By far the most difficult phish song to play on guitar. Those sweeping arpeggios are no joke, man. Sounds like even trey is struggling with them a few times here. One great thing that I have found out by learning phish songs on guitar is that you will ALWAYS walk away from learning one having acquired several new skills for your bag of tricks as a guitarist. For this one, it’s the sweeping at the beginning. If you can master that section then you’ve definitely gotten better over the course of learning this song. Trey’s playing has soooo many advanced advanced techniques even in the simplest songs. A goldmine for any aspiring jam guitarist.
That's why Trey is my favorite guitarist. Putting on the jam compilations they have on here literally taught me to understand the guitar after decades of "knowing" how to play guitar.
@@Elwood.J.Blues13 oh yeah man, like I said, learning Phish songs or sitting and figuring out Trey’s solos is absolutely great to give you new ideas and teach you things you’ve never thought about. I personally have Derek Trucks as my overall favorite player, but Trey isn’t far behind at all lol. In the strict “jam band” scene (I don’t count Derek’s band as really being a full-on jam band), trey definitely takes the cake (after papa Jerry, of course).
I remember traveling in Italy on a High School trip in 98. I brought my journal and a CD (yes a CD) that had ALL my favorite live YEMs on it. I'd listen to it on the bus between cities trying to channel Trey and Fishman on their trip to Italy when this masterpiece was scribed. I then understood the freedom and creativity they had when you totally immerse yourself into a different culture and let it release emotions within you that you didn't know you had. We finished that trip in Florence (where the Uffizi gallery is). I ditched my classmates for an afternoon and wandered the alleys there and found a pawn shop serving espressos. A couple espressos later for the free spirited 18 year old me and I left with a $100 nylon string guitar. I walked back to the Uffizi Square and saw a group of travelers singing along to a guitar player, so I lifted my guitar with the universal head nod of "may I join" Turns out the guitar player was from my exact state (NH) back in the USA. We dropped into playing "No Woman No Cry" so that EVERYONE could comprehend the language of Bob Marley. Within minutes there had to be 100s of travelers from ALL over the world singing along with us. Later that year, I used this experience to write my college application essay and was granted early acceptance to UVM in Burlington VT for the class of 98. I'm 42 NOW and this experience is forever engrained in my heart, mind and soul. Thank you PHISH for being a magical weaver of life experiences that has transcended space time since my first show in 95.
Man, these 4 gentlemen... I was lucky enough to see them a few times in the early 90's, and then life happened, and I got lost and they got lost, and I just stumbled across this video today... Geesh, right around thw 22 minute mark the jam goes so deep and I had to bite my lip as my eyes welled- the true Magic is still there, conjured by these four... Amazing.

Me and my pals have been chasing YEM since our first show in 2016. We all sobbed and hugged each other when the opening notes rang out. What a time, what a band.
Right on. Glad you were able to get it. I've seen Phish a dozen times or so since 2012 and we caught YEM in Chula Vista 2014, then in LA at the Forum in 2016 - haven't seen it since.
Oh my god !!!!!! Gordo’s Bass’s solo, Trey taking off his guitar and just vibing. What a freaking moment…. I have loved these guys since i heard the first note of Fee at boarding school in 1990…. Thank you boys !.. from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU !!
Friday's Fluff was probably the highlight of the weekend for me but these two songs combined were a close second Saturday was my 10th show and I was chasing a Camel Walk and they played it for me thanks fellas 💖💖💖
YEM has been my white whale... been dreaming of seeing it live since 1996... this was a magical weekend of Phish at Deer Creek; perfect weather, great phriends, covers of Stevie Wonder, Shuggie Otis, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, SLOW MAZE, Liquid Death Sparkling Water (I'm tellin' ya!) and a 20-plus-minute YEM I'll never forget! I heard not only was it the first time YEM has been played at Deer Creek since 1999, it hasn't opened a 2nd Set since May of 1989. This will be a forever memory!
The slightly more laid back tempo really accentuates the beauty and perfection of this song. Gordon is driving this version and as always with Mike, I kind of wish he could just solo for about 17 hours. Best bassist ever. Ever.
I’ve always loved going to Deer Creek every summer tour. I wish that they would have put the Deer Creek/Alpine Valley shows next to each other like they used to in the past. It kinda seems like there trying to break up the tour and such… either way, I’m still gonna try to catch as many shows as possible this summer tour. ROCK ON GUYS!!!!!!
Wow, such a wonderful transition between all of us being way out there, and bringing us back to the world of terra firma. Absolutely love you folks 😅😱😉🥰
YESSS!!! Thank you!!!! This was my phirst YEM! I about fell over with excitement when I heard the first notes and everyone went wild!! The energy was incredible. You could feel at that very moment everyone locked in. Glow sticks being thrown. You just knew it was going to be a good one and it was. Seriously, thank you! This song put me onto phish and to finally catch it meant a lot to me. You really do end up where you start.
My kid was ready to go towards the end of wave of hope and it was a very upsetting YET very wildly profound experience to go through the crowd. It really did feel like a sea of love & I’m just passing through.
God Damm. I have seen them 119 times live, 97 ALbany were my first shows, this is right up there with 2019 New Year's run Tweezer... It's been amazing to see there progression as a band. Top notch musical improv...
I haven’t seen phish live in 20 years. Been watching a lot of the videos the last couple days. I swear the bass player nods his head likes he’s having a secret conversation with someone nobody else can see.
It's 11.10pm on Wednesday evening here in New Plymouth NZ, headphones on & well in the groove ..... Thx Be to whomever or whatever connects us all that I find myself in this wondrous place .... Isn't life grand !!! May love, good friends & Happy Times surround you where ever U may be 🤗 and to borrow a line from one of the great lyrics of the then young Stephen Stills "may U love the one you're with" and keep all others in your heart
A month after meeting the woman whom is now my Wife and soon to be mother to our first child (Adeline Ivy Sharp). so a month after meeting her I flew us to Vegas for Halloween 2016 and 4 nights of PHISH whom she had never seen, stayed at the Luxor...She was Garth Algar and I was Wayne Campbell...needless to say she fell in love with five men on that trip...
Anyone else think they should do a just improv tour? Two sets as usual… but no songs.. just come out and play for an hour or so each set. I Would be ecstatic!
Mike baselines keep it. Strong and. Innovative the. Unique. Quality of his line are both peculiar and inquisitive finding new ground for where the bass is to be seated in the groove I find such defiance. Carried out over time with enthusiasm will ultimately bear your efforts fruit.
Name a more beautiful thing going on in the world than Phish. I went to church. I went to phish. Phish brought me a depth of enlightenment and pure bliss, without the use of substances mind you, than any church ever has. No offense. Its all about vibrations. You go to one of these shows and it can be alchemical. They ring the arena like a bell as well as everyone in it. Higher consciousness
