I don't have a clue what you did here but I love watching these types of videos and you explained it very well. I'm looking forward to the next video for the rest of the lot. Maybe consider doing a video where you explain the basics. You obviously know what you're doing and how to troubleshoot but for those of us that don't know what an and gate is or the flow of of the data through the board maybe try making a video for us complete newbs.

Just stumbled across your channel while browsing related videos on my subscribed retro-hardware channels. I *love* the detail you go into while troubleshooting this. This was extremely educational and I appreciate you sharing your experience with us. I remember playing Phoenix and Pleides back in the day, and I always wondered how similar they were under the hood - very similar, apparently! Thanks for the great vid! Subscribing and checking out your others now.

I have a Dig Dug PCB that is doing the exact same thing with the glitches outside the playfield. This makes me want to have another look at it. The funny thing is, I was just getting ready to write a comment about it when you showed the same issue on your board. It's like you read my mind somehow!

Hey Dr zett nice to see you back ...just a note for you ..the two bipolar proms for the pallet data can sometimes come with one missing ..the data is combined in to one i.c but still have the socket there for two i.c's ...I'll see if I can find my two boards and get the i.c numbers ..just for future reference I guess ..again a great repair sir ..don't leave us for so long again 😁

Howdy - I’ve been following your repair videos closely. I really appreciate the detail you spend to explain things. You’ve inspired me and I’m currently attempting my own phoenix pcb repair. I wanted to ask if you could consider a video where you talk about changes that were made to the board such as jumper wires and such. The one I’m working on now has jumpers added, caps soldered to ic legs and other weirdness. Would love to see your approach to debugging why those types of changes were made, whether you try to go back to original board configuration, or other thoughts on this matter. Keep up the great work on these videos though!

Very helpful video! Gives me some confidence and guidance if I ever need to repair any of my pcb's (I'm sure that time will come one day... :-))

Nice video! You have an excellent way of explaining how you trace the fault back on the schematic. Always nice to have a working board with these multiple pcb games. I repaired a bootleg phoenix a few months ago but only had one pcb stack so it took me a while. There were multiple faults, one was similar to your problem, I had the game working but the starfield in the background wasn't "blanked" so it was also behind the score. Took me a while to figure out what the problem was... Anyhow, looking forward to your next video of the logic board and the pleiades boards!

Great video sir. I'm trying to fix a no video out Arkanoid and boy does it take a lot of paitence to hunt down the problem, especially with poor quality schematics. Looking forward to watching part 2.

Hi Doktorzett, I'm wondering if I can ask you a quick question since you have a working Phoenix PCB. In my repair on the CPU board, does your pin 11 wiggle on IC34? Mine is not and thus the two flip flops I suspect at IC37 are not doing much. In my case its stuck high coming out of IC34 and I want to confirm that its not the correct behavior. Is that correct? Should pin 11 be wiggling to have the flip flops be activated? Having real challenges getting a stable sync signal just to show garbage. I removed the CPU to take it out of the equation just to get this far. thanks so much for your help!

Nice job, your diagnostic skills are great. I've got a double dragon 2 pcb where the image has dropped about a centimeter from the top of the screen. I'm wondering do I have a similar horizontal circuit problem!

I have super breakout with a garbage screen The problem must in the CPU area?
