Phoenix Model Funstar Airplane Review: Around Tuit RC

The Funstar is a great flying airplane. The clear film covering is appealing to the eyes and shows off the great build. With it's large wing area it will float in the air very easily. It was a little windy this weekend, but that didn't slow us down from getting another RC review wrapped up. Be sure to stick around until the end for a great blooper reel.

I have owned 3 Funstars all running an OS 55 nitro engine! Probably one of the best planes for sport flying airplane out there!

That IS 1 big airplane indeed :D Nice and oldschool on the covering as well :) Is it easy to modify the tail to have 2 elevator servo's on it?? (and possibly make the tail 2 ailevators) Flies great I'd say! Cheers and thanks for sharing :)

Great review and flight Eric,you have got one friendly FD there mate,i can't imagine ours doing that over here in the UK,mind you we don't know until we ask right. Thanks for sharing mate but next time listen to Candy and stay away from that tree.:-)

Oh no! What was the damage, if any? Looked to be in goood shape. Man that is a pretty plane. Do the crazy colored stickers come on it or can you leave them off? That might be a good first non-foamie plane. All I have had are foamies so far, and I like them, but I usually stiffen them up with carbon fiber tubes/ rods, and clear tap... but one of these days I want to get a built-up type plane like that with balsa/ ply, and covering. That looks like it might be a nice one to get. Good price too.

BWX I had two small holes in the film covering that were easily fixed, but other than that it was in perfect shape. I crashed "just right" lol. Yes, the stickers come fixed to a page of plastic and you have the option of adding them or not. This is an easy plane to fly so if you are comfortable flying with ailerons then this one might be a good first plane. I would also look at the Great Planes Extra 300 SP. It has bright colors and easy to setup.

That exact thing happened to me and the FD used the same type of ladder truck to rescue my plane in the tree. We all get in trouble when we say "just one more time". I feel better now......

Its unfortunate Phoenix discontinued it. The plane does suffer from a weak fuselage right along the pilot and wing areas. Saw a few crack open in mid flight if pushed too hard on electric versions, cant imagine on glow. Some who had a chance to buy them and see its weak link, reinforce them before its first flight, and once done, it sure is a nice aircraft.No disrespect to firefighters and for their service, but man, that guy needs to be put on probation and lose a few pounds.

I landed a 2 meter in a very talk tree 30 years ago. The kind of tree escapes me at the moment but it was not a safe tree to climb. My flying buddy, age? in his mid 70's climbed that thing like a pro. Breaking off trash limbs for safety as he went. Got to the top and he was so high we couldn't hear him. Motioned he'd toss the glider and he did. Landed it at my feet. It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen an old person do. Of course I've tree'd, roofed and powerlined my fair share too but that one was special.
