Stunning location and top drawer pictures too Stuart! I'm gonna take your advice next Thursday on the boat "Just point your camera at something and it will probably work"!!
Was watching your updates on Twitter & have to say the video (pt 1 anyway) has lived up to the expectations - stunning conditions and portfolio shots galore - fabulous. atb Al
Hey Stewart, I loved part 1&2 of your LOFOTEN photo expedition!! Beautiful images indeed. I found your channel through Thomas Heaton's News letter this week, in a link to your "Selling Prints VLOG" I I went to Lofoten in Feb 2020, just prior to that global Virus problem :(. I was there for 7 days (From Australia) it's a LON, LONG way to go, but worth every $ spent. I would love to go back there ASAP and explore that wonderful place. Vastly different to the Australian landscape. Cheers from Aus
Hi Stuart fabulous place gorgeous images I love the ones of the trees in the blizzard conditions glad you got to do one of your bucket list trips many thanks Stuart for a lovely video by the way which one was your favourite 🤔🤔
Sublime Stu! This place just looks like a dream! Brilliant images, as ever, and what amazing conditions. I don't think I'd know where to start with this place, but I'd be like a kid in a candy shop there🙂 S
Some cracking images there Stuart from what looks to e a fantastic location. Plenty of the white stuff too, could've done with more of that in the Lakes last weekend.🙄 Your videos might be a bit cobbled together but I like them like that and for the fact that the image comes first. Looking forward to part two buddy. Cheers.
I feel like I was stalking you. I am just back from my own photography trip to Lofoten. Like you it was right at the top of my bucket list. What a place. I'm still trying to process it all
I found myself in the Lofoten Islands in Feb 20, literally just as Covid was sweeping the globe. Unreal was my impression too; being driven down roads that looked impassable was totally bonkers but amazing. Not yet made it back. One day...thanks for sharing your experiences.
Very impressed Stuart with the location, your efforts to make a video for us to enjoy, and the superb shots you captured. Roll on part 2. Big thanks mate.
No wonder you were impressed, Stuart. From the vid it really comes across how superb and 'out of this world' the place is. Fantastic images as ever. Incredible all round. Thanks for your efforts in putting it together and sharing😊
Superb video Stuart, a great demonstration of your masterly landscape photography skills, and soooo good to see top quality original compositions from Lofoten.
What an amazing trip ! So many stunning areas and the pictures were out of this world ! Truly one of my biggest bucket list locations, can’t wait for part 2 !
Thanks mate appreciate that, to be honest the best stuff I’ve shot probably won’t make either video (or at least I didn’t shoot specific video around them) though there was so much to shoot it’s been easy enough to stick a couple of videos together. Highly recommend visiting as it’s not all that bad to get to either.
It looks breathtaking, Stu, but in all fairness, how easy was it for you to find an amazing composition in that winter wonderland? We all know there's far more to it than simply putting your tripod down completely randomnly and finding by chance you have a lovely composition. Could you easily get distracted by something that looked tempting at first glance, but on closer inspection the elements did not combine as well as you'd hoped? So working in these surroundings, contending with the extreme cold, did you find it required an extra level of concentration or no more so than shooting in your native Lake District? The images all looked superb and I'm sure the three of you had a fabulous time out there, but do you wished you'd stopped out there longer or was the length of your trip about right? Can't wait to see the next installment.
Thanks Ian, of course it’s not that simple and it’s not to be taken literally, just a reflection of the amazing surroundings - still have to work for the images like anywhere else. The only thing that’s ever a distraction is filming video, other than that the rest is autopilot, it’s what years of practice prepares you for.
Such incredible views and images. Thank you. I am wondering how to get there. During covid I started watching webcams of the villages up there. So cool!
Thanks Heather - not sure where you’re based though once at Oslo it’s reasonably straightforward, about 2 hours flying from there across 2 flights the way we did it.
great video Stuart when you see the conditions you were facing at times. Absolutely loved that hut image with the yellow trimming. I guess the temptation in being in a place with the options for composition is to run about grabbing as much as you can as opposed to be carefully selecting what you want to capture
Cheers mate, it certainly can be though I’ve been doing this far too long now to fall into that trap as it rarely yields the best results. We spent a good amount of time recce’ing these spots as you’ll see in the second video as if you don’t you end up chasing your tail in such a place.
Great stuff Stuart some wonderful compositions, I enjoyed your banter and explanations as to the conditions, I intend to do a similar trip over the next 10/12 months any help advice on accommodation and so forth would be invaluable.
Thanks Tom, best advice I’d give is base yourself near leknes for best access to the most locations, and don’t bother with a 4x4 they don’t add anything with all cars having studded tyres.
That was an impressive opening vlog from Lofoten, the drone sequence for the title really looked epic, I see why you were so impressed . Stunning images that took some work to achieve certainly not cheating , you made the effort to get there, really enjoyed this one , stunning!
Hi Stuart, i agree with you, most of the scenes look straight out of a film set. I can quite understand how the video gets sacked off as you'll be just like a kid in a sweet shop, albeit you need to wear proper thermals for sure. Nice to see the Z gear is holding up to what are obviously pretty arduous conditions .. and you too. Looking forward to part 2.
Thanks Ken - interesting question. I think there's parts of Lofoten where the challenge to a skilled/experienced photographer isn't all that great especially in favourable conditions like we had during our trip, but then that's true of many photogenic landscapes. The flip side was the images made around Eggum in the blizzards like the blue hut and many others that haven't made the vlogs (some of these are in part 2 tomorrow) were highly rewarding as you're unlikely to really have seen any of them from Lofoten before. So in that sense a lot of the shooting I did was very rewarding. What I actually got filmed was tiny slice of the 10 days to be honest.
Hi Stuart, enjoyed the video. From those locations it looks like you concentrated on the north side. Was that something that you had planned to do? We are going there on Tuesday for ten days and looking forward to it even more now. Fellow Seascale residents 👍
Hi Ian yeah we’d planned to shoot most of the stuff up that end, at the south there’s really only Hamnoy/Rheine at about an hour or so drive away and they’re a bit touristy for the type of stuff we all like to shoot in our group
Great video! Question…. Can anyone fly a drone there, or do you need to be licensed or something? I would love to go there some day, but I would love to get some drone shots.
