In this new astrophotography adventure I zoom in on Orion. I show you why it is my favorite star constellation by showing you its beauty from an extreme wide angle focal length of 14mm all the way to deep sky telescope range of 1300mm.
Orion is part of the winter circle asterism of stars. It's easily recognized by it's hourglass shape and by 3 bright stars in a row: Orion's Belt. You might also spot its orange star at the top left, Betelgeuse. At a dark location you can already see the brightest deep sky object in the night sky: The Great Orion Nebula (m42).
The constellation can be a great subject in your nightscape composition already using a 'regular' stock camera. If you photograph with an astro modified camera all the hydrogen alpha nebulae in the Orion Melocular Cloud Complex become visible. There are some great regions to capture like Barnards Loop and the Horsehead Nebula.
I also show you some deep sky images I made in the last couple of years with various telescope setups to reveal Orion's full potential.
