Pub Style Pickled Onions - 😋 If Malt vinegar is too strong for you, use apple cidar vinegar or a mixture of both. The great thing about this recipe is that you can make it to suit your preferred taste. Enjoy friends

Sherry was kind enough to give us a jar of these. They are INCREDIBLE. I've been adding them into Indian Shakshuka, which is basically eggs poached in tomato sauce. I've been then sauteeing sorrel, spinach and kale, and adding that on top, with these pickled EWO. The entire meal is free (from the garden), and is so unbelievably delicious.

Great idea for those little onions. Great for a little side dish. Love onions. Sure they will be so yummy. Outside of the onion bulb is called skin or husk. Always a pleasure to watch and your so organized. 🙂

Hello Sherry. I apologize if this is a dumb question. I have listened multiple times and read the comments, but I am missing the size jar you used. You said 9 jars for your double batch, are those pint jars or half pint jars? I am hoping to give these my best try very soon.
@GardeningintheNorth

Hello! Never a dumb question! I used 1/2 pint jars. And they are all gone now 😭

@@GardeningintheNorthThank you kindly for the swift response! I do appreciate it. So basically…A single batch makes about one quart, or two pints, or four half pints, give or take. I have harvested most of the larger sets. I have about a batch and a half soaking. These take patience, yours turned out so nice I had to go for it. I cannot wait to try them. I hope to get back and let all here know how it went for me. Thank you for this video, your tenacity gave me the courage to just do it, and like others said a recipe for the Egyptian Walking Onions is rare.

@@GardeningintheNorth The spices that you used, do you mix them all together and then split in the jars or put the amounts given in each jar?

@GardeningintheNorth

Hi Kattie! These are a perennial onion that requires next to no attention. As soon as they start growing in April, you can start using their green shoots right into June. Late may you will start to see the little onions growing on the shoots. That is what I used for these. If you wait until they are fully developed, you can actually pull the entire onion out to use the bulb and throw the little onion in the hole for the next season. You will actually see it start to grow shoots, which you can use as well!. I have a detailed video on Egyptian Walking Onions.

What I do: In mid summer, when most of my onions are topped with these clusters of pearl onion sized clusters, I pull everything out. Amend the soil if needed. I pull all the clusters off all the tops. Separate the larger pickling sized ones from the tiny ones and smaller clusters. Scatter those small ones over the garden bed to grow next years onions. Cure the larger bulbs you pulled out just like any onion. Or chop them up to freeze or dehydrate, etc. Chop up the green tops for green onion uses or dehydrate, etc Then process the pearl onion tops as in this video, or dill style, etc. Don't forget to share a handful with friends and neighbors!
