I've been using a Full HD TV as a PC monitor for the last 7.5 years. I finally see people realizing how great this is. I am still not sure however how to upgrade it. The best thing for me now would be probably something like a 21:9 and with a diagonal above 40". However 21:9 TV doesn't exist anymore.
im thinking of buy 2 of the Philips BDM4065UC 40inch 4K UHD LED Monitor. How do u find it? have u notest any burn-in if u leave the monitor on? is the image quality good? im also a casual pc gamer i just upgraded to the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming 8GB this card should good to run this monitor? but ill b mainly using it for productivity/ watching anima any feedback would great thanks.
good blacks>bad blacks....On a serious note, the 404K Crossover is exactly same VA panel as this PLUS it's flicker free, and under $700, this Philips is great monitor but not worth the price tag.
Does this monitor upscale 1080p well? I am planning to buy a big monitor, especially for gaming and video playback but don't need really a proper TV (I don't watch it and I dont want to pay TV taxes). So I am looking for a big size 4K monitor witch great upscaling capabilities.
Aren't you too close at such a big monitor? I have quite same desk as yours and That's the reason why I am afraid to buy such a big monitor :-/ I was thinking about not more than 32" ?
Nice review, but why you don't gve a model number ? So is this BDM4065UC/00 ? Also, probably would be beneficial to know if this stuff is wall mountable, as I have tiny desk!
Just picked up an LG 4k 43inch IPS chroma 4:4:4 60hz for 299$ smart tv too. I just found upstar 4k 28inch monitors no IPS for 99 each should i return the lg and get triple 4k monitors for same price?
Though you mentioned the image being "blown up" you should comment actual pixel density in a real review. The density is 110ppi. Nearly identical to 2560x1440. Lots of people understand that experience so you should compare it to that rather than say stretched. I do like your channel a lot though
Could a mac mini i5 power this ? Im currently using a Dell u3008 2560x1600 but could do with a larger screen for forex trading. Would you know if I would get the same quality from the philips regarding text as its sharp on the dell and doesnt need to be large to see it, if you get what i mean ? Thanks
+PC Centric It's a pity that there seems to be so much reflection (look at 4:41 for example, at the right of the monitor) , so if you can't put the monitor away of any light source, you'll see a mirror-like effect, which makes it annoying when you are reading text or coding... can you confirm this point? Could you please recommend any other big monitor for coding or reading purposes? Thanks!
Hey guys! I have a same monitor like that monitor in the video 4k, 40inch philips, and my question is: Is it possible that 60hz is the maximum the monitor can do?! Thx!
I have the exact same monitor. Im using 150% scale in Windows 10. What scale are you using? I tried 125% but I find it a bit too small... What do you think?
Why would you say, 40" not always what you want on your desk? Oh I wish the screen was a 28" today for "insert something" Its like saying I had a multi-monitor setup, but today I wish I didn't have the other 2 to free up some space. I can't think of a single use case where you'd not want it.
The conclusion is rather stupid, and is based around the idea that gaming is the only purpose of computers. If you don't want to sacrifice deskspace for screen real-estate then don't buy this. I see this as a replacement for two 1440p monitors. And the fact that the stand don't move is a positive. It would be more expensive otherwise and it has a vesa-mount. Something you should have mentioned.
I would like a 4k monitor like this to playback media on my android shield pro but it has come from the U.S. and I have no idea how to safely plug it in, the plug is a power switching adaptor with output of 19v 2.1A thanks.
I am looking to purchase this for trading, I am currently running 7 monitors on a mac pro 2009 running two graphic cards and it just takes up so much space ans uses alot of power, I just want a screen for maxim productivity , Can a macbook pro 2010 support this monitor.
The stand itself is a big letdown for me. Other than that the monitor looks nice and something that I would consider buying. Perhaps Philips will upgrade the stand to something adjustable in the near future?
Not very happy with this monitor to be honest its far from perfect. Bought this monitor partly based on this review. Screen flicker is a problem also the white tearing issue is really not good at all. Glossy screen is crap unless your sat in a room with no windows. Also the menu is shit. In my opinion buy something else.
I am going to buy this monitor on July 20th. I don't like the stand that comes with it. So I have got a better stand. Ergotron Neo-Flex 33-329-085 Monitor Stand. I can lower or raise and tilt :-)
I have a 40inch full HD tv as my monitor..suprisingly it does well.icons are big of course..but i think having a 40 inch as your monitor,2k in 40inch would be perfect option instead of 4k in my opinion.
Another con I would say is the electric usage bill. I noticed 4k TVs and monitors tend to be over $40 USD > yearly versus a 1080p which is $20 USD or < nowadays. But regardless, VA will always beat IPS! I CAN'T STAND IPS-glow!
I know I'm not exactly mainstream, but I've been using a 42" Vizio HD TV as a monitor for almost 5 years (1920X1080). I think 'PC Centric' just doesn't have a large enough desk, or large enough display. The brilliance of such a large monitor, for me, was that you can GAIN your whole desk surface back (as opposed to having something in the center of the desk, or in my case multiple 19" CRT's, at one point in time). I can sit back, have a keyboard, and books in front. I'm looking to upgrade to 4K, and I'm considering options. 40" would be the smallest I would go in 4K. I don't want it in my face!. I like the option of moving my head into it, if I have to. I don't look at my large size screen as on my desk, but more it either, is my desk backboard, or it's the wall. To have usable pixels at a distance I may even need 50" or up to 65". I would love to try this 40" Phillips though. Might need it up closer, and may be "on my desk." Thanks for the video
+rmacewen1 Also. I'm looking at a lower cost 4K TV solution, as well as larger cost & size solution of up to 65" with 3D. Right now Samsung seems to be the winner in terms of response times, but I cringe at active shutter glasses. LG seems to be the only passive 3D out there any longer, but are higher in the response times (poorer). I also have a 47" Vizio passive 3D HD TV, I got for a song, as a floor display model. Limitations of older HDMI make gaming in 3D from PC limited to 720 @ 60hz or 1080@24hz(horrible).
biggest issue with this monitor is its automatic input change when a computer goes into sleep mode. I have 3 computers hooked up to this monitor and its the biggest pain in the ass that it decides to switch to the next input when a computer is idle for to long. second is the white tears that randomly appear. 3rd is its horrible menu.
I actually wish more TVs would do without "SMART" functionality and just make the devices cheaper. I hope the competition releases 40" to 60" 4k+ monitors. PC landscape is evolving.
I just read some comments about Philips LCD TV panel reliability on Consumer Affairs site. Turned me right off of this brand. Too much risk, and too little tolerance for bad customer support. I'll wait for Dell or Samsung to release a competitor product.
If you are using display port than maybe is GPU driver or false GPU or Monitor! If you are using HDMI your graphic card only support HDMI 1.4b with maximum refresh rate of 30hz!
PC Centric Great video, I am almost sold with this monitor. Though I would use it more in production and I am very interested in colour accuracy and calibration capabilities. How close to sRGB and Rec. 709 colour space does it come?
nice review, how accurate would you say is the color and viewing angle when using lightroom? (compared to ips) ps: you should buy a lx100 for your videos to film in 4k ;-)
