Love this. It brings back happy memories doing development wort on electronically controlled brake systems. First with A stock on the East London line and later in the 80’s on the Pic 72 tube stock and then on the 86 Tube Stock Blue and Green prototypes. Made many friends. Does anybody remember a guard called “noisy boisy” ? He had a voice like an RSM. His driver was a very mild mannered gentleman who had route knowledge over the whole system. Great privilege to work with those guys and learn the “secrets of the underworld”. Ron

fond (not fond) of commuting from Leyton to South Kensington. the westbound Central Line platforms are on the left at Leyton, both sides at Stratford, then on the right all stations to Holborn when it's on the left again. So I'd squeeze into the already-crowded door vestibule at Leyton, and just stay put all the way to Holborn, where I'd step backwards out of the crush and join the queue to exit the platform and make my way to the Piccadilly for the second leg. it was pure hell

Thanks for showing us this. I don't think that most passengers understand where trains can turn back and when they can not turn back, so some passengers get frustrated over big sections being out of service for engineering works that might be quite far away from where the trains are running. Obviously the people who built the Piccadilly Line and other deep level tube lines could have put in a lot more places for trains to reverse (like one between every station) but that would just mean there would be more switches and crossings on the network and more potential points failures that could happen. So someone planning the railway has had to decide how many different sections the Piccadilly Line should consist of. And drivers like you have to be able to do all the mini-sections of the Piccadilly Line, as well as the entire route. I know that one of the original acts of Parliament was to route the original railway line that was the east part of the Piccadilly Line down to Strand Station and on to the never built route to Waterloo. Are there many times when trains get routed into the disused platform from Holburn station towards the Strand, for you to reverse there? I remember one time the District Line had engineering works and we actually had a railway replacement service from Wimbledon to East Putney that was not a bus. Instead it was a British Rail train running a shuttle service between Wimbledon Station and East Putney! I've never seen anything like it before or since. I don't remember why I went on the District Line that day, but I do remember that special British Rail take back of that part of the District Line. If you don't actually need to do the full route of a railway line that is getting closed for engineering works, it's actually kind of cool to be able to be able to say you have been a passenger on the special train that did the thing that the trains did not normally do. It is as cool as being on Parliamentary Services. However, I do wish that TfL would advertise engineering works a bit better. I don't mean "give more notice". I mean that they should talk to people about what is actually happening. I once went to West Brompton, when the District Line was shut and looked through the fence at a bunch of engineers ripping up the track and replacing it all. I think they were doing slab track stuff for the Four Lines Modernisation. They really should have set up a time-lapse camera on the overbridge and got people like Geoff Marshall or the Hidden London Hangouts team to visit that construction work.

I am looking forward to trying the new trains. From a drivers point of view they may or may not be better. For the passengers they should be better. Bigger brighter more room and air conditioned

Love your videos. Question: You mentioned that there is a road from the Northern Line to the Piccadilly Line, does that mean you could drive the 73' stock in the Northern Line? Love your videos and hope you do T4 loop soon. 👏👍

In theory yes you could. It would never happen because of how the signals work. However test train operators could do it. They have in the past brought northern one trains over to Northfields as well as jubilee and Victoria line trains. Before COVID most weekends would have a different lines train in Northfields siding

Thanks. I really want to see a train on the wrong line for whatever reason, and I won't stop trying.

Hi Dale, newish subscriber. At one point there was a double green on the right and single green opposite on the left. Don't get that. Also why are most of the signals on the right hand side? PS. really like your vids :)

Thx!! 🙏 So no service KC-Acton. What about Uxbridge/Heathrow? Where did they start/terminate? BTW, incredibly weak headlights. Is it the camera or are they really sufficient? 🤔

Thanks for another great video! As a matter of interest, when relieving the train, don't you perform a running brake/brake sufficiency test when departing?

No a brake test only needs doing if you bring it out of the depot or siding. Or if there is an issue with the brakes. If you are taking over from a driver there is no need

@@dalecharmantravels8057 ah thanks! I thought it was interesting you said that you were driving carefully as you were not sure how the train was going to respond to your braking. Thanks again, I am enjoying your videos!

Dale, what do the signs D and T (sometimes with a cross) signify?

Hello Dale, really enjoying your videos. I have one question: beneath the monitors at the end of the platforms there are blue signs with letters 'A' or 'B', what is their purpose?
