Thank you very much for the mention and thank you for joining us with the charity drive. It was a pleasure to have you on and thank you for your help and continued support!
Another excellent job; thorough and comprehensive yet succinct. Man, I wish we had this stuff when I was growing up and a teacher like you to show me what’s what. On another note, millions of us, if not hundreds of millions, across the pond are wishing our Aussie friends a speedy and complete recovery - however optimistic that may be - from the hellacious fires and now floods made worse by the apparent denuding of forests and other vegetation. Good luck and good health.
So excited that mono LCDs are finally becoming a thing, much faster, better real resolution and longer lasting LCD screens. I hope the pricing and LCD replacements aren't too expensive, I imagine they don't get the same economies of scale that they do using phone and tablet screens.
also remember that the transform will strip the resin profile out of Chitubox zip files. So remember to set up resin profiles through the wifi/web connect.
I’m sure you know, but you can now purchase a monochromatic LCD for the Transform. I guess that’s why it’s called the transform. I’d love too see a review on that upgrade. I really do love all your work. Please keep it up. 🤜🏼🤛🏼🇦🇺🍀🍀🍀😎🤓🐇
Another great video Michael! Though I'll never be able to afford something like that, it is still amazing to me to see such awesome printers doing great prints! I'll stick with my little Ender 3 Pro for now. LOL Once again, my condolences to you and everyone one in Australia dealing with those awful fires.
4K and 8K LCD screens will be quantum leaps for 3D printing. There's an 13.3" 8K screen coming to market later this year. That would be a large format printer with double the resolution of this machine. Was thinking of getting a Form 3L but it wouldn't be able to hang with this new tech.
leveling the bed while it is in the vat is a bit more difficult that removing the vat and using a sheet of paper between the platen and screen. I prefer having the vat removed when leveling the build plate.
Anyone else need a square print bed? I was just looking at buying one of these this weekend. The main drawback for this to me is the rectangular footprint. I'm really looking forward to a resin printer that has a circular footprint >200mm diameter (or a 200x200mm square) so that it can print lithophane lampshades!
@@TeachingTech yes, the only option I've been able to find is the Peopoly Moai 200, but it's out of stock most places which means it's either selling better than expected, or it will soon be discontinued which will make it hard to find replacement parts. I have to wait a while to make sure it's the former. Thanks for the great review!
I still see print lines!! I'll spend an extra $1500, and get zero print lines every time, although with a much smaller print area. Thanks for sharing, I really appreciate it.
I thought retailers only got testing units and wouldn't receive their stock till all the backers received their pledge. I'm still waiting for my pledge to be fulfilled, and I was told by Phrozen's sales team that it's due to production delays. So unfortunately this video shed some light on more than the just the specs of the machine. I'm sure my order will be fulfilled at some point, but I'm not thrilled with how Phrozen has treated their Backers.
This printer doesn't have the mono LCD, the Sonic Mini I previewed at the end does. Just for the record I haven't tested the switching panels, and it costs more to get them.
If its like the Shuffles, its a tempermental beast & a lot of users experience problems getting the machine running again after replacing parts like the LCD (which has been my experience with the XL)
I just wasted 362 US dollars on a Creality CR 10 V2 that won't turn on for some reason or another so now I'm going to invest in buying this for 2,249 US dollars hopefully it won't fail to turn on
Please don’t use their information that states that the 5.5” panel can be switched in 30 seconds. They changed the design so now it’s closer to a 5-10 minute switch. Not bad but not as advertised.
Michael, great review, made me anxious to get mine bought when introduced on Kickstarter, setup and running. I wasn’t real happy when Phrozen revealed that due to some unspecific issues they weren’t going to be releasing the system as advertised with the quick-swap screens but due to my work schedule attempting to get all my contract obligations done before Rotator Cuff repair surgery I’ve yet to take it out of the box. Unfortunately, they STILL haven’t released the dual 5.5” screen option yet (or at least they haven’t shipped the one I purchased) but hopefully in another two months when I can use my Rt. arm again I’ll have those parts in hand to use. Companies like Phrozen really need to hire good multilingual Tech folks to convey product design changes in a native language since (at least with me) they had me “flying-off-the-rails” on the release of the revelation that the screen changes were NOT going to be done as DESIGNED, but weren’t clear due to language structure that they actually would still be ABLE to but not disrupting my intended manner of its use. As it turns out, a one-time 30-min procedure to ADD the 5.5” screens and an operating system change in the form of a SD card swap & reboot being required to use the smaller screens enables the advertised functions to be accomplished. (At least that’s what’s been advertised at this point but until I receive the parts and have the time to perform the procedures required on my “turn-key fully-functional” product I thought I was backing/buying, that are required to make it fully functional) Time will tell. Keep up the good work!
Beginner question: * Do the resin prints get any discoloration overtime? (years) * Does this material get brittle overtime or does the material change in any way? I would like to know if it's safe to sell a printed item like that, and not to worry if the printed item would fade or break after years. Thanks!
Phenom Vs Transform, what's better, heard the Transform units tend to have more problems that Phenom and Phenom printers have problems in the shipping department, some get banged up.
Seems like a good machine, but boy oh boy, are the consumables expensive. I take it, it doesn't have power failure recovery so a failed print would be an expensive fail. Personally I'd like something in the middle - a volume close to a prusa Mk3 with emphasis on quality.
Hi I'm a total resin printing noob but very excited to get into it. What is the curing process on these models? From what I can tell they are cured in the machine, but they need to be cured in sunlight afterwards? For how long? Thanks!
Nice review. I noticed that Formware slicer and it has a Floor Structure so you could layer prints to really fill the build volume. Did you see that feature with-in the Transform version?
What is the strength of prints? For example, if you printed a belt clip to hold something on your belt, it will be flexed at the curve portion many times. Can the printer create long lasting products such as a belt clip that can be sold?
It comes down to the resin used. Typical model resin is super brittle. If you drop something, it shatters. This ABS like Phrozen resin can withstand drops for most models, and they make engineering and flexible resins too. Hopefully I'll be testing those in the future.
One of the biggest things people worry about when purchasing a resin machine is the possible health affecting odour. I'm sorry but I can't recall you mentioning this. Does it smell bad? Do you need to use it outside the house? Sorry if I completely missed this part, I kept waiting for it :)
This like any other resin printer has hazards around resin fumes. There are no features on this to make it more or less safe than any other printer. I have a resin workflow video in the works but in the meantime check out this one from Makers Muse: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7kHcsTG9QsM.html
Might seem like a dumb question, but without shielding the UV array from the rest of the internals, isn't there a chance of desegregation of the parts due to UV exposure over time (brittle wires and sheathing for example)?
The UV used is quite low power UVA, since the printers are based on the technology used by dentists to set the photosensitive resin used in tooth repairs. While there would be some very long term degradation, it would be nowhere near the kind off effect seen in sunlight. A much bigger issue with SLA printers is LCD panel failure due to temperature.
Broken prints can be fixed with a drop of resin and a UV flashlight. What about air filtration and fume filters? Those Phrozen resins are very expensive.
Great tip on the fixing. It has a desiccant bay to pull moisture from the chamber but no filters that I know of. It is compatible with 3rd party resins so you're not locked in to particular brand.
Ok I was mega stumped, then worked it out. It seems I accidentally had this model: www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-vampire-castle-102867 sitting in the same place as the moon city. They blended together perfectly somehow!?
Does anyone know if this type of machines can be used in engineering? Like printing mechanical parts for prototypes. I ask because most of the time I see the reviews, they are about printing characters from games, movies and what not. I understand the level of detail is awesome but for mechanical design it requires certain amount of precision.
Ron Ventura I read or saw a video saying that it helps with the longevity of the lcds and has somewhat higher resolution, perfect for doing a whole chess set of miniatures.
there is an indiegogo for an affordable large resin printer called space3d that's just a 'lil smaller than this one at 10.1" but less than half the price of this and the peopoly, personally i'm a bit skeptical because it sounds a bit too good to be true but msla printers are so simple mechanically from a manufacturing standpoint i don't see why that couldn't work
I'm using the Prusa SL1 currently, and cured resin prints don't seem to experience shrinkage after curing. I'm still testing though, and I'll keep this in mind.
Hi People, Just to Update you, I have to make it Clear, to you I had Problems with www.3dprintersonlinestore.com when Ordering the Transform & not 3D Printers Online. I am very sorry for causing any problems to 3D Printers Online. I was not aware there is another Company, with the Similar Name, just called 3D Printers Online, so please forgive the Error. I hope this helps you all & sorry again. I am New to Dealing with these Compaines. Thanks I will Update you, when I Receive my Transform & also I will do a Video as a Private User, with my thoughts. I really want to like resin but the resin being toxic af and the whole "no light on the resin but a lot of light to cure on the prints and for the love of God you better own 55 gallons of IPA" thing absolutely isn't mine
Jesus man, did even one of your prints run successfully without any issues? It seems like almost every single one of the prints had something go wrong with it, whether it be inclement weather, puppies multiple times, tainted resin, improper set up/not hollowing out the models, etc. I mean I really don’t care that much, but it makes this review kind of useless because we don’t really get to see the printer at its full potential.
I have this machine and prints as big as the Deadpool bust at .05mm will take about 25 hours. I printed a 3/4 Baby Yoda that was 11.5 inches tall that took 27 hours. Overall the print qaulity is very good but since it's DLP and not SLA round surfaces will need a bit of sanding and filler primer.
