They were always really funny together. I get why they paired Chandler and Joey together in the beginning seasons, but man, pairing Joey's childlike innocence with Ross' nerdiness and his own naivety was comedy gold (Ross' leather pants episode comes to mind)

His dad was gay and would bang the pool guy, which lead to his mom being promiscuous with other men due to either loneliness or retaliation. It is implied that this lead to a cycle of debauchery in which both his parents would sleep with people in his life causing him immense shame. Which was why he was so upset when his mom kissed Ross. Because Ross, being his best friend growing up, should know the kind of damage his parents did to him due to their … sleeping around with people in his life. And because of his parent’s debauchery, not only did they make his life miserable by sleeping with people in his life … the home became broken, which is why he hates thanksgiving (see all thanksgiving episodes). E.g, since nothing was ever about him in his childhood … he had a lot of self esteem issue in adulthood (which pervaded every relationship he had throughout the show) and would use sarcastic humor as an escape mechanism. Money, unfortunately does not fix a broken home and two parents that put themselves before their child.

The show was originally filmed in widescreen and then cropped for 4:3 on TV. There are lots of gaffes/errors/bloopers etc like this one hidden in the edges of scenes that would not have been visible when the show first aired.

It's not even off... it's just the black backdrop from the Vampire Layer set... you see it in other scenes most of the screen is black except for the actors.
