I hate shoulder pads and I hate that people bought them back in style for a little while in recent years lol, but BAYBEE, when I say NOBODY could wear some shoulder pads and make them look like Phyllis made them look. She was always so regal and graceful. Anyone else would look gaudy and overdone with the shoulder pads, statement jewelry, and hat, but she just... She was the prime example of wearing a fit and not letting it wear you. That's pure style and you either have or you don't.

Her voice was haunty and her lyrics told how she felt. She was broken hearted. I love you Phyllis Hyman. REST IN PEACE!

Why can’t the sister in the industry today get along like that? Because the ladies here really have talent and know they have talent and respect each other’s talent.

She suffered from Bipolar Depression and she stopped taking her medication because she didn’t like the way it made her feel. I have a family member who suffers from the same disorder. It’s very difficult to deal with both for the person who has it and other family members and friends. Its heartbreaking. Miss her so much, so beautiful and so talented.

I remeber the time when you were hangin out at Sweetwaters and you were havin such a good old time and dreessed to thr 9s as usual. I was so excited to see you sitting at the table and just being happy. Every Wednesday Sweetwaters had a showcase of semi and well established singers, a no pretentious place where sometimes you might find Miss Patti or Will Downing or Toni Braxton among others from the industry hangig then some (most the) times steppin up to the mic and SANG. Got to photograph Phyllis one night at the Blue Note through an agency l was working with. Its a TINY place in the Village so it was very personable. Her voice was mesmerizing. Phyllis talked and ki kied w/the audience b/w numbers of her two sets and at one point because she didn't have time to eat before, she walked her way over to Some man and talked with him and asked him if she could sample one of the buffalo wings that was just brought out to him. He obliged. Needles to say, the images were off the chain. All black & white and I'll remember that evening for ever ever.....Miss Phyllis Hyman 💕..

I've been too many many concerts. Through out the years, that blow me away but WOW! I can't find the words to describe my experience.RIHeaven Angel!

I remember seeing both of them in concert(at different times)..Phyllis whistling like a flute and Patti singing without a microphone...Simply AMAZING!!

If you were to see Phyllis and how flamboyant and outgoing she was when she appeared a surprise to Patti it's hard to believed she was so depressed to the point of suicide.

I wish the female artist of today would be like this towards each other.
