Today Trevor has picked an awesome 1973 Marshall 2040 Artist 2x12 Combo... in custom orange! This amp not only has an incredible look, but the sound is every bit as excellent as you'd expect from such an amp. 50 watts, a pair of 12" Celestion "Greenback" speakers AND a built-in spring reverb. This amp produces a unique Marshall tone, with a cleaner, more chimey sound than other 50 watt models. Not to mention, this specific amp was featured in the book "A History of Marshall The Illustrated Story Of The Sound Of Rock"!

Marshall was trying to copy Fender...then by accident...wholla. 50 and 100W Super Leads. Imagine being the first player to have a full stack and diming it.

I have the 100 watt artisté head with it's original tall cab 2069 Amazing amp , so punchy and crystal clear , takes pedals very well

Really surprising and blown away with the sound of this amp because marshall is well known as one of the Best rock amplifiers loud and noisy but in this case particular model it comes with a great balanced tone and that old valve warm sound perfect for a fender or gibson guitars

I have top class vintage amps in my collection and my 2 favorite amps are Marshall Artiste (I have one from 1975) and Fender Super Reverb (mine is from 1966). Jim Marshall said that Artist(e) model is the worst Marshall ever, because it is "too clean". What a crap. This is one of the best amps ever and you can use any kind of pedal with it, it will sound great! Amazing, amazing amp!

Hi Peja! I have Marshall Artiste 50 w head from 1976 but original reverb tank is missing, could you help me to identify the reverb tank model? I found that Revisit brand has replacement tank for Marshall 2040 (combo version of Artiste) and there was no mention for 2048 (head model)... Thank you very much and stay healthy! Mikko

@@sekametsa Hi, unfortunately, I am not into technical part of amps. I suggest you to do what I did few years ago: send an e-mail to Marshall guys. They responded to me and they were really kind and friendly. Hope this helps, take care!

@@peter3334floyd Hi, I guess the reason why Artiste is so special, different from other Marshall amps is his clean sound. This is why I like it so much, it is just beautiful sounding amp. If I need more drive, I simply use my original Ibanez Tube screamer 808 and it sounds amazing. If this is what makes you happy, if that is the sound you are looking for - get it. Also, it is getting harder and harder to find Artiste amps. One more thing: finally people realize that this is an amazing amp and this is why its value is getting higher and higher. I have one Artiste 100W head from 1974 for sale also. Hope it helps and good luck!

I had a black one for years and sang its praises. No one dug it but me and I couldn't get $1000 for it. WIshing I hadn't sold it now!

Sounds like a $1000 amp without the custom color tolex and picture in the Marshall book. Sounds more like a Traynor than a Marshall. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Nice playing by Trevor!

I have had a 1971 marshall 50 watt artiste top for 45 years now. I loop the bright and normal channel together so I can get a bit of a bassier punchy sound. Jim Marshall always ssid it was the worst amo he ever made, l can't understand this, to me it's great amp.

unusual tone ,lots of attack , quite wiring with that strat. you dont hear much about these or the 'specialist' or 'club and country' models .

I remember when you could pick these up for circa £100 and no one would buy them as they weren’t ‘real’ Marshall’s. And an amp of that age you really DO NOT want the original electrolytic caps in it.

I didn’t live that. Seems amazing to me for, there had to be players that appreciated clean tones, right? On the other hand it kind of makes sense in an era were Zeppelin and co were the rage. BTW What’s the problem with that type of capacitors?

If you're doing a demo ONLY with a guitar with single coil pickups, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG. You must also demo with something Les Paul-ish. Like a Les Paul. You could never sell me an amp based on what it sounds like with a Strat because I hate Strats. I've had four and for me, it's obvious by now that I HATE singlecoil pickups if they're Fender types. P90s have balls, Fender single coils do NOT.
