You'll have noticed in Episdode 22 of "365 Days of Plants", we featured another P. hederaceum, but this one is a cultivar known as Philodendron hederaceum 'Brasil', which is characterized by having a yellow or white streak near the center of the green leaf.
This is an easy plant to grow and maintain-and I have several throughout my house.
In this video I go over some basic care tips including where this plant grows natively, where I'm growing it in my home, propagation, watering, lighting and more.

I love this plant. I've one growing up a moss pole and another in a hanging basket with newly propagated cuttings from the mother on the pole. Now waiting to see how they fill in🎉🎉🎉❤

One of my favorite Philodendron species. I first got one in 2017, and what I like most is how easily they propagate. I started with one and now have five... not counting one that I gave away as a gift.

I have this plant, a smaller version, and I just love it! I love how it trails, and loves where I have placed it, not direct light but a north facing window, and so far she is happy. Thanks Summer, loving this series, excited for the next video.

I just got one 😍 it's on a moss pole which I don't love, I'd prefer it to trail or grow on a trellis (sort of like a philodendron wall 🤔) hopefully I can train it!!

I had this one hanging by the window and some of the leafs are totally bright lime green! Now I have it hanging in a medium light corner, so that my marble queen philodendron can suck up all the light at the window. 😁

Your brasil philodendron is MUCH darker than the one i have, perhaps that is why it is still doing well in lower light! Mine has a ton of the neon / chartreuse green

Actually it's vice versa. It will get darker if you place it into lower lights because it'll produce more chlorophyll to catch light. Yours may be lighter if it gets tons of light or is a variegated one.

One will soon turn to ten. You can make new plants simply by splitting it down the middle, or cut under a leaf node and throw in the water and it will grow new roots in less than a week. I started with one, now have six.

Summer! If you ever get the chance go to Naples Florida! The residents have beautiful tropical gardens! With huge pothos climbing trees and monsteria, huge fiddle leaf figs, mango trees, avocado trees, 25ft + ponytail palm trees and huge climbing fig trees! Its amazing. And when I see thease plants I think of you. Like its so cool. Euphoribias, devils back bones, any tropical you can think.

I just got one but it looks kinda sad from shipping and being the plant closest to the heat pack so I chopped some that looked decent from the plant to try to save it with water propagation in case the original plant doesn't bounce back. The nursery pot was actually shrank from the heat. It was my first time ordering in cold weather and I guess I will wait until spring to order more plants. I also had 2 Hoya in the box that look poorly :(

Interesting. I brought home a golden pothos from a local nursery and mealy bugs with it, unfortunately. They spread to my manjula and Monstera, but not to my Brazil philodendron.

We ordered one of these and its awesome we had it about 6 months we just replanted it i was surprised it didn't have a lot of roots are they slow growers

Just a question re: brasil - I have one at home but for some odd reason my leaves have turned into a full yellow leaf. I don't have any green colour on my leaf. Is there a reason for this? I got a very small plant that I found being sold at a reptile show & over the weekend I went into look for rescue plants at Wally World (Walmart) and found a huge one that got way too much direct sun light and was on clearance for $4.25 (score) I also saved a pothos & a kangaroo fern also the same prices! I waited a couple days & then started cutting off the badly burnt leaves 🤞🏼💚🌿

I got my Brazil at Walmart too I'm trying to save it but it's losing a lot of leaves it's lost a lot of leaves like I'm scared. Part of which is my fault when I got it I repotted it with Moisture Control buy Miracle Grow biggest mistake of my life it kept the soil too moist so it started to develop fungus which I treated with peroxide and it fizzed really bad I even spoon out the visible fungus in the soil every so often but no matter what I do there's fungus gnats and this well they come out tomorrow I tried cinnamon on the soil and everything her leaves are just popping off pretty soon there's not going to be anything left of her I've try to let the soil dry out that's what I'm doing and I'm just watering her a little bit at a time to avoid rotting her again she is giving the morning sunrise everyday please help

Allisson Mueller ok don’t panic.... what I would do is take it out of any soil Clean all soil off Put in water like you are making cuttings In a new pot, not too big mix a potting soil with extra perlite & I add orchid bark to mine (not sure it makes a difference) and repot depending on how your roots look! My sister got me a dracena plant for $1:50 on clearance it took me awhile to get it out of the pot, the poor door had roots that grew way of out the pot, it was a nerve wracking first couple of weeks but its doing so well now. I love to rescue plants.

i keep mine in water, they do very well in water grown , i found in soil mine were too leggy so i have much better luck with water growing in these, i do have 2 in my south window, and water every 2 weeks these i find do not like much water

I've had mine for over 12 years. When I left my ex he put my belongings and plants in the garage in the middle of winter. My plant survived but a few weeks ago I noticed that it has scale. I cleaned her up using rubbing alcohol and I cut off as many branches as I could. I put the pot along with the soil into a trashbag and threw it away sincevI didn't want the scale to spread into thr garden. Is there anything else I can do to keep my beautiful plant alive for years? Thank you

Yup, when I put mine in the window I get bright lime solid color leaves, then I move it for a month to the far side of the room for almost a lime stripe down the middle and then on to the coffee table in the middle for the splash. Lol. It looks absolutely stunning. I intend to keep moving it around for the rest of its life.

I bought this last year... its not growing. The cuttings in water are growing better than the mommy plant in the soil. I changed the soil and put it in my plant room... maybe it needs more sunlight 🤔🤔🤔

Hi there! Well I kind of just want to vent but if you have any advice, let it rip.😜 I bought 2 small 4” containers of an Epipremnum manjula and a Brasil in Jan. ‘19. They DO NOT GROW. They don’t die either. The Brasil grows some tiny leaves on wispy vines but that’s it. All my other plants do well. I’m at a loss. Tried different windows, away from windows, etc. I give up. Maybe they’re just midgies. 🤷‍♀️🥴😔😭 Edited for clarification.

Repot into some good well draining soil. Water well. Let dry between waterings, and water again until water runs through. Small spindly growth can also be build up of salts in soil. Give a good drenching water, wait 20 min, drench again. Be sure all excess water drains, and not sitting in tray.

i have this plant next to a micans and cebu blue in a north facing window and it grows sooooo slow. especially compaired to the micans and CB. also the leaves seem to be really small. it gets plenty of light, and i think that i have fed it enough. i just dont get wth is going on with it. haha, mysteries

Luke Ritchie I looked it up briefly and although no study has been done, there are a lot of anecdotal side effects like increasing the likelihood of sunburn, clogging pores, blocking humidity around the leaves, etc, so maybe not a good idea?

@@nancypal Yes I saw those articles, but couldn't find much else on the topic. If one can use organic virgin coconut oil on skin because ot is absorbant then it should be ok for plants leaves? If used very thinly.would be interested to know more or if anyone has experience using it?

Luke Ritchie I don’t think it has anything to do with how natural or processed the coconut oil is. The point is whether the high fatty acid content in coconut oil will dissolve a plant leaf’s protective wax layer and impair photosynthesis or not, and if it does, what is the highest amount you can use (how “thinly” you apply). I’d imagine human skin cells are completely different from plant cells and react to coconut oil differently as well.

I really struggle growing this plant. I lost my first one, and the one I have now is not doing so well either. Out of all of my philodendron’s, this one is the hardest for me to grow. I just cannot seem to get the right conditions to keep it happy. I’m thinking my problem might be overwatering, but I’m just not sure. Right now I’m trying to propagate it, in case I lose it. But I have even found that this philodendron is not very easy to propagate either. For me at least. ☹️

Nope, micans has an unmistakable velvet sheen on the leaves and is a solid colour with tinges of red. Care is much the same though and both beautiful plants.

They’re botanically the same but in the industry they separate them. Micans and scandens and Brazil are all the same plant, all are juvenile forms as well. When mature they look nothing like the ones we know

Its the light, bright light will give you neon, low light will give you a narrow stripe down the centre and middle of a bright room will give you the gorgeous splash. Move him around and you'll have all three on the same plant.

Not to be rude but you're plants never look healthy and happy! When I acquire a new specimen I'll usually come to RU-vid and search care tips and I've come across your videos numerous times and almost everytime with every specimen they look so sad and droopy!
