Phoenix tried new method to put out Waymo EV fire

Phoenix Fire officials say they are getting national attention for a new approach they took to battle a fire involving an electric vehicle earlier in the month.
Initially, officials said the fire, which ignited at a Waymo warehouse in Phoenix, would take weeks to burn itself out. The fire was extinguished after about a week.
The new EV firefighting approach was developed after Phoenix fire crews responded to a fire involving another electric vehicle in the Valley.

More like 10 tons to completely bury those things - CRAZY ! ! The smoke from those fires is so toxic, it can kill people. Two firefighters in Melbourne, Australia were permantly disabled from the effects of an EV fire - never to work again.

@@hi9580 these lithium ion fires are hotter than open air gasoline fires by a whole lot. they've been known to melt concrete and burn steel. what type of fire proof containment system do you suggest?

Insurance companies should “tax” EV owners but don’t hold your breath on that one. Easier to have ICE owners share in the cost.

so let's see - a tele-handler to fork the burning car into the dumpster (is the telehndler operator protected from noxious fumes) / a truck and emergency crew to bring the dumster in / where do we park the dumster / bring a semi load of sand in / bring in an end loader that is sitting on standby / cover up the car in the dumpster and let it sit for 3 weeks / haul the dumspeter away and clean it out / send the complete bill to the owner's insurance company and listen to them squeal / need a youtube of this

So the fire department will respond to fires with a shipping container on a flatbed, a skip loader and a dump truck full of sand plus an additional pumper with water to wet the sand. F'n' BRILLIANT!

Tesla car doors are electronically operated by a button. When a fire starts the electric components are known to fail then your locked in your own car with others in the back during the fire

Time between burial and full extinguishment will vary due to differences in battery capacity, how long it burned initially prior to sanding and a bunch of other currently unknowns. All I can say is good luck with this unfolding nightmare that is being forced upon the populace. Idiocy.

The reason the fire is hard to put out is because it's a metal fire. Need class D fire extinguishers to put it out or smother the fire in dirt or sand. Why are they using water?
