Phoebe Cates ("Fast Times at Ridgemont High", "Gremlins") appeared on Late Night with Dave on April 9, 1993 to plug her film "Bodies, Rest & Motion" and to relate a humorous anecdote about a cab driver.
Two of the most wonderful actors and PEOPLE there is. Phoebe eventually quit acting raise her two children, and actually bought a store in NYC. Several years ago I was poking about the Upper East Side and happened to walk into a little gift shop. I had just seen her in the movie Princess Caraboo" one of my all time favorite movies, when I saw a pretty young lady standing behind the counter. I said, "Did anyone tell you that you looked exactly like Phoebe Cates??" She replied, "I get that a lot." Only years later did I realize that that was indeed, her.
I watched Letterman interviews with Phoebe from 1984, 1989, 1990, and 1993. She never lost her smile and cute laugh, but she definitely got better at talking. Not that she had to.
I am not in my 20's and I absolutely agree with you. I just saw BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY for the 1st time. Replay her modeling scenes for Oscar De LaRenta. Great hair, face and figure. Obsessed with her beauty and poise. Phoebe has always been one of my favorite actors to see onscreen. She's so beautiful and fresh looking.
I just watched Bright Lights Big City for the first time a few nights ago. Phoebe truly was perfect in every way I even loved her cute boyish short hair in that film.
I'm the same age as Phoebe Cates, so when she was in her late teens/early twenties I was as well. Phoebe had the perfect body in my opinion. From head to toe she looked phenomenal in both Paradise and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. She was always beautiful and still is today. She seemed to be somewhat shy or uncomfortable early on in most interviews in her twenties, but she always had a cute smile and somewhat mischievous sense of humor. She and Kevin Kline are doing something right because as of this writing (Oct. 2022) they are still together (the interview took place 29 years before my writing this) and they'd been married several years before the date of the interview. Not too many couple's make it as long as they have let alone Hollywood couple's.
I'm sure Phoebe's decision to quit acting and be a stay at home mom had a lot to do with their long lasting marriage. Plus if I was Kevin I'd do anything to keep Phoebe.

Actually, it's clear from the accent she uses during her impression of the cab driver that she is referring to someone from India. Then later, when she relates the George Hamilton connection, she confirms it. Given the headlines coming out of India at the moment, I'm sure many would empathise with her predicament.

Phoebe and Betsy Russell were in Private School together. To this day I’ve never seen a movie with a better one-two punch of stunningly beautiful women.
There was an interview of Phoebe Cate back in the late 80's or early 90's where Dave was just so stunned by her beauty, he was at a lost for words. It became such an awkward interview, I'm sure it's one Dave would like to take back.

Yes, she is amazingly beautiful and I would love to see her more often. I don't think she would be up for Dancing With The Stars as she injured her knee as a dancer or ballet as a youngster and had to give it up. I did notice her limp in at least one of the Paradise scenes. So she still has issues with it.

@Rob R Phoebe Cates is one of the most beautiful women ever, no doubt, definitely not average. However, there are a lot of mixed people in Hawaii. Phoebe Cates is Part Caucasian, Chinese, and Filipino, not an uncommon mix in Hawaii, so you do get some women in Hawaii who look similar to Phoebe Cates. She does have a familiar and nostalgic beauty for people who grew up in the Pacific such as myself.
How is she so sharp all the time? Even with a baby not getting as much sleep she's still on top of her game. Maybe it's because she's an actor and she trains this part of her brain? lol
