What happens when you have multiple photographers shooting the same subject matter or landmark? The scene doesn't really change, so what makes each photographer's take so radically different?
In this video I'd like to talk about the concept of photographic interpretation. Often when I'm on vacation or in an over-photographed location, personally I tend to want not to shoot photographs simply because the subject has been visually recorded so many times. But as I explain here, this is almost an unfortunate attitude.
I've picked several locations of major landmarks and collected photographs of these same locations taken by different photographers. I think you'll see in this study that when you collect the same subject matter and have different people create a picture from it you can still have very different interpretations. The talent and voice of the photographer becomes very obvious.

The Sugimoto works were meant to evoke the original vision of what the architects had in mind dreaming of their buildings without all the details.

Ted, love your stuff! I really like how you explain things the way that you do, and always seem to have a relevant example to help us understand what you're saying even further. A video from you is worth way more to me than any other means of learning photography out there. I could go on, but just had to say thanks for everything!

Great video! I found it especially interesting because, pretty much until this point I've held the philosophy that there isn't much point in shooting something that's been photographed to death. I kind of thought that what a photographer chooses to shoot creates their style, but I now realize that the individuals style can influence what's being shot. You're a gentleman and a scholar, Ted Forbes. Thank you for posting such informative videos.

An open question to photographers: Do you love Morell's shot of the Golden Gate Bridge because of the process used or because it's aesthetically pleasing? Or a combination of both? Would you like it as much if it was captured on a dslr and layered in PS with a shot of the ground? No right or wrong answers or judgements. Just curious on the response.

Recommend you Eps to any serious photographer amateur or professional. I live near the Canadian Rockies and so many shots are "hackneyed" lacking in inspiration. Photogs tend to shoot the "tourist"shot that they have seen before and are simply trying to copy the original and call it their own.

Thank you for this. It's got me interested at visiting landmarks and interpreting. However, you misspoke at 21 minutes and 6 seconds, during the discussion on Warhol's Empire video; you say "Chrysler Building" instead of "Empire State Building". see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C7f3oyYjUDM.htmlm5s
