Piaggio Fly died on me! Problem solved! | Mitch's Scooter Stuff 

yeah. had Sv650 as first bike and followed by daytona 675, CB400. went to Cambodia and hired a scooter, its fun in its own way. now im getting a scooter as a second bike. so much easier to ride around :P

Sure for long trips on the open road, a motorcycle is great. For going around a city and to the shops. A scooter is great. All good in their own way. I agree..

I went from Northampton, England to Galashiels, Scotland (~300 miles) on a 2002 air cooled Vespa ET4 125. The seating position of a scooter is well suited to long distance riding, they're just a bit slow, but definitely not too slow.

Hi ive noticed my piaggio fly with the same engine has the same crack on the manifold, is there anything I can do to fix this other than rebuilding the whole engine

Pretty much all the Piaggio LEADER engines from before 2004 as well as air cooled have these shitty intake manifolds, which tend to crack all the way through on one side where the material is thinnest, causing a vacuum leak. In most cases, the engine may fire a tiny bit as it turns over but it will not start. I have had 3 air cooled Piaggio scooters and each one has had the same problem with the intake manifold. Luckily they are easy to replace for cheap. You can use caulk to temporarily seal the cracks, but it will not work long term

@@gabrielwalker421 Oh yeah tell me about it! I tried with 2- part epoxy resin and it failed pretty much instantly. I have a new idea/product I'm hoping will work better next time if in an emergency. 2 part epoxy putty! This stuff is much stronger and designed to seal burst plumbing pipes. Apparently it sets under water though I've never tried, however, I did use it to essentially re-weld an exhaust heat guard mount tab back to the exhaust by wrapping it around. Admittedly, the stuff eventually broke away but still acts as a kind of filler/cushion ensuring that the exhaust guard doesn't flap back n forth on the remaining two screws/tabs. So I'm confident that it could silence an exhaust hole for quite a long time if you wrapped it the whole way around. I'm actually using the stuff as one of the main materials for a 2-stroke hobby engine I've built and wondering if I could make a complete replacement piaggio inlet manifold out of it too by making some moulds.

That's right with the heat of the engine and pulling the hoses the rubber will not be so flexible and it won't seal like it use to do. You can cut a piece off or change the whole damn thing..

is the fly 150 2013 model carb or efi guys?

Did you find out what the problem is? Mine also uses ~5L/100K. Just bought it second hand. A mechanic told me it could be the auto-choke is staying open therefore running rich all the time. Makes sense, but the wiring loom the choke part is connected to seems inaccessible.

The problem with mine was the petrol vacuum valve. When flat out the vacuum wasnt enough to keep the 'petcock' fully open so the engine cut off due to fuel starvation, soon as you closed the throttle the vacuum increased and the fuel flowed again. Scooter would run OK flatout [55mph] for about 1 minute then just die, easing back on the throttle would let it run again. hope this helps .

Hy Raj, i had a problem with my vespa sprint - it wasn t starting at all, the problem was the petcock

The tubes are made of some kind of rubber material, which can become brittle over time

I'm in Florida so I guess stoping by is out of the question. I rode it on and off. About once every couple of weeks. This time I went about 2 months without riding it. Put fresh gas in it. It will crank for about 5 seconds and then shut off. It has less than 3000 miles on it. @@MitchsScooterStuff

Thanks a lot I just got Piaggio fly 50cc 2017 . It is really a good one Thanks a lot for your recommendation . My Piaggio fly according to the law in Germany where I live is not allowed to drive faster than 50k which makes it a bit difficult to over take sometimes. Do you know a way to make it drive a bit faster? I don't want to break the rules, but it is really dangerous sometimes in Berlin streets for me especially when I want to over take.

Are you aware that both Piaggio and Vespa along with Gilera, Derbi and Moto Guzzi are in fact the same company? I cannot say for sure but I think the chances of the them using different hoses for Piaggios and Vespas is pretty unlikely.
