I could watch Mr Rhee's fims all day, he makes his fight scenes look like a lesson in ballet dancing. He is so graceful yet so deadly. He was never used enough in films, unlike the bull in a china shop fight scenes of JVD or the so close you cannot see the punch scenes of Steven Seagel. Mr Rhee was the real deal. Film-makers missed the biggest star behind Jackie Chan by not giving him more movie time.
best of the best was one of the greatest low budget martial arts movies made. phillip is such a gifted fighter. i still get goosebumps when i see the last fight and the last moment when he does the spinning heel kick while falling to the ground to hit da han. such an impressive move to keep perfect balance with that. its a shame that he was burned out of the hollywood scene so early on. although he owns his own production company now, it would still be nice to see him in action on the big screen.
Phillip Rhee is the BEST martial artist in terms of his PERFECTED round house KICK form, his well BALANCED ENTERTAINING fight stance & approach, his precise striking snap, AND THAT DISTINCTIVE VOICE!!! things I haven't found consistent in the others TRULY BEST OF THE BEST
One of the best traditional martial arts film actors around. His fight scenes have some of the best use of Tae Kwon Do and Hap Ki Do that I have ever seen.
I would kill to go back into the 90's and rewatch all of these on HBO when they came out. Best of Best movies are so classic and underrated as well. Phillip Rhee and his brother Simon were just masters at their crafts. That must have been a pain in the ass movie to be made in part 2 as he had to teach Ralf Moeller and a lot of the guys who's never acted before not only how to act, but a lot of martial arts skills as well. He took the time and the patience on this project and it paid off big time. He definitely kicked off Moeller's acting career after that.
As a kid in the 90s, I idolized this dude. Best of the Best flicks changed my life lol. Massively overlooked action star who had badass style to go with a cool, charismatic screen presence.
Believe it our not I actually pulled of that move at 9:00 in a tournament when I was a kid like 8 yrs old. Won a first place in sparing. I did martial arts from like 4 - 15 yrs old and coping some of Phillip Rhee's moves help a bunch. I studied a Japanese Karate style but I would include some Tae Kwon Do to it when I was sparing in class and in tournaments...my sensei would ask me where I learned some moves I would do because he didn't teach it and I would say idk. Lol
I Saw both movies fantastic,, I wonder how is he doing and how old is he now,, God bless him,,he would of been a great worrior on the movies.. thank you
A great Martial Artist. There is a dojo scene from one of the Best of the Best movies that a year later it looked like Jet Li used in Kiss of the Dragon. They do look familiar.
+Kerry Hayward Yes you are right. He is a great martial artist, actor and director so its werry strange he dident do more movies.Even his brother Simon hade more bit parts then him.By the way he did a movie last year that calls underdog kids.Phillip looks excaktly the same and hasent age a bit and is just as good at martial arts.
I feel bad I can't even remember this fighter. & Yet I can remember most,I guess I can't remember because at the time Jason Scott Lee was doing his rounds & Brandon Lee I remember pretty well besides there are so many theses days 🤔 I forgot the rest of them, one of his move's looks a bit like Bryan Fury and Hwoarang's move's...
I like the 1 where Tommy and Simon joined forces. Simon asks Tommy "What do u need Tommy". Like the best of friends. Simon was like ur in good hands w/me. I had a friend like that at 1 time. He almost joined forces w/me on a big dilemma I had been going thru.
Philippe Rhee destroy Van Damme without hesitation, The speciality of Rhee is Rapidity and efficacity and an amazing technique too. He is a Tae Kwon do master even his brother Simon Rhee is a master too. Sorry for van damme but his level is so low for Rhee😌
@@jessicakaori7396 Van Damme is WAY bigger and stronger than Rhee. And I'm pretty sure that he has a reach advantage as well. Van Damme is also a second dan black belt in Shotokan karate. He also has extensive experience in TKD, Muay Thai, and Kick boxing. He also has an actual fight record (something that Rhee does not). And it's actually pretty decent. You can click this link to see his record en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Claude_Van_Damme I think that Rhee would get his ass kicked by JCVD. No disrespect, he's still pretty damn good and would definitely whoop my butt in his prime (and probably even in old age).
@@fourhorsemenmechanix757The only fact that i know about Van Damme, is that one day during a party at the nightclub in Belgium, Van damme was drunk and a gang steal his wallet. He has maybe dan and practice martial arts. But he is not able to fight in real life.
In BOTB2...when Tommy fights Baracus to the death...it's odd they didn't choose better tactics. Tommy is a middleweight...Baracus was a heavyweight. :) Can't use the same moves.
Actually he was offered the role if I'm not mistaking he just refused it. Don't know why but he would have been a better pick then Robin Shou. Just my opinion.
philip rhee very enjoyable to watch he real thing ,he techniques are very very good ,fantastic kicks speed ,endurance ,very flexibility ,very strong , very sexy too .great physical just shows very how fit he really is .
My friend looks for a movie with somebody in style Phillip Rhee or Don "Dragon" Wilson. Do you have any idea? Thank you in advance. 1. The main character is eastern asian. 2. In an underground tournament, an intimidating fighter has been given a sheep, he lifted it and squeezed it alive. 3. While in the fight or may be after seeing what happened to the sheep, his opponent was so intimidated that he started knocking at the cage telling the crowd to get him out from there saying something like: "he gonna kill me!!". 3. I think, but I'm not sure, that the intimidating fighter had a look similar to that of Tong Po (Van Damme's Kickboxer) or Khan (Van Damme's Quest), and the intimidated opponent was eastern asian. (But again, not sure). 4. At the end, we can see captive civilians, a whole family were shooted including a kid, and that family and the shooter(s) were eastern asians (But again, not sure).
The real ones know. He would've been a great actor. But sadly when that came out, martial arts was on a decline. The era passed and Phillip was left behind like all the other great martial arts actors of those times. Asian popularity declined and pretty soon rarely any Asians were given the chance. They just need to make one good martial arts film, akin to the old ways with a new flavor. I'm getting tired is super hero movies. Time to change it up.
I agree.does super hero movies like spiderman, batman, hulk and so on is basically kids movies.first there was the magazines and the cartoons in the 70s and 80s then in 2000 all the zombies and super heroes showed up.I am glad we got jackie chan, jet li donnie yen tony jaa and such but Phillip should have gotten bigger roles.
