Our Marshall Artiste 2x12 is quite an amp, partly down to it being loaded with some of our favourite speakers, a pair of 1973 Celestion H 55Hz with Pulsonic cones. Not only is it one of our favourite amps, and speakers but it has a very interesting cabinet design and for once, vintage speakers that work.
If you have followed some of our recent videos we have been gathering vintage speakers together but have recently not had the best of look when doing so, so we thought this would be a good opportunity to give these a blast.
As always if you have experience with these amps and speakers then let us know.

Apologies for 4:52 ! There's a little edit point I missed, so you get a little glimpse behind the curtain! Cheers, Joe.

I have a '73 Artiste that I modded into a JTM50 circuit. It has one 1970 G12H30 55 hz bass - 444 cone, and one 1973 T1886 G12H30 with a 102/030 cone. It sounds fantastic. Great amps to mod into a plexi style circuit.

I have a Heritage G12H 55Hz mixed with a G12-35XC. The G12-35XC is supposed to have "Pulsonic like" cones. They have a very interesting sound. There is something about those speakers that makes me want to keep playing. They provide their own character and break-up. I'd be interested in your demo of the G12-35XC, maybe even a comparison between it and these Pulsonic H 55Hz.

We need to bust out the G12-35XC, we have a few laying around. As I remember they didn't do much for me but I think we should definitely get them in a video for sure. Good call.

No better speakers imo than legit Pulsonic cone Greenbacks. Everytime I hear Pulsonic cones I feel so frustrated that they have yet (maybe never) to be replicated. I've been fortunate to play genuine Pulsonics and it's left me feeling disappointed with everything after. I will say the Scumback H55-PVC comes VERY close, like between a Pulsonic and 70s Kurt Mueller Blackback H55. I've gotten OCD and replicated the Pulsonic shellac dip on the center of the cone (the often off center "discoloration" around the dust cap) and on my Scumback H55-PVC which is supposed to be voiced like the earlier 25w models, added the doping on the back side of the speaker painstakingly by hand... Which made a tremendous step closer to the real deal 25w which have a bit more chime and tighter, snappier character with a tight bottom end... This was after playing a friend of a friend's early basket weave 1982A "100" cab with said rare 25w T1281. He allowed me the privilege to inspect one of the speakers, this is where I thoroughly acknowledged the "shellac" or "lacquer" dip on the very center of the cone. It appeared the center of the cone about 1/2ish inch which I feel confident it was dipped as the coating was on both sides of the cone in the exact same spot. I also inspected and noted that there was doping on both sides of the outter edge of the cone. This is the only speaker I've seen the back side doped like the front. This doping on the back made a fairly dramatic difference on my Scumback H55-PVCs, increasing the chimey character and making the speaker much snappier for a lack of a better word. It also affected the bottom end quite a bit, very tight with little to no boomy-ness. At low volumes the bass sounds a little subdued but once cranked is very tight, punchy and full. Great video, sorry for my ramblings but really wish the Pulsonics could be truly replicated. This was fun to hear you guys play a pair of Pulsonic G12H30s!!

@@ZillaCabs I respect that. Well it is getting harder to find old parts in good state. If you get a kit I would build a chassis for you and you make a cab for it and install Herutage H 55Hz in it.

@@ZillaCabs I am bit of a freak :) I build stuff way I believe the stuff is meant to be build. I build point to point boutique amps and modify guitars and what ever I lay my hands on :) I take time and pride in making stuff way it sounds better and lasts longer. Soldering milspec style. In decades long search for the holly grail of the guitar sound. Well if the tool is not up to the best performing spec I do mod a tool as well :). There are few pictures of my work on the Instagram under dcc_darkos_custom_creations not that I want publicity I do not want to make tons of amps anyways. I build my own amps with my own schematics but I also make clones and sleepers. Like I take an Chinese 100 bucks tube amp and leave the stock appearance or make slightly modded appearance and trow everything but the box and the chassis away. Then I build a point to point amp in it. So if you go to a rehearsal with it no one wants to steal it while it looks like cheap amp but it sounds great as a boutique amp should. So sleeper amp :) Did few Harley Bentons/Epiphones like that for few friends. Build few for my self to. Like small Harley Benton GA5 combo but then with Jensen P8R, 6V6 and Hammond output transformer Blue Sozo caps, CTS pots, choke, Genalex tubes, sitchraft input jack etc.etc. I still love to play it after all this years. Used my schematics for it but it is inspired by tweed 6V6 Fender like amps. For my main amps I buy Marshal small cab boxes clones. Not really satisfied 100% to be honest. Pay little bit to much for it and quality is not @ Zilla Cabs level. They are most of the times OK but you do way better/nicer stuff. I am based in the Amsterdam so it is harder to get your stuff. I know you do custom work to. I was always wondering what would cost me a cabinet like this Marshal Artiste or a Bluesbreaker 2x12 with Heritage H 55Hz? I would send you one of my amp chassis and request a cabinet for it. BTW Chassis a size of a standard small cab chassis. I guess I should better contact you on your web page. Anyways I have never have had a distribution nor I make lot of amps either. Normally I make amps just for friends, family and people who know me, Yeah and sure for me myself. One can't ever have enough of guitars, pedals an amps :) I really do not want to become like Marshall or even Friedman ever and I do not want to be big or to outsource my amps to be build on PCB in China. I build amps for people that love music and enjoy playing as much as I do making amps and playing music myself. Though this Corona sucks. Now I sit on 4 heads that should have been gone by now, but private sales did not went true. I do not like to sell on the Ebay and have people coming by, while I do not have a shop and I do not want them in my home. I've found super nice Gibson Les Paul CS and I would get it but money is tided up in those 4 amps :( I live from my daily work and everything else I do with DCC is a labour of love. Anyways I respect your work and effort in making videos and good products. I do enjoy your videos. If you find/buy parts/kit I would build you a JTM-45 KT66 clone or similar amp for free. Pay the parts and shipping costs and I would build it for you. Like find Mustard caps and proper Marshall Iron and that is it. It might be still possible to find it in the UK. Or some broken old Marshall amp. All you need is a good amp in the chassis and you make your self the cab and add speakers :) satisfied with their service Anywho you people deserve that someone does something nice for you to and it would be my pleasure to build an amp for you people. You carry the torch and I like that :)

Or I build you and amp for free (your parts) and you build me 1x15 for my Fullback and I pay the parts for the cabinet :)

We've cranked this one and it stays really quite clean, I haven't checked to see what preamp valves are in there, I can't remember these amps being so clean so it may be valves.
