nipa hut plowing fields, walking bare footed and live without much technology if it means living a life peacefully with respect and dignity. I want a time machine. Kudos to the uploader. Thank you with all my heart.

These are one of the reason why I am very proud I came from Philippines, from poverty because these are the motivation for me to strive in life but still keep my feet on the ground. Wherever I go I am proud where I from and I will always be.
