Shirley, its so humble of you to do this video,,I respect big gurus that want to help others and I find its not every time you come across such videos, the greatest thing is when you can share your success story with others to inspire others,I have just started out and big shout to you,,am from London and its great on youtube to see empowering U.K divas like you rising, and showing off what we have here in the U.K. Thanks so much for this video, u inspire me!!MWAHHHH!!!
Now some successful RU-vidrs would say, 'Hell to the no, am I giving away all the tips & tricks I've learnt'. But not our Shirley. Honestly, I find your generosity of spirit so inspirational/humbling. You truly are something special.
Shirley, thanks for all of the inspiration and knowledge you provide. It's always refreshing to watch one of your videos or to read something you've posted on your blog. I think you're so professional and you put so much into what you do that I can really see you going very far in fashion and beauty (if that's what you want). I've not been a subbie that long, so I plan to take out one Saturday to just sit down and get caught up on all of you videos. I learn so much from you. Thanks!
I created a youtube channel less than three months ago, after severals verbal lickings from friends (their way of encouraging me) and posted about four videos as of today. One of your videos was listed on the side, watched it, now I'm hooked on your channel. Thanks for sharing all of you words of RU-vid wisdom.
This has to be one of the most informative videos I've ever seen! I love the fact that you've done up this video and it truly makes it feel like a community where we all help one another. I just started my own channel and it really helpful to have like a rough guideline to making vids of decent quality. Definitely looking forward to Part 3! =)
I've seen a lot of videos like this. Especially because I recently started out my own youtube channel. But this has been the most helpful and informative I've seen. You're so honest. All of this is just really REALLY helpful. And I really appreciate it.
Listening to you is already a "Treat". I love your manner of speaking & that's not just because you are speaking British English...mainly because you are presenting yourself TRUTHFULLY...not steering away from what you are actually passionate about & not what others expect on your Channel. Great Tips on putting with with RU-vid & LIFE IN GENERAL!
i always love watching your videos and also when i scroll down to read the comments almost everyone one of them has a reply! that takes dedication that i have never seen before on YT. please don't stop making videos :)
Woman i cant express how much your videos complete my day.. Honestly not just saying it but you really really inspire me on a whole new inspirational level lol. Hope you had a great day :) xx
oh my gosh shirley. your hair looks BEAUTIFUL here! And great photography tips. I love it too but unfortunately I find I never have the time really indulge myself in it. But your photos look amazing! Hopefully next year I'll have more time and possibly start a blog myself!! haha slowly slowly...
Shirley, you are seriously amazing! Can I adopt you as my older sister please? haha, but no really, I LOVE watching your videos so much and you are always so down to earth. That may sound incredibly cliche, but you are definitely the most "real" guru I have ever watched! Thanks for all the amazing advice, and please don't ever change!
love judy and benji!- spend my time doing nothing productive watching them doing nothing productive, so addictive :P always love your videos & a big thankyou for what you do :)
I think you're awesome! When I got into hair and fashion videos you were one of the first people I subscribed to. The lighting in your videos is always great. The lighting mixed with your positive personality makes your world appear to be perfect. I can't see why anyone would hate on you :-(. This video was very helpful I watched it from beginning to end all 19 minutes lol... You're a joy to watch xoxo
This was so kind of you. I learned a lot watching you. I appreciate so much that you are not jealous or petty about sharing good tips and how to's :) xoxo
Love it! You have inspired me once again. I've been in sort of a RU-vid posting rut and you've help to get me motivated again. THANK YOU Shirley! You really are awesome! :)
Thank you for the tips! I have been trying to muster up the courage to post a video on YT for ages and after watching your video, it has given me the motivation and courage to do so :) Thank you very much!
i love how REAL YOU ARE! its so inspiring. ive been loving ur vids since 2009(with my personal YT account) LOL my favourite vid was MY BF BLAZER, i fell inlove with the outfit coz i love blazers. ever since, all i do was press the LIKE button because i couldnt put any thing in proper words to explain how much i liked your attitude in your vids! i feel sooo gud watching ur vids. & yes! you put a lot of effort in ur info box. so i feel ur pain with the obvious questions :)) God bless xoxoxo
@Gennifur Thanks Jeniffer! :D I know what you mean about the flash. The diffuser should help a little, have you looked into specific speedlights? But yes, nothing beats natural light! lol! xo
Great tips! And I have been wondering how you get that sort of blurred look in the background and I finally have an answer! YAY! I was glued to the screen while watching this video. Love your channel!
Awww Shirley! Brill Video I lOVE YOUR HUMILITY!!! Its hard to find RU-vidrs who( know their good ) still remain humble intheir videos!! And thats what I LOVE about your channel! Keep the good work! God bless Xxx
This was very helpful!! I'm definitely going to try the 3 point lighting technique tonight, so thank you for that!! Your video reminded me when I reached 50 subscribers as well, and how excited I got!! I'm still excited about it!
I seriously couldn't live without my 50mm, I also love that it lets me film for longer as it lets in so much light! When people don't read the info box it just makes me wonder why did I even bother, especially when you also mention what they're asking in the video -__-
This was so helpful Shirley thanks I'm going to start saving for this camera and the extra lens it's worth it because I love the good quality and the amazing pictures
Thanks so much for making this video Shirley, it really helped, especially with the lighting. Also the personal things really helped as well. I'm quite a nervous and anxious but I really want to make videos, and you've really helped me out. Thanks so much. :) xxxxx
This was so great! I loved how you gave many alternatives and ideas. (like if you can't film during the day, have great lighting) I've just started my own channel recently and I found this very helpful. You were extremely informative. =]
haha, i just had a bit of fun revisiting your blog, looking for the remote.. but it helped me revisit your blog and i started reading it over again. Girlie i love your blog.
@junekanyi I know what it feels like to be scared, not being sure about how it's going to go, or how people will receive it, but the best advice I can give is, if you really want to do it, you've got to just go for it. Do it because it makes you happy, and enjoy it. The more you do, the less worried you'll be! :) xo
Love your accent!! Thanks for giving me the motivation to record my first RU-vid video! Hope the confidence follows over so I post it! God bless, continue being so real and candid :-)
You are so inspiring ! I wanted to start my own fashion channel for a while and didn't know what to do but I do now ! After this summer I'll start it,thank you Shirley -3
@AllThingsFabulous101 Aww Asia! Thank you so much for your sweet words! I look forward to watching such videos, if you do them! Thanks for also being an inspiration to me! xoxo
Aaaw thank you for answering my question Shirley! I feel sweet right now! Ha! I've been debating over starting a channel for aaages now. I think I might just go for it because I really think I will enjoy it :)
Thankyou so much for talking about photography and the apature and all that good stuff! i love your videos! i have been asking many pple what they do and i havent gotten any response :/ i am always looking to improve my channel and little details/tips like that really help me out! Keep doing your thing and thank you so much for sharing! i will now go read some photo info and Play with my camera!! :D
I just subscribed to ur RU-vid channel about a week ago....I truly enjoy ur vids. Love ur style!! Keep up the good work. Loved ur advice on starting a YT channel. I'm playing catch up, trying to watch 3 years of videos. I went to sleep at 1230 watching ur channel. Gotta get some rest!!^_^
Shirley, this video was great! Amazing tips/advice. I'm into photography as well. Lighting is my enemy it seems. I love using natural lighting and it makes me sad when I have no choice but to use the flash. I've invested in a diffuser but I'm still unhappy with the result. Oh well! I've been a subscriber for about a year and I love when I see a new video from you in my Sub list. You're amazing! -Jennifer
@MdreamingofC Oh really? Welcome!! :D Thanks! I think there's a little icon on the mobile web page where you can subscribe! Not entirely sure though! Lol! xo
luv ur humility Shirley... i'm thinking of starting my own channel as well but more relevant to Jamaica (thats where i live). U r very inspiring. Thanx for the videos *blessings*
Hey Shels, I. LOVE.YOU. lol. thanks for this, i'm one of those pple that has been on YT forever but is terrified to make vids, so this helps. REQUEST: in "Answers 3" can you talk about keeping up with trends (hauls) without going broke. I find that a lot of u gurus shop a lot and i often wonder how u all are able to do this while keeping up with ur other financial commitments :) Thank u!!!
I wish I would have come across this vid before sending you a message on your bday vid regarding your filming device! Thanks a million for the information. Super helpful! :-)
Also liked your point on lighting, ive done alot of modelling and also learnt a few tricks,,lighting like you say can be a pain it gets dark at 3 or 4pm making it impossible to film during the day..A great solution is to invest in a photography light that produces 5100K daylight output,They are amazing, they look like this i bought one with three light bulbs inside so u can adjust the light..its a STUDIO-PHOTO-VIDEO-DYNASUN-CY1200WTRIO, the best thing since sliced bread lol!
lovely vid as always Shirley, I actually remember your first few videos, I think it was a tutorial of how to style a hair quiff or something lol. You've come a really long way. BTW, your hair is lovely and I also think it would look nice if it was shoulder length (in this exact style). (cover half of the video with your hand to see what i mean lol).xxx
