You guys make a great instructional video, it was just a pleasure to watch! ☺ I'm 66 and still fiddling about with scooters and other two strokes, mainly veterans. But my son has a Zip that got scored, so he's putting on the same Malossi sport cylinder. Already had the same exhaust, Leo Vince. So he was over the hill when I sent him a link to this video.. A very professional video production, and you blokes are entertaining. Thanks !

I've been pretty experienced tuning small 2 strokes with manual gearboxes. And I got myself my first ever scooter a couple months ago and it's been really hard for me to tune my rollers, clutch bla bla. This video is definetly very informative about how this stuff works. I am confident that I again can take upon the challange and get this thing running like it should.

The inlet plate in the carburettors mouth (brass plate) is not a restrictor, it’s actually serving its purpose delivering air flow into the right areas of the carb through the air holes. Often people believe it’s restricting the flow of air, but after performance parts get the jetting right with this little plate still in you will be onto a winner👍🏻 try with and without you’ll notice the sharper response and reliability from keeping the plate as is

Reminds me of the old days. One day i walked up to the nearest motorshop i always got my stuff. Walked up to that guy and asked him that i was looking for a Polini EVO 70CC for Piaggio. Back then the kit to have (15+ years ago or so). I saw his eyes grow and the next thing he said to me "What the Heck do you need that Kit for??" i imediatly realised i was not going to get that Kit at that time. His reaction on my question was priceless, something i have never forgotten. :) At some point i ended up having the desired kit and it was great fun. Just dont get caught when you run it in the streets.

does the piaggio zip have the same engine as the aprilia sr50 2019?
@scooterstreetau
@scooterstreetau 3 года назад
You probably noticed apart from the water cooling system on the SR50R, the base of the 2 engines are the same. You will notice between the Piaggio/Aprilia 2T models they look the same but each model has a different transmission length to accommodate the rear wheel, this includes each model running a different belt size to connect variator to the rear pulley.
@scooterstreetau
@scooterstreetau 3 года назад
I believe 2019 SR50R has the new Euro 4 emissions system also, which uses a different carburettor, stator, coil and CDI/ECU. It also has the larger temp sensor on the head, and the solenoid air valve for the electronic control of the carb.

We had cops stopping you randomly where they were standing near a random road with a portable speedometer to check 😫 they confiscated it to give you permition like a month or god knows how long to pick it back but with all the illegal parts removed for you by their own pissed off mechanic if you catch the drift lemme go check your ig out peace!

Just to be fair, I have enjoyed thoroughly the video and brought fond memories back :) Just to point out when you talk about "this isn't ideal to go super fast" perhaps you ought to know that there is a quite active racing scene where these little buggers go up to 160 Km/H
@scooterstreetau
@scooterstreetau 3 года назад
Thank you, and yes we are aware of the Zip race series. Are the race Zips the SP water cooled version? This one is air cooled base model version.
@LucaFiltroMan
@LucaFiltroMan 3 года назад
@@scooterstreetau Absolutely correct, the SP is the water cooled one, but to the best of my knowledge it should be possible to convert any version to liquid cooling: the only hiccup would be with the clearances in the leg shield trim, as there's a storage compartment that would interfere with the radiator's positioning. For the sake of honesty though, I'm not going to vouch about the accuracy of the info, it's something I recall from when the SPs where just hitting the market in Italy some 10+ years ago
@scooterstreetau
@scooterstreetau 3 года назад
@@LucaFiltroMan We have done this conversion. We took an air cooled Zip and fitted the Radiator with electric water pump, cooling hoses and the water cooled racing cylinder along with many other tuning parts. We also changed the front panel and fitted a genuine SP front cover so the incoming air could meet the radiator. The performance was as you described, Ridiculous power!! This was an expensive project... We lalso did the Superman theme custom paint job and it did fly🤣🤣.

Really enjoyed the explanations and video. Wanted to ask is there a needle position that needs to be changed or just changing the main jet? Also Iv seen other engine building videos with cars they don’t use oil in piston or cylinder they use WD40 because it lubricates it until the heat burns it off to commence breaking in between rings and cylinder. Lastly I was in Thailand and saw someone rebuild a 125 2 stroke he disconnected the oil feed to the cylinder to break in the rings initially have you heard or seen this done?

The main jets 88 in the end, skip the video to 52:00 for a run down. After 2 weeks we followed up with a systems check, we finished the carby with an 85 main JET, Needle is an A22 Middle notch.] For the WD40 question, 4 stroke system is different, the 2 stroke system has oil and fuel in combustion so it might be best to run with oil...

I will try a 88 jet tomorrow. And also order a weight kit. I already have a jet kit. I also have a malossi fly clutch with bell i have to put on. But thinking i had to run in the new malosssi cylinder first? Thanks for this video much appreciated ❤❤💯💯
@scooterstreetau
@scooterstreetau 9 месяцев назад
Well done! and a great achievement to have a go, I am sure it will be a success. With the basics, only ever change one part at a time, cylinder first then a quick start, then start the jetting. Start at your 96 and then move down to the 92-90-88 and when it becomes clean on throttle go back up 1 jet and ride it for a fuel tank and then retune. Yes you will notice the revs and movement may not be at their peak so leave the rollers and just add tighter clutch springs or the Mal clutch. and then again test ride and let it settle, adjust as necessary. Then repat with the next part and so on🚀

Hi Jay, Thank you👍 Always a good idea to have the scoot running well first. If there are any issues, correct them before proceeding. Is the Leo derestricted? Is the engine spluttering or does it slowly loose power? Move the needle to the middle notch, Try the 60 Main jet. Report back👍

Great video guys , question please, my son has a gilera storm, had all the 70cc mods , plus gear up kit etc , also unrestricted coal, cdi, and lots more , the question is the main jet in his 17.5 carb same carb as you have shown in your video is only a 56 , and you have used a 88 , all the work on our bike was done at a scooter shop , have they forget to change the main jet ? Or do you think a 56 jet is ok on a 70cc. Hope you can help us , many thanks !
@scooterstreetau

In our experiences, if we did not make the change to the main jet the engine would sustain damage due to overheating, lean on the fuel mixture. It is always hard to comment on others work so ultimately best to check with the installer of the parts, they may have upgraded the jet or had a suitable reason not too.

Hey Alixglow, whatever works for you and what your riding style is, so go for it. Good to hear your comments. We would apply a stiffer clutch spring set to delay the engagement of the clutch. Some of the race brands have designed a HIT clutch which allows the rev to build and then the clutch will engage to boost the initial acceleration. If you have less tension on the clutch springs the clutch will be engaging at idle, have seen this many times before.

Hey Guys! Would you be so kind to specify (stiffness/ rpm) the clutch springs you’ve ended up installing? Color codes are sosososo different from brand to brand. Are they the blue ones from the Malossi MHR spring kit? Thank you for your recommendation on the exhaust, I’ve got the Yasuni R 💪🏻☺️ So right now we have the 70 MHR replica, 22 phvb, and the yasuni. Which color would you recommend to opt for from the delta clutch kits (white, green, yellow/red blue black)? Can’t decide between the yellow or red ones. They both target 6-8000 rpm in the manual, but the red ones are stiffer. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for the help and the amazing support for the community
@scooterstreetau
@scooterstreetau 2 года назад
In this video we installed the blue leo vince springs on this particular bike. The TT and Malossi Sport cylinder make a fair bit of torque down quite low in the rev range so the springs didn't need to be drastically increased. On your bike with the parts you've mentioned, I would aim for around the 6k rpm engagement. The MHR Rep is a great street cylinder because it offers a fair bit more performance than the Sport kit - but in a much lower rev range than a race kit. Its making really good torque around the 6k rpm, much more than that will more than likely lead to clutch glazing and then slipping. You'd really only go for more than 7k rpm engagement on a bridge port race kit which needs big rpm to make power. We often preference the Polini G3, the adjustability is quite user friendly, but the Delta is also a great clutch.

Thank you very much for the time and effort that went into this video. Very well explained and through this i also found another video for what was causing issues for me, worn Minarelli torque driver. If you don't mind me asking, how exactly do you go about tuning for the best clutch spring / roller weights ? I have spent alot of time trying to figure it out but it just doesn't come together. I know that lighter rollers mean that the transmission holds a higher rpm while you accelerate, heavier rollers the opposite. You also mentioned marking the variator to check if the belt rises all the way up. Would you also use roller weights to adjust this or do the rollers just adjust how quickly it rises and don't affect its final height? Thanks for your help in advance and all the best
@scooterstreetau
@scooterstreetau 3 года назад
We have several other videos that give an explanation of the variator tuning, check them out. VARIATOR: With everything set at factory as a good starting point, go back to your original rollers, if they are 7.5 grams we have a total of 6 rollers weighing 45 grams total. So we want to lighten the rollers by 1 gram each, let's try the 6.5 grams (total of 39 grams). Marking the variator face prior to closing the clutch cover (which we can check the belt travel after the testing). Now test ride and note the difference. Just repeat this step and reduce the amount of weight change, by this I mean try a .5 gram change or even a .25 gram change for each roller. Your looking for a higher RPM earlier and a continued PULL as the variator changes through the gears. CLUTCH: The clutch can be set using a higher tension clutch spring set. Many of the Manufacturers have a chart to guide you on the tension of the clutch springs with an RPM engagement chart. So just go for around 5000RPM. This will delay the initial movement as the clutch engages. Remember to revisit the roller weight so the RPM stays optimal and does not dive through the gear change. Patience is the key and also document the weight change and the resulted changes you experienced and the test rides. Hope this helps and thanks for supporting our Channel.👍

You need to make sure you order the correct parts for the NRG. Some exhaust manufacturers make exhausts that fit all Hiper2 engines (Zip, Typhoon, NRG ect..) and some have specific fitments per model. For instance, Leo Vince make a specific exhaust for the NRG, which is slightly different to the Zip. The cylinder kits are obviously also quite different due to air cooled vs liquid cooled.
