The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Yep unfortunately!! And just a patsy, Oswald, was blamed instead of the CIA (who also used the Mob and Cuban anti-Castro expats) the FBI - Hoover, LBJ, the Texas oil barons, the Mossad-all found to be involved. A big coup d’etat by crossfire in broad daylight!! A real tragedy and injustice! The start of the decline of the American Constitutional republic and a complete, government takeover by murderous criminals in every sector of government along with the banksters and big corporations!!!😢💔😡

Ooo No. Too fast. She has a good voice but Frank Sinatra sings this song with feeling and meaning. Different tastes I suppose.

While not 'my favorite' version of the tune, I like it! Two observations: 1) it's rendered here in Bossa Nova tempo, one of the last major popular 'Latin' dance crazes to go international before the British Invasion definitively swept traditional pop from center stage. The 1963 viewer would have heard this as a very up to date take on what was then nearly a 20 year old tune. 2) traditional pop singers of that period all drew from the well of 'standards' and distinguished their renditions by altering the tempo from the B'way original, and by using distinctive arrangements (which this one certainly is). As a 'jazz guy,' I used to have this (friendly) argument with a dear friend (a musical theater director and critic) often. It drove him nuts when pop and jazz singers 'strayed' from the original composer's intent by 'altering the tempo,' scat singing, etc. While I "understand" that perspective , Phyllis (for example) isn't performing this tune in the confines of a theater production, she's offering her individual interpretation in what is effectively a nightclub setting. It's a showcase for her versatility as a solo vocalist, and I think she nailed it.

@@impsrule60 I hear what you are saying, and fully understand your take on her version of this great song. I myself have never been too keen on this jazz style, kind of mixing up a usually laid back song that to me magically suits the voice of one of my favourites of all time Frank Sinatra. But she is definitely putting her style on it and I'm sure it appeals to many.
