Oscar is doing very well, very professional and quick. Lando has been significantly quicker in the races and a bit unfair to say Oscar was close in Monaco when Lando saved tyres for Q3 only to be held up by Charles and had to abort. Charles three place penalty helped Alpine and not Mclaren. Such is life. If he hadnt have been held up Lando would have been faster as the track was getting quicker. I like Daniel a lot, but his fanbase were unbearable when the news came out that he'd be dropped. Oscar of course took the full brunt of that especially on social media. The fact that he's been able to brush his critics to one side and perform the way he has just doubles-down on the fact that he has exactly what it takes to succeed in F1. Hopefully with the changes McLaren are making within their staffing structure and their recent appointments, that will convert to a more competitive car as Lando and Oscar deserve a much better machine than what they've got right now.
@FishEyess
@FishEyess Год назад
"his fanbase were unbearable" I think you're just seeing the wrong side of it. Most of the comments i have seen regarding Daniel leaving was actually quite positive & supporting of Oscar. Most of F1's fanbase is unbearable as the majority of the newer fans are drama farming and if their favourite driver isn't winning, then nobody can be happy. The real people that were the issue are the Daniel or Oscar haters, and alot of people regardless of if Daniel was their favourite driver, felt the need to jump to his defence. This also goes with Max haters, and Lewis haters. Anyone that actively hates on other drivers are the problem in the sport, i am a big Daniel fan but i am completely happy that another Aussie is now in the sport & I wish him all the best as he was clearly the right choice. It's a shame to see that his "fanbase" now has a bad representation for the minority of the comments that have been seen by others, whereas here down under i have seen nothing but love for both drivers.

In Monaco, Lando's been 2 tenths up before Leclerc hampered him, and mighty fast in free practice sessions. I think the 0.018 s doesn't quite tell the full story and Piastri still has a way to go to get to Norris's level. Then again, you could argue Lando didn't get to Q3 because of hitting the wall and damaging the suspension, so fair enough, but the speed gap is still there. Give Oscar a few more races and they will be the strongest driver pairing on the grid together with the Merc duo.

I got the impression that DR wasn't quite backed or given the support he needed after a short while at Mclaren initially. Zak Brown seemed to just not fancy him. That said his win at Italy is above what Lando has been able to give McLaren. He wasn't able to get to grips with the car consistently, looked burnout and indifferent after a while and was coasting. He needed this break away and I'm sure DR will return stronger. Piastri has quietly made a good start and thankfully he's not getting too much attention. I can’t think of another driver who rode the fumes of his past success for as long as DR has. The fact some people think he could outperform Checo at RB now reflects that. @maxy8007
@maxy8007 Год назад
@takatszsolt9740 that response is from an uneducated tabloid point of view. The telemetry and full team radio radio dialogue suggests a different tale. An experienced race winner manages his pace when in front to mitigate risk what is exactly what ric was doing. Lando asked to race but was denied to avoid incident. By asking to race does not mean he is going to beat him as you imply. You also see Dan put in the fastest lap of the race on the last lap which clearly demonstrates he could do more if required. Lando had his chance at race victory later that year and fluffed it under pressure. His team radio was all nerves. Look what happened today in Barcelona he buckled under pressure in third place and crashed. Certainly not a race winner yet and better get a move on before Piastri nails him. They would have I think. Ric had 2 seasons with McLaren and constantly underperfromed (dropped q1 when Norris reached q3 many times, he fighted at the bottom, when Norris almost always got points, etc.) If Piastri would stayed with Alpine, then McLaren just grabbed Gasly instead. That would be the only change, either way Ric dropped as it has.

Alpine gotta be the biggest clowns in all of this. They lost one of the best drivers of all time who still has it in him as shown at Aston Martin. And they lost one of the biggest talents after paying for his juniors who never drove for them. Just because they decided to be a-holes to both of them. But at least they have a full mediocre french pairing now. What I personally find the most impressive about Piastri is - aside from him handling the pressure - that he isn't binning it like other Rookies (Mick coughcough). Which to me says that he isn't going 100% full send, yet.

What I found impressive was how he was 7 tenths off norris in three of the practice sessions in monaco which is pretty big gap and then suddenly out of nowhere just completely eradicates that deficit and is only 0.02s behind in quali.

You've gotta laugh when alpine now keep saying in hindsight gasly was actually the better option for alpine than piastri. Piastri would be rocking in that alpine if he got the seat their, given they are clearly faster car than mclaren.

And, a much better asset to the team, he could've won a few races but, I doubt he'd be able to challenge for the championship though...although he might have been able to by now, with his great successes and, excellent experience/expertise!😂

@henrywilliams8313
@henrywilliams8313 Год назад
A 1-2 driver dynamic is not useful in a midfield team like mclaren because midfield teams need all the points. Ricciardo very poor performance last year cost mclaren 4th place and 12M extra money

Daniel's a hell of a driver, but the Mclaren-Ricciardo relationship was going nowhere, we can all agree that the Mclaren car was underwhelming, but Lando had the same car and he had some impressive results. Now Piastri on his first season is staying close to Lando, which is massive considering everything. Ricciardo juat wasnt the right driver for Mclaren, and Mclaren wasnt the right team for Daniel. There are no culprits here, thery are equally to blame for it failing.
@mrdraw2087
@mrdraw2087 Год назад
Ricciardo completely forgot how to drive a car in his McLaren years, which perhaps made Norris look better than he was. So far, Norris is still quite a bit better than Piastri. In Miami he finished quite far ahead and in Monaco he had to pass him as well after a needless stop for slicks just before the rain fell. In the wet conditions Norris was flying, though, and Piastri wasn't much slower, which certainly impressed me.

I mean he’s proven he can cheat and use drs in the rain to make an illegal overtake that apparently only I saw, but other than that what has he done that riccardo didn’t, there’s still a papaya car roaming around the back of the grid with an Aussie in it, seems the same old stuff to me, except Danny didn’t cheat so if anything he was the better McLaren driver 🤷‍♂️
@henrywilliams8313
@henrywilliams8313 Год назад
But this time both drivers are struggling which tells you it's the car not the driver. Norris consistently finished inside the top 7 whilst ricciardo outside the top 10 consistently.

@roryevans4295 Год назад
@@henrywilliams8313 yeah the cheating thing still pisses me off, yes lando is struggling too, but you don’t see him making an illegal overtake and somehow getting away with it, it was on the tv feed, and it was replayed several times as the commentators sucked him off for how good the overtake was, how did no one see it, how didn’t the commentators notice, how didn’t the stewards see it, where was the penalty, I don’t get it, if this was max or Lewis cheating there way past someone at the front, we’d never hear the end of it from fans and it’d be an instant 30 second stop and go penalty but because it’s someone nobody cares about and it was for 10th it’s just allowed to slide, these new race dictators are blind, masi was better, shit Charlie whitings dead and he bet he still saw it and is pissed about it too
@roryevans4295
@roryevans4295 Год назад
@@henrywilliams8313 also saying piastri is better at mclaren than riccardo was especially 6 races in is foolish as hell from aldas, riccardo won a race in his first year with the team, piastri hasn’t and definitely won’t, he’s not gonna get a win next year either and that’s not the car, the car riccardo won in wasn’t exactly great
@henrywilliams8313
@henrywilliams8313 Год назад
@@roryevans4295 yeah need abit more data for sure, but so far he's much closer to norris than ricciardo was, could change we don't know yet. The race win was an outlier. Norris scored a massive 78% of 157 points the team scored in 2022. That was damning for ricciardo hence he left.
