Two top models released within a few months of each other for a similar price.
The M15E Super with Ortofon’s top VMS model and the V15 Type III was Shure’s top model.
The M15E Super had very high tracking ability with low tracking forces, comparable to the V15 Type III.
Both had technical innovations with the M15E’s split hollow pole pin design and a low-mass variable magnetic shunt vs. Shure’s laminated pole pieces and a low-mass aluminum cantilever with a beryllium core.

Shure V15 type 3 w/ a Jico SAS/B stylus (a nude fine line contact). The Shure has more "space", the Ortofon has bit more lower end. Both are quite good AND hard to find.I found both on old decks at thrift stores. Thanks for the video.

Again, love your choice of music (exciting!), and your approach of digitizing after phono stage. With good headphones, it is possible to hear subtle differences. Close call between these two cartridges, although I find the Shure more refined.

It's interesting how the frequency residence graph is really reflected in the sound of each cartridge. For me, the Ortofon has more timbre and less air than the Shure. But that timbre might give the impression of listening to music rather than a recording.

I had the M15E Super when it was new on the market and never liked it, so it was replaced after a short time with an EMT TSD15 with paroc stylus.

Very close and I had to listen a few times to discern any difference. To me the Shure does a better job of portraying massed strings as a group of instruments producing the sound whilst the Ortofon homogenizes them a little more, its a little more of a facsimile of an orchestra verses the V15 III.

I actually have a Shure V15 type III but I don't use it because it just sounds lifeless, it's technically better then the (also old) other cartridge I have, but the other cart just has more life, conveys the music's MOJO much more... and at the end of the day that's what's most important to me. Thanks for the vidi.
