Frédéric, thanks for all your work on converting Pianobook libraries to Decent Sampler format. I'm on Linux (I'm the lead author of the open source, cross-platform DAW Ardour (also the basis for Mixbus)), and it has opened up a new world of libraries for users on this platform. Fantastic stuff. But I just wanted to let you know that even though Labs instruments are gratis, they are not libre, and more specifically, they are not available for people that use Linux. It's not a big deal, but it does make some of your pairings of DS+Labs here invoke a little sadness that we can't get such lovely timbres.
Hi Paul! Thank you for your message! I'm sorry to hear about LABS instruments not available on Linux platform. Maybe you should try to ask on the new Spitfire forum if a Linux LABS plugin is something in the pipeline or not :)
Hmm... with the latest wine-staging 7.10, and yabridge 3.8.1, Spitfire LABS works just fine in Ardour 6.9 on my Xubuntu 22.04 machine. Unfortunately, soon as I loaded DecentSampler, Ardour crashed. Looks like it's time do do some debugging and see if I can't catch some forensic detail for you. :)
Do you have suggestions in the way of this? I'm interested in string vsts. One of the downsides that prevents me from using Ardour is how it doesn't behave well with pipewire and so my midi devices need to be selected and routed within Ardour. Huge pain when you have to do this on 2 diff spots, 1 within Ardour every day. Anyway great work on Ardour and I hope you and other contributors keep it up. I would like to be able to use it, that's just the one thing holding me on Reaper for this
GREAT job on the layering of the various instruments, a joy to listen too. Thanks for sharing, planning to check these out right away. I am just beginning to get into music development, thus, these videos are very helpful.
Great video, and since you ask, pianobook now being so huge, I would love a guide to the best folk based instruments. Strings, plucked and bowed, accordions, harmonium and percussion etc. Thanks.
Merci!!!
A Really Great Approach!!! Sensitiveness & Creativity seem to be a mainly part of your skills... last but not least, huge thank's to all the pianobook creators & team too!
So much goodness 😭 for free... the only thing I wish there was is a free way to make a sample library instrument...I wanted to make an instrument with vocal samples of my daughter's lovely clear voice.
I just want a "Decent" Piano... Right now I don't need a Slide Uke made out of Dead Chicken Bones Tin Cans Duc Tape and Barbwire... maybe later. I want to find just a PIANO... Yes... there are beautiful Pads... which at one time were harder to find. I so appreceate using DecentSampler as a Drag&Drop Host... So nice.
there's something that doe'nt work for me with the pitch shift trick in cubase, i have change to the semitones desired but somehow i don't have the sound you have, is there any particular tool you would recommend for pitch shifting in cubase ? Because the one interated is really bad and seems to consume a lot of computer energy... Did you made that pitch change directly on decent Sampler ? Would love to have an answer :) Also how did you merged all those tracks in one ? is this something specifically related to decent sampler that you did ? Great video btw :)
Incredible strings layers sound at the end. Could you show us how to do that for ourselves please? Do you need the ESX sampler? Thanks so much for this demo!
All you need is LABS Strings (download it for free on Spitfire Audio website) and Soft String Spurs, available for DecentSampler on Pianobook website, so you won’t need EXS or Kontakt to use these samples!
@@frpoirier Thank you. At around 9:15 you describe a layering technique of pitching up/down and transposing to -4, -7, +4 keeping also the original and layering them using the modwheel control. Can you point us to a guide on the specific steps needed to perform this technique please? Thank you!
Sure! I have 1TB of storage in my MacBook Pro (a quite expensive option at the time, but it worth it) and a 1TB USB-C SSD SanDisk Extreme. I keep everyday samples/libraries on the internal drive, and the more heavy/exotic libraries on the external drive, e.g. BBCSO Core on the internal, BBCSO Pro on the external drive.
