Hi Oliver, I'm a big fan of your work and guidance. Your tutorials are excellent and you make things easy to understand. I love the "learn how to fail better" approach.
Thank you very much for this wonderful and motivational comment Sean! Trying to fail better over time was and still is my way of progressing, I'm glad you may adapt that ;)
Awww, thak you very much Dot! Sometimes I get deep into processing but here the goal was to create as much as possible in camera - and I am very glad you like it Xx
What a great video my friend, nice presentation and informative tutorial. I can spend the whole day with these gear. Please keep it up and upload more videos.
Cool video, Oliver! I am going out this weekend yo shoot some wildlife and will keep these tips in mind! I have a Sigma 150 - 600 MM zoom and I am going to try this with it! ALSO!! I think I can smell the garlic!! Now I am hungry!!! I think a Pizza is in order! :-)
I just had my Pizza Gary :) I have that Sigma too and it will be even easier, for two reasons: First it has 200mm more focal length and second, it has a minimum focus distance of only 2.8m, compared to the 3.5m of my 400mm prime. Good luck hunting mate!
Oliver, I noticed when you changed from horizontal to vertical, you were able to just spin the camera body around. What type of mount do you use? I have an old Induro (which I like) but have to literally tip my camera over. Your method is a helluva lot easier!
Most telephoto lenses come with a tripod mount on the lens itself. This makes sense, because most of them are heavy and the center of gravity will be a long distance in front of the camera. These are usually detachable and allow the rotation of the entire camera/lens combination - which is what you have seen in the video. When I work with shorter lenses that don't have a tripod mount and I want to switch to portrait format, I'm using an L-Bracket. Then you don't have to switch your tripod head to a 90 degree angle. I hope that helps mate!
Hi Rob, the Tripod is a 4-Series Gitzo, the predecessor of this one here: amzn.to/3eLuZxj. The Ball Head is a NovoFlex CB5-II: amzn.to/3yaFdPK Hope that helps!
