Thanks for the video...I'm building 2 courts at home early spring 2022 when the snow melts...Québec Canada. I've bought a Tutor Plus and look forward to hours and hours of practice....
can you control the lobster from your side of the net? if not then you're being pelted with balls as you gather rolling balls on your side, right? :-) too lazy to look it up. :-)
Great to point out the ball rolling under your foot. That is exactly what happened to me; I stepped down on the ball and it knocked me right off my feet with subsequent left wrist break! That makes a believer out of you!
What brand of balls for the Lobster, so they do not melt to the throwing wheels! A friend used Onyx Pure and they coated the throwing rollers and I replaced them! Course those soft balls went away.
I don’t have a ton of direct experience with it but my understanding is that it’s best to go with balls that are somewhat used and NOT new (Dura or Franklin) and clean throwing wheels regularly with duct tape.
I had the majority of these feeds at 30-40mph, with no spin (flat). When I did the overheads and the NVZ line drive, I turned the speed to about 20mph and just adjusted the angle of the feed. There are so many other settings that you could play with, but keeping it the same was the fastest way in getting the most reps in.
You have to play with it a bit to get it right. I turned the angle of the feed almost all the way facing up, and then adjusted the speed from there. Less speed for shorter balls to land into the kitchen, and then more speed to practice overheads at the NVZ. For these 2 different shots I just adjusted the speed.
... On the three-shot combo ... why not just back up and hit a reset while you are backpedaling. Then get back and hit a drop. Then start again. Boom. Five-Shot Combo.
Jordan and PrimeTime Pickleball, thank you so much for this video! Not only it is a good demonstration of what one can do with a pickleball ball machine, but also a good showcase of Lobster capabilities. Have you had any experience with other brands of pickleball ball machines (Spinshot, SportsTuitor, Playmate)? I wonder what your observations were, in terms of ball to ball reproducibility and range of capability of the machine. Additional question, do you find that 2 seconds between balls is enough, or would you rather had a machine which is capable of 1 second?
The lobster and all the ones you mention are solid machines and have very similar capabilities. I don't have a deep dive comparison of each right now but generally, you should be good to go with any. I actually find it helpful if the shots come out slightly different and you have to adjust. Most will come out with some variation and occasionally you get a misfire. One second is not needed.
thanks. but I don't see the difference between the 1st practice of your drive and the 3rd your slice. what's the difference other than 2 seconds or 4 seconds interval? i'm a beginner. thanks.
This video was excellent mainly because Jordan did a great job of explaining and demonstrating (emphasis on demonstrating) what the machine and you can do to get a good workout and practice session. I also appreciated that you guys stopped to give a Warning about stray balls. Nicely done.
Should have added lobs to video, but helpful. I use the LOBSTER machine at our sub BIG HELP in my game. The Lobster helps mussel memory and builds confidence.
15 shots would be considered extremely low. I wouldn't worry about diminishing returns. I'd set a time on it and hit as many is you can during that time. Don't rush but be continuous. 10 minutes on the low side. 30 or above min. on the high side. 15-25 minutes is a good sweet spot.
Hi , I am already to get pickleball machine . specially “lobster pickle”. It’s in my budget and looks work perfect. Do you have any thoughts on it from you ? It looks the machine you are using in the video is lobster pickles and they are in $1000.
Yes this is the lobster. You can purchase it here: ptpgear.com/lobster I really like this machine. It’s very consistent, and can be a GREAT practice tool.
Just got my lobster (used) and 2 second feed interval was WAY to fast too start out. At the very least I needed time to clear the balls I mis-hit so I didn't end up falling on my arse. I was happiest at 8 second interval. Great video!
Love my Lobster. The remote is expensive but worth it if you drill alone - I can change speed, spin, elevation, stop feed. The only thing I can't do is change the feed speed but that isn't something that I do often...
@@primetimepickleball Did you ever get a remote? I've heard conflicting info on the remote being able to pause the machine. That would be my primary reason for getting a remote.
I consider buying this lobster w/ remote control option. what is the additional cost for remote? I feel that it is convenient to have the remote control so that player do not need to go to the other side to reset/change or stop. What do you think?
Thanks for the video. How well do these pickleball machines simulate the dinking game from the NVZ? Would the machine be able to put decent amount of either backspin or topspin on these dinks? I wish these machines would allow for a much shorter interval between balls to practice rapid fire net plays. Seems that the Tutor Plus can get down to 1 second, but still not fast enough. Have you have a chance to try the Simon X?
Jordan what was your speed setting for these drills? Also how much topspin did you use. The balls were very consistent coming out. Also in your experience what balls work best in a ball machine. Thanks Jim
We have not had a chance to do that. Dayne Gingrich is kind of a drill master and he has the tutor plus I believe so I'd bet it's a good machine and overall more capable. I think it's highest model they have. It really comes down to personal preference. Lobster has better wheels and is more easily rolled to court (in my view) while tutor has a more appealing and easy to transport in shape for in the car etc... (in my opinion) All depends what you care about.
It's not so much about skill level but more about your desire and commitment to improve and to use it. As long as you plan on using it at least once a week then it could be a good idea.
Great idea! I’m the meantime.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TjlDRULc0pU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZSDys-0t0nE.html
Hi Jordan, is there a reason why you had the machine set to flat balls? Also, I'm working on topspin, so should I put my machine on this setting? Currently it's at level 1 for some topspin, and it provides more of a challenge, but flat would be easier.
Way to get on that ball machine! Train both, receiving flat and topspin. You are right, handling is topspin is harder so as you get better at receiving topspin, you will easily get better at shots you receive flat as well.
Hey John, we love your videos and watch them regularly. Also, we bought a Spinshot machine and plan to modify some of the drills with the ones that you are sharing here. We noticed that in the fast hands drill, you have the machine on a box. How tall is that box? Thank you
Not sure what that box height was but lately I've been lifting my machine on a table that's 29 inches high and tilting it forwards. That does an amazing job at simulating an attack. Hope that helps!
Great video. I've watched many of your videos. Huge help to everyone. Thank you. Question... Is the lobster your favorite machine? I'm machine shopping and wondering what you think the best machine is for $1200 or less. Any experience with other machines? Opinions?
True, it definitely isn’t for the casual recreational PB player. It’s for the player who is playing tournaments and trying to get better every week ! 😊
