Sebastian, USA: December 2017.
From 13 000 feet, 23 highly skilled wingsuit pilots take to the sky. Once a year, team ‘Need for Speed’ meets up, united by a common passion for human flight. They are an international group of skydivers from all over the world.
These are not full time sponsored athletes; they are everyday people, with normal lives, and normal jobs. They don’t have a hunger for the extreme or a death wish: they simply love to fly, and all share a passion for the same amazing sport.
Some of the most technically skilled wingsuit pilots in the world, they’re obsessed with clean flying technique, using their suits as an extension of their bodies to perform choreographed displays that appear to be a mixture of flight and aerial ballet, with the suits they fly allowing them to perform at unprecedented levels of accuracy in a perfect union of skill and design.
Phoenix-Fly, the world's most innovative leader in wingsuit design, has its roots way back in 1998. The company is known for making cutting edge wingsuits that focus on maneuverability, performance and safety.
In design, the goal is to follow the shape of the human body as closely as possible.
A wing designed with the cleanest shape possible, minimizing drag, and maximizing lift and control. This allows every small input made by the pilot to be translated to wing, resulting in the most pure and clean form of flying possible. Wherever the body wants to go, the suit takes it.
Subtle manipulation of the relative wind through the wings, can make the pilot change angle, speed and direction at will. The sky is transformed into a playground, where the only limit is your imagination…
